Rightyo, so I was checking on

bleedman's comics
, just because I'm bored. I also checked out the other guy's diary so I got a link to an article about Nintendo's new controller. Low and behold, what got me interested other than the picture of Sonic in the right hand corner.

Okay, the boring stuff is over.

Okay, the game is going to be named Sonic the Hedgehog, in honor of the 15th anniversary for Sonic. This ofcourse means, the game isn't coming out until next year. Oh, and this also makes the Revolution useless in my opinion. The game is coming out for the 360 and PS3. Anyways, if you don't want to take a look at the pictures, they're pretty realistic looking, and sonic looks AMAZING, especially with the lighting. His hedges even fly up alittle when you're jumping down! No, that doesn't mean sonic looks like a hedgehog from real life. Why would you even want that to happen? confused
Anyways, Sonic ofcourse has his old moves, and a few new ones. They've used a realistic engine on the game, such as actually giving objects weight. The enemies now have ragdoll physics, and those physics can be used to interact with some of the environment.
Can't forget about that lighting. It's actually going to change in this game. Change just as sonic's design has, once again. Actually, it seems he's reverting back to his basic design. You know, the genesis design, only taller and more slender since the package art alsways seemed to make him fat. He also had actions if you leave him standing there, like in SA2/:B. They've also considered making Sonic's fur actually look furry, and his shoes rubbery, but so far that's not the look.
Ofcourse, the game was revealed very early, so this probably won't be seen in the final version. Remember to keep checking in on it though.

I also just downloaded the movies, and Sonic seems a LOT slower that any previous games. His speed increase increments seem to be alot smaller. I would guess his max speed is about a quarter of what we're used to? That's just from one level though.

Edit: Watched yet another video. Found this one on gamespot. The rings are shown as pretty much vertical halos of pure light. They're always glowing, but not glowing outside of the ring. You know what I mean? Also, it seems if they don't have Sonic's speed worked out on ground, they sure as heck have it worked out for grinding, since his grinding speed is about 1.5x speed in Sonic Adventure.

I don't know, right now I'm looking forward to Sonic Rush and Sonic Riders. And I'm not looking forward to a Sonic game that isn't comming out on a Nintendo system.

Yes, since it looks pretty cool, and is customizable.

People these days always seem to put down innovative things before they're actually released... Though the controller looks like one you'd have for a TV, you'd have to actually use it to confirm if it's bad or not. I can still remember the jist of what people said about the DS before it came out not too long ago.

... Although I will have to admit, with the analogue stick attatched to it, it looks like an adult toy... ninja It brings new meaning to the word "Joystick".

Generally, I find that this is a good review of the controller itself. I can just imagine people waving it in front of the screen to get things to do other things... similar to the actions people do with their regular controllers now, really.

...As for the new Sonic game, after downloading one of the videos, the graphics are simply awesome, and the way enemy robots seem to fly back before exploding is a very nice touch, and an innovative new way to get past various obstacles... Though it seems that you'd have to position your attack just right in order to destroy said obstacles with said robots.

I like the new controller from Nintendo, I just can't see myself playing Sonic with it.

The Revolution has controler ports for gamecube and wavebird controllers, since it's backwards compatable with the Gamecube. I've also seen some add-ons where you can plug in N64 and NES controler attachments.

If you want to play NES games, you just flip the revolution controller 90 degrees. smile

When I play a Sonic game, I expect speed. I want to be able to run past and through any obstacle with insane velocity, and to see the world around me blur (sort of like what happens in San Andreas when you get up to a certain speed in a vehicle) It's still early in development so I'm sure they'll get sonic's speed more up to what we're used to. But so far it looks nice, though I really have no intention of getting any of the new generation consoles as of yet.
