Kedri squirmed a little, finding her weight comfortable, the warmth somewhat less so. He nudged his nose under her chin, puffing a ticklish breath into the soft hairs there. "Melting," he chuckled, then, "Are you saying I've got soft?" His tone was gently teasing, with no genuine offense taken.

He licked the paw covering his mouth, eyes glinting a bit with pleasant mischief. If he had had more energy, he might have nipped gently to spark another tussle, but he was satisfied with their current position. Perhaps when the day cooled they could wrestle again. Perhaps they could hunt together. That thought warmed and pleased him. He imagined slipping through the shadows of dusk with a second, sunset shadow by his side, sharing the excitement of the chase, sharing the meal. "Not going anywhere," he said into the soft fur of the paw over his mouth.

"Melting's for snow, Kedri, and you're a little too green to be snow." She snuggled down tighter against her playmate, tickled and at least pretending an unwillingness to budge in order to see what he would do to unseat her. Waiting showed that he was in no real hurry, his remarks mainly to keep up the conversation and possibly distract her tongue from its duty. "You were always soft, but now you're big enough to lay on. It's fun. Sort of like a big, breathing pile of pine needles." Which was exactly what the smell emanating from him reminded her of, the sappy culprit on his face becoming more obvious by the second.

A surprised blip of noise sounded low in her throat when she felt his tongue again, this time paying a visit to the hardened pads that protected her feet from rough terrain. She shook the affected paw out, offering his nose a light swat of chiding before it settled on his newly cleansed cheek and stayed, the toes flexing in an effort to prickle through the shorter fur. "Good. Because then I'd probably have to chase you and pin you like when we were little and playing. Kounoh can still be the referee if he doesn't have anything better to do." Although, if she thought on it a bit more, she wouldn't have minded it just being the two of them. There was no doubt that she wanted to see her foster parent again sometime, to show him how she'd grown and what skills had stuck, but there was no substitute for the peaceful feeling of their breath slowing to match, their heartbeats losing some of the speed but none of the excitement. Maybe she'd even let him win a round if he kept speaking so sweetly.

Her heavy lids finally dropped, weighed down by the warmth of the discussion and the day. Griever allowed her body to slide off of his as well, worming blindly closer afterward so that she could fit herself against his belly and curl there. She yawned, pink tongue flashing while a low purr started up. "But we're not going anywhere right now. I think this works better - don't you?"

"I suppose so. Not cold enough, either." Kedri squirmed slightly again, but was unwilling to try to toss her off bodily; he had neither the energy nor the inclination for it.

He chuckled low when she swatted his nose, shaking his head just slightly, but didn't object to the paw when it landed on his cheek. He pushed his head gently against the light pressure, unconcerned about the claws in his fur. They were no worse than a light brush with a thornbush, and their owner was far more agreeable than any tangle of plants. "He's gotten crankier in his old age," he replied lightly. "We shall have to referee ourselves." No great burden, that. He had forgotten how nice it was just to be with Griever, this warm and companionable feeling.

He curled affectionately around her as she settled down. "It does," he agreed, yawning in his turn as he caught her gesture. "I like it." He laid his chin on the soft fur of her back, letting his eyes drift slowly shut. Just for a bit; a nap to while away the lethargic heat of the day. When the evening brought cooler winds, they could play or hunt. For now he was content to curl up with his old friend and be still.

"Definitely not," It was probably the easiest agreement they'd come to yet, feasting on dry air and the rich sounds of life appreciating high summer while it lasted. Cold would put a different touch on their throats, would bring quiet peacefulness as nature's verdant court closed up its doors and played the waiting game. Somehow, the thought didn't trouble her as much as it might have once, mainly because she sensed that she wouldn't have to scrounge about for company. Solitude was far away with her nose pillowed on an old accomplice turned new companion.

Griever was grateful to find that he moved when she did, accommodating the need for closeness by wrapping his solid shape around hers. He formed a better raised, downy boundary than a bed of earth, and it would keep the kitsusagi from floundering around in her sleep, making the additional heat seem like a trifling issue. Not even thoughts of a grumpy Kounoh could stir her from this den of shade and wilderness greens. She was happy in a drowsy kind of way, requiring nothing save what had been offered. He would stay with her, play with her, get into mischief and all the bliss it brought along for the ride. How could she imagine wanting anything more than that?

"I'm really glad we found each other again, baby Kedri." She crooned softly to him, trying to move the words down her spine so that he could hear the authenticity to it even while he was sleeping. The next few moments found her own secluded darkness descending, and the female finally surrendered to the quiet dreams of what came next.
