So, yesterday at band practice we figured out there's a leak in my instrument, which is causing me to squeak a lot. I play saxophone, and it's one of the side keys that you play with your left hand for really high notes. We have a temporary fix for it (a hair tie and a rubber band xd ), but mini-camp starts next week, with three 12 hour days. Obviously, I need to get it fixed by then.
My mom and I were going to take my saxophone to Music & Arts today, but I have some questions. Do they fix it right then, or do I have to come back in a couple days? It's a small problem, only one leak, so it shouldn't take too long, right?
Thanks!

lol. As a former Music and Arts band shop employee, I'm telling you it's going to take quite some time to get your sax back. First, it may seem like it's only one key but it's probably others as well - they tend to wear pretty evenly. Second, if it's necessary to take the key off the horn (if it's bent, for example), that requires taking all the keys that overlap it off. Third, this is an awful time of year for Music and Arts because the shops are in refurbishment mode - churning out rentals. It means the repairers are working 50-60 hours a week, horn after horn after horn. On top of that, a lot of people send their instruments in for repair over the summer and they all have to join a queue. Finally, most Music and Arts stores do not have a local repair shop. They ship the instruments to a warehouse hub which is where the repair shops are located, then they get repaired and shopped back. Expect at least a week. Better ask for a loaner in case you don't get it back in time for your first day of camp. Sorry, dude.

Thanks! They told me that they should have it back by Sunday, and camp is on Tuesday. It means that I won't have time to practice the music that much, but it's okay, because I know the music. All I have to practice is marching, which I have to to downhill, in my backyard...that'll be fun. xd
Thanks, though. 3nodding

Sunday doesnt always mean Sunday. Last year at a football game, the bleachers were wet and i slipped and dropped my seven hundred dollar clarinet through the bleachers. I broke some of my keys in half and my mouth piece was destroyed.... When i took it to Sam Ash, they said it'll be ready by wednesday. Cause all they had to do was just find new keys to replace the old one. I ended up not getting my clarinet back till the monday after the wednesday it was supposed to be back. I couldnt march in the competition that we had on saturday because our school did have any clarinet rentals. My directors sent all school intruments out to be refurbished and all that.

Okeydokey. I'm relatively sure that there are other saxophones that I can borrow from the school. I just hope my sax will be ready by then, I don't like playing other saxophones...it feels funky.

I tried a King and it felt odd(The brace) and same with the Bach.. the school's instruments are eww.. xD

I once slipped on my front stairs outside my house with my sax in a gig bag (wasn't my smartest purchase). I went to go play it at the church we were playing at for Jazz band, and it wouldn't play G and a couple other notes. We took it in to Groth, and it took a MONTH to repair. I was really pissed because the keys were all weird on the loaner they had to get for me. I hate having to get my instrument fixed. And the tenor my BD gave me for the summer didn't have the 2 biggest pads, so I had to trade with a friend.
That was a rant... sorry! whee
