It's the 40GB PS3, just with double the hdd space.
So that won't have BC, and BC update wasn't said.
Well that sucks.

There's logic behind this, the 40GB PS3 has been a massive driving force for PS3 sales. Not just because it was the only one available, but because it's affordable.
If this doesn't boost PS3 sales, it will at least keep them up.
Lupus, you're being quite dramatic about all of this, I nominate you for the doomsayer award.

What bothers me is that if Kotaku is right http://kotaku.com/5025601/the-new-80gb-ps3-just-the-conjecture-and-maybe-some-facts
Then I'm worried. It would be bad IMO to have this 80GB core be the only PS3 SKU out.
I wish Ken was still around =/

I'm just kind of mad they're completely ignoring an important aspect completely. BC is really important to a lot of people, and when I tell my friends (Not the Anti-Sony ones...the ones that are actually interested in getting a PS3) that the 40GB doesn't have BC they're like "Wtf, seriously? That's gay...screw that then." They're trying to focus on the transition from the PS2 to the PS3, but they're phasing out BC?

i don't know, this is the 5th ps3 in 2 years. i've dealt with customers in stores who have no idea what they want to get because, this one has bc... but that one doesn't... this one has a big hd, but that one doesn't, and for the consumer that doesn't keep completely up-to-date on all the models, it's become very confusing.
imagine a future ps3 customer thinking that the 80gb model had some bc (as the current one does) and then in a couple of months going into a store and buying the 80gb model thinking it's the same console and taking it home only to find out they can't play ffxii. it's just getting ridiculous in my opinion.
i understand that they're trying to play the money game, but at this point i think it would be easier to just have 2 models, one with bc and one without. then sony could give their consumers a simple choice. i personally am glad i got my 60gb model, i hope i never have to switch at the rate they're going.

Just to put more confusion down.
This one and the 40GB model is BC with PlayStation games.
TBH at launch 2 skus are fine, but come after a year you need to ditch one, and just have one. Look at MS for example don't they have like 3 skus out for the 360? And there coming out with another one to replace one of them?
Sony just needs to get their asses moving and get PS2 games to become 100% emulated. There 50% there anyways.
THEN all they have to do is release an update and boom the 40GB models can have it.

as far as i know, i don't believe that any future ps3 consoles will lose psone compatibility, and an emulator would be nice.

Will this 80GB core have all the memory card readers? Unlike the 40GB
