Guinevere sneezed as she put down the tome. It was bigger than her head, and the index ran all the way from Abracadabra to Zeus. The Encyclopaedia Magicka, it said intimidatingly on the front, and running to one thousand pages, intimidating it certainly was. But would it be useful? Guinevere sat in the corner of the library and doubted. None of her spells ever seemed to work, and she had even tried the easy stuff first, like turning her ears blue (Or rather Kotatsu's ears, since Guinevere liked her ears just fine thank you very much.) She didn't know what she was doing wrong. With a sigh, she put down the book and looked at the notes she had been taking. Suddenly she just wasn't in the mood for magic.
Guinevere believed in the strange, mystical, and inexplicable. After all, she herself was a fallen angel who had formerly been raised by a man she now suspected to have been Death. Some people might get notions of superiority from this. She flattered herself to think that, all things considered, her ego was fairly small. Of course, it helped to live in a town where every other person she knew was also a fallen angel in various living circumstances. Guinevere loved magic and myth. But sometimes, Guinevere got tired of the strange. She wandered aimlessly into the novel section, looking at all the titles in their fancy lettering. Fiction. That would be nice.

Shayna was shelving books. Her job at the jewlery store had fallen through shortly after the incedent with the floating pink rock. It didn't metter, she didn't like it anyways and the library was good enough until the fashion designers she had sent resumes out to got back to her. She was bored though, libraries weren't exactly exciting places. She amused herself by reading book titles and imaging the story inside.
She had just put the last book in her pile on the shelf. A plain cover and equally uninteresting title "Hero". She turned to leave the isle and almost ran right into Guin. "Oh hello Guinevere!"

Guinevere looked up at the librarian. Who could know her name? She didn't know many people, just Kemuri, Nikolai, and... "Shayna!" she cried out in surprise, and then clamped her hands firmly over her mouth, remembering she was in a library. In a quieter tone, she whispered "How are you? Why are you here? Do you work here? Have you seen Kemuri lately? I haven't seen you since Hallowen!" She and Kemuri were definitely the most magical looking grown-ups or nearly grown-ups Guinevere knew, and also excellent dancers. "I'm so glad to see you again!" she whispered, hastily putting away the 'Cursed Lovers' book she had lazily picked up.

The red head stiffled a laugh at Guin's actions. "I'm good, working though. Don't grow up, it's too much work." She paused at her last question. It had in fact been quite some time since she had seen Kemuri, she had been very aware of that fact of late and it made her uncomfortable. She was fairly sure she was blushing. Shay tried to supressed the redness as she answered, "I haven't seen him around lately. I guess he's been busy."
She snuck a glance at the clock. Her shift was nearly over. "How about you. Busy working magic?"

Guinevere frowned. "When I work it will be incredibly occult and magical." she said firmly. "Even if it's at a..." She tried to think of a really dull sounding job. "...Gym!" Guinevere was weak as a kitten, physical labour having been dubbed not occult enough to her. Sure, she played outside, but never tried to get fit on purpose. She looked upset at Shayna's next response. "Well, that isn't very obliging of him at all. If I see him I shall tell him he simply must see you again." She didn't miss Shayna blushing. Guinevere was a closet romantic.
She shrugged. "None of it has been working. One set my rug on fire though. Right now I'm trying to find a book on calligraphy to make my handwriting look more magical."

Shayna giggled again, "Gym's are full of magic if you believe what you see on TV." Shay had to agree with Guin though, she wasn't exactly into physical fitness. Thank goodness for high motabolism, if not she would probably be a blimp! Of course librarian wsn't exactly a glamorous job either. It payed the bills though- or it would if she had bills to pay. "This is only my interm job. I have resume's out and an application in at a rather interesting fashion school." She ignored the Kemuri part of the conversation...for now.
"Magical penmenship hmm?" She looked around at the books. "I think you are in the wrong section. Lets go see if we can find something." She started to lead Guin out of the aisle, "If it helps I tended to set things on fire a lot when I was first starting to discover my powers."

Guinevere looked frustrated. "Kotatsu won't get a TV. She says it's too depressing. We have a radio though." She looked surprised. "Oh, but librarians are magical and interesting! They know things." She looked authoritative. "Everyone knows librarians are interesting." Guinevere didn't know much about fashion, unless it was occult. She knew black was stylish. But then again, she thought dribbly candles were too. "I hope you get accepted." she said firmly, not doubting that the older Herald would.
Guinevere looked surprised. "Really? I don't seem to have any sort of powers yet." She bit her lip. "I want some. I want to feel... Different." She didn't know how to explain it, but she tried. "Shayna, I feel like I'm becoming just like Kotatsu, all dull and frumpy and shy and..." She ran out of words. "Kotatsu-ish. I remember back when I was with Aaron, everything was so strange and it hurt sometimes, but it was nice." She looked wistful. "I want to fit in with that world, but every day I feel more and more like I belong in Kotatsu's cottage and less and less there." She blushed embarrassedly at he outburst. "Sorry. Sorry, I didn't mean to go on like that."

Shayna listened to the little Herald sympathetically. "You're just getting older Guin. You should tell Kotatsu how you feel," she paused, "well maybe leave out frumpy. I don't think she would like to be called frumpy and you most definately are not frumpy. You just need to get out more. I'll give you my cell phone number and you can call me anytime." She grinned and stopped in front a row of books.
She scanned the titles and pulled a heavy tomb off the shelf. The cover was black and lettered in gold 'Wonder Magical Words'

Guinevere shook her head. "She'd just get really flustered. She's not good at handling things more emotionally complex than a can opener." Though the herald had grown used to her second guardian, she had come to rely on other ways to express her feelings. But she brightened at Shayna's offer. "Really?!" she said eagerly. "I'd love to have someone to call, I don't have anybody and no one ever calls me. That's okay though, right? It wouldn't be too annoying or anything?" She wanted to get phone calls, Kotatsu got some sometimes and she was green with envy. Surely she would be more interesting to talk to on a telephone than Kotatsu.
Guinevere looked at the book. "Oof!" she said. "That looks heavy..." Absentmindedly, She reached out to try to lift it. "Maybe just a small book on calligraphy would work too... I could settle for something easy to carry." she said doubtfully.
