It was trembling again. My gut. With that vague, unsettled, panicky feeling I always get before I do something stupid.
I was doing it! I was standing on the roof! And then I wasn't.
Looking back, I wish I could have told you I immediately passed out. It would have been much more romantic. But I can't. Here are the facts:
I'm a very clumsy person.
When Daniel asked me to bring him some lemonade, "Jesus Marie, it's hot out here", I tried to remind him of that.
I went anyway.
And then... I fell.
So I lay there, gasping. I'm sure I would have been flopping around like some sort of demented salmon, had I been able to move.
But I wasn't.
And that, my friends, is how it all started.
