I'm generally a lurker in this guild. I read the threads and posts to see which items to hoard and whatnot. I'm pretty small time small fry right now, but I'd like to get a little more serious. My ultimate gold is to own every purple item on Gaia, which is why I started looking for a more decent way to earn gold. Anywho, let me see...
I have two letters: October '07 and September '07. I'm thinking of saving the October until around Halloween to sell, but I might go ahead and sell the September to get a bit of gold so I can actually make some investments into hoarding items.
I wanted to kick myself when I saw the price of the easter bunny ears, I didn't keep mine because they looked "lame".
I have a crap load of seasonal Jack stuff to sell around Halloween. I have less Christmas stuff, but that too is best to sell around Christmas.
I guess I'm asking what to hoard. I was thinking about hoarding the new house bunny ears, but I'll give that a few days to drop in price.
What about the clock eggs? I'm thinking of maybe getting around 100 of those, maybe a stock of sakura cloaks.
I'm looking to buy some quest items and getting a decent number of them.
I still don't feel oo comfortable watching the marketplace and trying to buy low and sell high for quick profit. I'm a patient person, and I'm looking for some safe investments.
I guess I'm just looking for a little guidance into a medium to long term investment.
Thanks, Bee

ROAR!
Good job so far. After the olympics, or right now, I'd get both olympic shirts and save them for another 4 years.
Try for all the '04-'06 event items, Diversify. Buy a bunch each of a few '07 + event items really cheap. Be ready to save Them for a few years.
You never know what's going to be hot in the next few years so stock up all the cheap event items you can. They might be considered trash right now but later...? Save all of your holiday event items.
Holiday events are coming soon so buy them cheap now. Depending on how they do it you should start selling them when the price peaks around when they start putting up holiday pics on gaia.
KNOW YOUR PRICES! Know your HIghs and lows! ROAR!

There are no sure things - that's why they call it speculation. So anything said here could turn out to be dead wrong, but free advice is worth about what you paid for it smile .
Having said that, one of the things I'd look for is when you're bouncing around in the forums, see if people are wearing the items in question. It's a little harder to do with the seasonal items, since they only seem to be worn in season. This will give you an idea of how popular the item is now - which is at least some clue as to how popular it will be in the future.
When I look for event items to put away, one of the things I think about is if this is an inherently nifty item or not. Because long term, that's what will be driving the demand, long after the event is over.
Sorry, but I don't like the Clock Eggs as an investment. It was a huge disappointment to start with, turned into nothing special, had no more evolutions other than an explosion, and seems to be used only by folks going for that "total fireball" avatar look. Yes, I have some, but I don't expect much out of them.
I agree with the advice to diversify. The wider the variety of stock you have, the more likely at least one of them will have risen to where you want to sell when you want to take the gold out of it.

Thank you both for the advice.
Unfortunately I can't see any items unless they are worn on an avatar. I see lots and lots of little red X's.
Right now I'm investing in the house bunny ears because they seem quite popular, they're decent looking, and I'm willing to sit on them a while to let them grow in price.
I sold all my inks I had saved up from doing the daily chance every day. I made over 20k just with those. All except my purple ink, which I like to hoard.
I have a small hoard of the clock eggs just because they were so cheap. About 50.
And then I plan to work on building up some of my small hoards of event items.
Also, how are people getting the olympic t-shirts anyways?

I believe the olympic shirts that are out now are from the '04 olympic event.
They should have new items for the upcoming event.

wingedcentaur Unfortunately I can't see any items unless they are worn on an avatar. I see lots and lots of little red X's. That's exactly what I meant - when you're reading threads in the forums or the guilds or wandering around towns or in the MP, if you're thinking about investing in some item long term, look at all the other avatars and see how many people, if any, are wearing the item. This is a pretty good test to see how popular an item is, which is about the best estimate you'll get of how popular it'll be in the future. Most of the giveaway items are either sold cheap or put away - in any case, people don't like them enough to put them on their avatars. And it's that popularity that is the sole determination of how much they'll be selling for in the future. Because if no one wants an item, it doesn't matter how rare it is, people won't be buying it for a lot of gold.

Just keep raising your capital, you're doing fine.
I'm not sure if this is aloud (advertising another vending guild.)
But if you check out Teh Hoarding Guild and see the Hoarding forecasts, they tend to help people a lot.

For a safe hoard to keep just for a few months, I'd say the Jack Headphones. They're only 1k, and in a few months, on Halloween, they'll most likely jump in price. And Kitty Slippers. It will most definitely be popular. It used to be 3k when the link came out, and then when the link was no longer able to be used, it jumped to 5k, meaning that people really do like the item. A very good long term investment.

Actually I would be hoarding Dec 07's
Because although they don't show much promise you ave to remember that they're ice themed. And it's summer and right now they're REALLY LOW. At 15k.
If you stock up on them come November it will pay off, but don't go crazy, you don't want to set off an unnatural balance just pick em off as they come low.
Currently I have a nice little stash of 26 Letters. I'm probably gonna have 30 some letters by the end of July.

I found a cow bell in my storage box, but it brought up weird results in the MP. What is it really worth?

Looks like someone's screwing with the cow bells right now. Says the average buy price is 1063 gold as of this posting, low price in the MP is 1600. The rest looks like someone screwing around.

I invested in a Gro-Gain for 27k. I'm hoping it will be evolving hair and that I will be able to make a big profit off of it.

I really don't like buying high pricey stuff unless I REALLY want it. I was thinking about buying a 5000 gold item and saving it for a couple years just to see what would happen in terms of me losing or gaining gold in the long run...I tend to be bad at choosing items... this is were I'd need help...
(This has nothing to do with The advice but it is interesting...I think...)
I'm helping a friend post her idea of Gaia creating a halloween quest item for next year in the admins journals and sending them PM's... So far there's no news... I mean, Vampires made their debute October of this year, why not Werewolves, the item be a quest item but end up being an evolving item?
The longer you had the item in your inventory or on your character, it would evolve making your character more wolfish and cool. Just for Halloween. I think it's a good idea and I'm all for it...

I was so disguasted with the evolution of the Gro-Gain. Facial hair? Are they serious?
I picked up two more of them before the evolution for about 20k each, and I hope it wasn't a waste.
