anitasakura What gets me mad too is Aang just assumes Katara has to be with him. His daydream showed us that he expects Katara to be head over heels in love with him. Also Aang is shown to be arrogant during parts of the shows. AANG SACRIFICED NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!That was only the plot for every single season finale

"Aang deserves Katara, he's worked so hard for Katara, he should get to be with her, etc. etc."
Um, pardon me, but what about Katara's side of the relationship? Doesn't she get a choice? It's something I've never, ever liked about shipwars - one character always ends up being nothing more than a prize or 'the love interest', having every other aspect of their character ignored. >.<

Katara never really gets to have a say in her relationships. Except maybe Jet or Haru. She did choose to stalk follow him. But even that aside Aang didn't really work that hard. What he deserves is a dose of maturity and someone to kick clouds of innocence out of his head. I'm all for peace but even peace requires sacrifice

On a similar note, I was so happy to see Zuko holding his own against Azula. It shows how much stronger he's become since the beginning of the show. And, really, the fact that he's had to work at it shows just how strong he is - he knows the value of perseverance.

It looked like he couldn't firebend for his life. I was acctually iffy when he decided to teach Aang because I was like, dude you kind of suck. But then that battle came around and I was blown away. ZUKO WHERE DID THAT COME FROM!!!!It's nice to see simething good prevail even if it isn't Zutara

Aang may have the Deux ex Machina, but personally, I'd prefer my man with the wisdom, perserverance, will and strength that ZUKO gained over the course of the show. Zuko never stops learning or improving himself, and the only time Aang ever tries to learn something new is when he needs to...and then he whines all the way there!!
I don't know, if you ask me, Zuko's not just the more powerful bender, he's the hero of the show.

Teh_Sheba I don't know, if you ask me, Zuko's not just the more powerful bender, he's the hero of the show. Dudette, true facts. True Freaking Metal Bending Facts. He was a procrastinator at first. And then he slowly became a whiner! Which gives the working whiners a bloody bad name! Zuko DID become the hero of Avatar, which I think Mike and Bryan didn't WANT to happen, but it DID. And THAT is what got them mad as people favored Zuko of their little golden bald hero. rolleyes Aang HAD the chance for redemption, HAD being the keyword. He ALMOST made it, but then all the stuff that had potentially made up the path for him to become a GREAT Avatar, was unjustly ripped from that poor kid. I feel sorry for Aang, not just because he had the chance to be one of, if not THE greatest character in AMERICAN, not Japanese, animation; And instead he got back-up prize number 48! He didn't have to wind up with Toph, he could have spent the rest of his days with Meng for all I cared! And speaking of Toph, I'd like to point this out. Okay, yesterday, I was thinking of my favorite video game series, The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time. And the first, quote, FIRST boss monster that Link (the main hero) has to take on, is the parasitic queen bug, Gohma. Her lair, heh, check this. Is in the guardian Tree of the forest, which serves as it's protecter. Does she or does she not have a slight resemblance to Koh? Come on, the single eye, being in a huge lair that's utterly dark and creepy? Oh, and before Link runs into her, he had a prophetic vision of Zelda. Go figure. :/ Except the similarities is taken from something that's still a decade old! =_=*

BUT SERIOUSLY JK JK ABOUT THE *COUGHS*ZUKO*COUGHS* Late response is late. xD Well, technically, Toph should've been broken-hearted about Sokka getting together with Suki. But she wasn't - she's a strong and independent character who, even when disappointed, stands her ground and holds herself together. She didn't get upset with Suki, so I don't think she'd get upset with Katara. Also, I wouldn't really want Aang to decide that he wanted to be with Toph because doing otherwise would break her heart. That's... kind of how I view Katara's side of Kataang, actually - she seems to have an interest in Zuko (from my very, very biased view), but gets together with Aang anyways because she doesn't want to hurt him. It's not the makings for a healthy or long term relationship. Though, I do wish Toph's feelings for Sokka had gotten a bit more attention. I'm not into Tokka or anything, but it annoys me that the minute Suki showed, any sign of Toph crushing on Sokka disappeared. :/

Another reason Kataang wouldn't work is because it theirs would form an unhealthy relationship. It would be a relationship without balance and where one recieves all while the other recieves none. Think about it.
Katara, through out the entire series is always giving to Aang. She give him her time, her attentions, everything to ensure that he is prepared to end the war. But when it comes time for her, she gets nothing. One of the few times she expresses how she truly feels, Aang cries and she has to put herself on hold to comfort him when in actuality she is the one in need of comfort. The two of them never really have a heart to heart and he doesn't take the time to understand her feelings on anything, but she always is the welcoming shoulder for him to cry on and the ear to listen to his worries. What about her?
In the crystal caves when Zuko and Katara spoke, he gave her what no one else in the group did, someone to listen. In that one instant, his relationship with Katara was strengthened far beyond that of the rest of the gaang because the two of them listened to each other. They didn't even need to be talking about each other's mothers, the importance of that scene laid within the fact that Katara's "enemy" out of everyone else listened to her, something that not even Aang had done. Why else would the betrayal hurt her so much, there has to be feelings there in order for them to be hurt they way that they were.
And I know people keep saying that the relationship started in the caves beneath Ba Sing Se, when in actuality it started before hand, all the way in season one it seems. If you really watch the show you can see that the physical attraction is there, how else can you explain the steamy tree moment, because let's face it, that was hot. Zutara hints pop up all the time and their not always sharing a scene together, like staring longingly at Katara's necklace or bringing Zuko's name up in a conversation, or the true respect for Katara that was born within the north pole, respect that had only been given to her by Pakku before hand.
The thing that sealed the deal within the couple and further proves why Kataang doesn't work is because during the southern raiders bit, Aang refused to aknowlege things from Katara's perspective. He wanted her to stay and forgive, something that is humanly impossible for someone in Katara's position to do. Aang had judged her wrong when in fact he had been uncontrolable when Appa had been taken away. He behaved like a hipocrite when he said Katara couldn't go. Zuko however passed no judgement, he understood her pain and allowed for Katara to seek closure. He would have stood by her, regardless of her choice and wouldn't pass judgment but offer understanding.
If a relationship is to work and last, it requires give and take. Katara and Zuko listen to each other, share their pains and strive to prove themselves to one another. There's a level of intimacy and trust between the two that the show even establishes. The two are a team, both physically and mentally. They are as similar to each other as they are opposites. The characters were designed with the other in mind. However, with Aang, Katara has to compensate for his emotional shortcomings. He is a child in all senses of the word and she has taken the role of his mother. The two don't mesh together without thoroughly explained instructions for him. They don't fit.
Anyway, I could go on and on about why the kataang wouldn't work and zutara would. I could even explain why maiko is just as unhealthy as kataang too, but lets face it, it's kind of obvious when you really watch what's going on (even if you're non-biased or a kataanger. I have a friend who is a kataanger that hated to admit that there was more proof for a solid relationship in zutara than in kataang).
I think the only reason Katara chose to be with Aang (for now because I don't see it lasting more that three months tops) was because she felt that he deserved to have her for the peace that he had brought. Not a good reason to date, huh?
