I plan on enlisting next year when I turn 18. I'm trying to get into shape right now, but I admit I'm having trouble getting motivated. sweatdrop
THING IS I have to lie on my paperwork because I was diagnosed with asthma with I was little. I haven't had any problems with it since I was 7, but with asthma, you never out grow it. What happens if they discover it while I'm in basic?
I already know that if I'm rediagnosed AFTER I'm a Marine, then I'm safe, I don't get discharged.

From what I've heard, if you haven't had any symptoms for 12 years or something, then you're off the hook. So I've heard, not sure if it's true its something you'd have to ask a recruiter. Now, unlike a criminal record, there's no huge medical database that holds all of your medical information. As it happens, I had a similar problem, and the military doesn't know about it. But you should talk to your recruiter first. They can always get you a waiver.

My recruiter said that if I haven't had any problems with it since I was 12, then I'm cool.

First of all recruiters will tell you anything to get you into boot camp, it's there job, so if they tell you it's no "biggie" it very well could be but they only care about there quota.
It's a judgment call on your part, and no one else's.
I was in the exact same situation. I had asthma as a kid, it went away I was fine, except for a mild case of bronchitis I got while in basic.
Just make sure you can handle, and don't take a recruiters word for it.

You posted this awhile ago, but I can give you the lowdown.
I'm in the Army and my husband is a Marine, and I have asthma. Here's how the asthma thing works:
first off, I don't know anyone in the service who legitimately didn't lie about SOMETHING at MEPs. People can try and say that in this guild but I never believe them, because you'd have to be some sort of super-soldier to fit every single one of their health qualifications, and quite frankly not enough Americans fit those qualifications to have a standing military.
If you haven't had any symptoms since about age 12 or 13, which is what your recruiter said, you can get a waiver. Careful with waivers though, when they make cuts (like they've been doing lately) you'll be the first one denied. Also, if you have a waiver you're going to be in processing for a lot longer.
Honestly, what I did, and everyone else that I've known did, is they just didn't say anything. And they'll try to scare you. Over and over and over and over they will have "moments of truth" and they will tell you "if you come up to us right now and tell us there won't be any repercussions" bull s**t there won't. ESPECIALLY in the Marine Corps. I know a kid who cracked and he told them "I may have been around some people who were smoking weed" got his MOS taken away from him, now he's got a desk job, when in reality he probably smoked the s**t once in his life, which affects nothing.
I dunno, I figure Uncle Sam lies to me about enough stuff it's only fair that I lie to him on occasion.
