At my first con last fall, I purchased only two pieces of art from the AA. One of the artists gave me the purchase in a shiny plastic cover. One of the artists signed the artwork right before giving it to me.
Questions: Do you/ would you sell the art with the plastic cover? Or does it cost a little more than it is worth? Do you sign the art all at once (as in, it just gets printed on there)? Or do you personally sign all of them? Or do you have a signature already printed on all of them, but you sign the ones you sell personally? Or... Yeah, just discuss. ^_^

Oh! And while I'm thinking about it;
Do you sign with your name, a phrase, or a marking?

I don't do prints, so I can't really speak for that... I do sell commissions, which I hand over in a clear plastic cover to protect them, and which I do sign somewhere (with my messy-a** scribble signature) on the front of the piece (as well as putting name, website, etc on the back). I also sign my books on request.
For commissions, I sign with my name. Or at least, what I call my name. Same way I sign my credit card slips and checks. wink It used to be my name, but it's kind of deteriorated into a scribble.
For the books, I'll usually add something like "Thanks for reading" or whatever comes to mind, unless there's something in particular for that person (I know them, or a conversation before they bought it, or something). Typically I only do that in the first book, though, and just sign the others.

Commissions I always sign. Prints its up to the person buying, but its generally good to ask. I don't sell books, but I think its a nice touch if you do a quickie doodle with your name.
I think its professional to offer plastic covers to buyers, to help them protect the work until it gets home. It also makes it easy to slip in a business card for them! If the plastic is that much more, factor it into your art prices. Most people would rather have protection for their art than not.

Plastic bags are actually very cheap, especially if you need a bunch of them or can do a group order with someone. Clear Bags <- Site my roommate orders from; I'll be getting both clear covers for my art and plastic shopping bags from them, to make it easier to carry things around the Alley. smile

Thanks for the link, Vicemage! My sis and I have been wanting bags available, and that looks like a great place to get them from. Sure beats the Ziploc bags we had on hand in case anyone asked for one. ^_^;;
As for the questions, I think the plastic covers are nice, and I think they would be worth it. And I'm the type who would sign pictures individually, though I usually just put my initials - it's become my "mark", I suppose.
