Since I know a number of people here like to get into costume on occasion, I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to talk sewing in its various forms. From picture analysis to fabric selection to pushing it through the machine to finishing techniques, let this be the place to natter on about needles and pins.
I've always got a number of projects going at any given time. Right now it's garb, garb, garb. Sitting on the back burner I also have a replication project going for one of Marian's dresses from the BBC's most recent Robin Hood and my steampunk outfit to get cracking on.
So much to sew, so little time!
Berz.

Gee Berz, I'm not gonna be posting here cuz I don't know how to do that, I am not very interested in learning, and I don't really like to put on costumes (unless someone pays me to do so, he-he). Sorry!

Well, I'm no expert at sewing (actually, i suck really bad xD) but I do like it. =) Of course the most complicated thing I've ever really done is a Pakistani doll sized outfit for Art class.

I used to suck, too. Don't let a little, meaningless thing like that turn you off from it. ^_~
As with anything, it takes practice.
Did you sew with a machine, or by hand?

Ah, sewing... one of the crafts that I'm surprised how little I've explored it, especially seeing as I adore needle crafts of all sorts. I think I was spoilt with a mother who is an excellent seamstress to really get cracking on it.
But, on a slightly related note, the other week I finished an absolutely gorgeous crocheted corset inspired belt. It's prettiful.

About a year ago, I somehow, by the grace of God, managed to create 12 costumes in under 3 months. I thought I'd post some pictures for inspiration! My two most successful costumes: The Brothers Goofball Renaissance Lovers (their love in no way diminished by my first most awesomely sewn bodice with steel boning!) I'm getting the itch to sew again, I'm just not sure what! I really want to do something for Jereth's Masquerade next summer because I really want to go. Maybe I could go as a dark unicorn and my hubby could go as a dragon. Ooooh...that looks so cool in my head!

Fire_Phieonix *winces at sound of the word sewing* thank goodness for sewing machines!! hypno- you do know there are other things to sew than costumes, don't you? lol! I guess so but, I have absolutely no fashion sense! If someone cares to give me lessons then I'll be glad to accept. But it'd have to be something like IRL, I have no intention of reading lots and lots of text just for that. talk2hand Hey Scarlet! Those are some cool costumes. Congrats!

Thanks! There are more pictures of more costumes on my deviant art account.
I want to make a pair of costumes for the Labyrinth Ball, but I'm not sure what to do yet. I was thinking my hubby and I could go as a matched pair of something, like a dragon and unicorn. I'm working on concept sketches now.
