I practice alone all day and there are some songs that I mess up on. Even after I practice a lot I make the same mistakes I did when I started practicing. When I mess up and what I mess up on is totally random. I once practiced on the intro to a song for 3 hours and I made the same 5 mistakes constantly. That's okay when I start playing it but when I give the easy part of a song all my energy and attention for 3 hours I want to be able to play it right. Hell. I want to be able to play it with my tongue after all that.
Has this ever happened to you guys? I should probably note that I've only been playing for half a year so maybe this is just a beginner's problem.

I know exactly what you mean! I hate that too..I've been playing for 3 years, so it's not just a beginner's problem. xD I think it happens to everybody..like with me, I can play a song nearly perfect and then play it again later that day and mess up like 10 times. lol So don't feel bad

Play it without the music and play it slow. Speed it up a little. Then speed it up again. Don't change the tempo until you make no mistake, or you make one.
And don't practice it too long. Stop playing it for a little bit. And then start again.

And don't practice it too long. Stop playing it for a little bit. And then start again. I never play with music. I listen to songs and air guitar correctly though. I have thought of just slowing down. I just feel pressured to nail it right away because my guitar attracts girls like nothing else will.

well I mean thats what "learning a song" is all about. If you can actually pin point mistakes, stop playing like you know the song by heart and pay attention. (not to sound grouchy or anything)
See thats something I would do in the way you decided to post that up here, mainly due to the fact that at the time you post it, you feel you suck at guitar but if somebody says they can relate you kinda feel better about yourself, but by the time somebody responds you are already over it.

it's hardest when learning a song by ear. I was trying to get Good Riddance down for my sisters wedding, and I got really frustrated because I knew the finger picking part at the beginning but was confused as to how he they were strumming a chord and figure picking at the same time until I figured out it was two part guitar.

Hit the nail on the head. That only happens to me when I think I know how the song goes. After a few mess ups I come to reality and listen to the song (or part) as if it were the first time. Forget what you thought you knew about the song because its obviously wrong. That happened to me when I was learning Tornado of Souls by Megadeth. I kept adding notes and elongating others. Finally I said "ok I'll listen to it as if it was brand new to me." sure enough I found where I was going wrong.
