Depends. Depends on the type of weapon and the situation. But right now, I'd think swords because they don't run out of ammo. And reload time is a hazard against zombies and hordes.
Ideally, I'd want the Tsubaki Mk. 3 from No More Heroes as a sword since it's a beam katana that can deflect bullets.

NobodyManNeo i have to say gun simply because thile your running at me with your sword i pull out my gun and shoot you down from a click away wat if ur gun jams or kills you instead, u never know, it may be jinxed. lol

i cheat...a sword with the back of the blade having a gun barrel and then having a loading and firing mechanism back by the hilt... more popularly referred to as a Gunblade... i have a design for one but not the resources

though I voted swords, the perfect combination is found with renaissance era guns. At that point you can use both at the same time. Because the guns took forever to reload, you could dodge one bullet and have enough time to rush in for a sword slash... (make sure you actually dodge the bullet...), but at the same time, if you have no strength of finesse with a sword, carry a few guns, its just point and shoot! (honestly, if you can't reload, be ready to run)

Guns are a coward's weapon. With swords, you have to get up close, and you can feel the strength of the other person.
