Carrick kept Ace’s arm firmly in his as he approached the clinic, well aware how his husband was going to react when he realized exactly where they were and why they were there. After all, the last time something of this nature had occurred, well...let’s just say things hadn’t gone as well as he had hoped. But he had great hopes for this time. This was something that Carrick wanted more than anything. He had even gone to the trouble to find a babysitter for little Zachriel, so that he and Ace could come and not have to worry about a three-year-old getting into...everything.

He had to let go of Ace to open the clinic door, as the pair of them together were just a bit too in the way for him to comfortably open it...and he looked somewhat anxiously at Ace, hoping he wouldn’t just walk away. Carrick had called to arrange things, but he hadn’t quite...talked to Ace about the entire situation yet. He was hoping everything would be all right nonetheless.

After all, he and Ace had chatted about having more kids. Idle chat, granted...but Ace’s reaction hadn’t been unfavourable. And so Carrick had great hope. Which was why he had brought Ace along for the preliminary meeting. He had learned his lesson the last time, and Ace was going to be involved in the process, even if he technically wasn’t going to be much involved in the decision making at all...

Striding as boldly as he could (Carrick was unfortunately possessed of a naturally sheepish disposition and couldn’t be ‘forceful’ if he tried) to the front desk and praying that Ace had followed him in, he took a quick breath to compose himself and smiled.

“Adrian and Carrick Sinclaire. We’re scheduled for, um...a preliminary meeting?”

Ace had no idea what the hell was going on. This made him unhappy. Very, very unhappy. Carrick hadn't even given him so much as to a clue as to what might happen. Nothing. It wasn't anybody's birthday. Or anniversary. (Someone would have reminded him if an important date was coming up.) It didn't have anything to do with Zachriel; they'd left him with his aunt, Yuki.

"Where the hell are we?" he demanded, pulling a cigarette and a lighter from his pocket. He lighted up and blew a puff, dogging after Carrick as the young man entered the strange building. "Seriously, what the hell," he muttered, cross. This was ******** stupid. He folded his arms and stood behind his mate like a dark cloud, glaring at the person behind the desk as though maybe this time.

"Carrick," he growled. "For the last time. What. The hell. Is going on.

Selma barely took the time looked up at the couple and lifted a finger to point at the chairs on the other side of the room and returned to her magazine. She was hardly interested.

Whether by coincidence or dumb luck, Violet wandered into the lobby. "Oh," she exclaimed, as though she had just realized where she was. She looked back and forth between the couple and Selma. "Are you here for an appointment?" she asked, finally settling on the two men.

Ace snarled at the girl, about to barn something nasty when someone else wandered into the lobby, asking about an appointment. "Yes, we're here for the goddamn appointment!" he shouted, throwing his arms up in a disgusted surrender. "NOW WILL SOMEBODY PLEAS E TELL ME WHAT THE ******** IS GOING ON. OR I WILL KILL SOMEONE. I swear it." And with that, the redhead hissed, practically bristling as he glowered around the room.

Violet yelped, drawing her arms to her mouth. She looked at the man who had shouted, then to his companion. "I'm sorry," she mumbled. "Is there something wrong?"

Carrick put a hand on Ace's shoulder, instinctively stepping between him and Violet and turning to look at Ace. "Ace, honey...before you blow a fuse...just hang on a second," he murmured. "Just...come with me and we'll talk, okay?" He glanced at Violet and gave her a sheepish smile. "Excuse us just a moment, won't you?" he asked quietly, taking Ace's arm and leading him to a corner of the waiting room where he could talk to (and hopefully pacify) Ace with a modicum of privacy.

Putting both his hands on Ace's shoulders, he looked him in the eye, gave him a slight smile, and then let his expression fade. He took a deep breath and broke eye contact before he started. "Before you freak out at me, bear in mind that this is only a preliminary meeting, not the actual appointment itself," he began. Then he looked back at Ace.

"Remember how we talked a while ago about having more kids?" he asked. "Well...I was just kinda looking around one day and I came across an add for a place that does fertility treatments and makes it so...really anyone...can have kids. Twins. And I was interested. So I set up a meeting." He took another deep breath. "And that's why we're here."

He braced himself for the explosion.
