This movie is so damn bad it deserves a guild of its own. How many here are dedicated to what is quite possibly the worst movie ever made? The film has gained many fans, so to speak, thanks to MST3k. That's why I am making "One Man's Trash" a film about the making of Manos (shameless plug... if must talk about it, PM me. I have been talking with castmembers Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy, who seem interested. Not set in stone they will make their appearances, but seems likely. I have been in talks with others... but it all depends on how much money I can get investors to pay)

Come on, we NEED a Manos discussion thread. Can you think of a worse movie?

Anyone else have "Master" costume?

Update on the Manos Project:

My film has been titled Making "Manos": Hal Warren's Guide to Filmmaking

Filming starts once it I have a cast, regardless of the budget... I can get it as I go along. I'll have to if I ever want to start it.

It's being shot on DV. Nowadays, DV is just as good as film. 9 out of 10 people can't tell the difference. That way I have more money for the movie.

I have contacted Jackey Neyman Jones (Debbie) and she has helped me somewhat getting the characters right.

I have called up Bernard "Bernie" Rosenblum. This is the real kicker.

Bernie is giving me a copy of the film, a copy of the documentary "Hotel Torgo" and a copy of the original shooting script. He has also said that if we film in El Paso, we can use the original sets for free and crash at his studio. So I'm tempted to do that.

If anyone lives in the Chicagoland Area and is interested in being part of this film, PM me. It's something special, alright.

I have the treatment, and am now writing the script.

No garauntees for cameos. Yet. No characters are cast, but the crew is ready.

Sorry for the shameless plug. But it is MST3k related.

Sounds interesting. Keep us up-to-date, ya? biggrin

And I can't rememeber off the top of my head, but didn't the actor who played Torgo die? question Because I thought I heard something about it, but I can't remember for the life of me...

On IMDB.com there is a review from someone who said they liked "Manos" and that MST3K ruined it. They said they thought it was scary because of the way it was made. I laughed! lol

Try House of 1000 Corpses or Blair Witch. I would love to see MST3K get their hands on them! (of course, props to Blair Witch for their originality, but still...)

Yes he did.

He commited suicide.

Rumor says it was because of the film, and as a Manos scholar, I find the rumor to be sick. He had problems with his father, problems with drugs, he snapped one night.

In my screenplay, he gets off the phone, knocks over a bookshelf, throws some stuff... Basically, I saw punch drunk love and was disgusted by the people who always laugh at outbursts when they are not funny. This is sort of a turnaround, because the next scene they announced he shot himself.

As somebody who has gotten so involved with the legacy of this film, I have to say I have a great amount of sympathy for the Reynolds family, and everyone involved. That is why I have decided not to show his suicide, or any of the conflicts with his father (so I have them over the phone). However, I do show them. I know how harsh, military people can be. And his father was an air force colonel always putting pressure on him. So I understand, and will not make his father to be a villian.

I'm actually quite fond of both films.

As an indy filmmaker, I think Blair Witch is a one of a kind creepy film. Maybe not scary as hell, but good nonetheless. It's a one of a kind feat that can never be done again.

House of 1,000 corpses, on the other hand, is nothing more then an ode to all the old horror films and the Genre as a whole. Rob Zombie proved his ability to direct. Sometimes, the screenplay was a bit lacking but overall, it was enjoyable.

Neither film is a classic, by any means.

Of course, this leads into why I love Manos so much I am making this glorious tribute: They had bad equipment. They had two good actors who had their performances destroyed because the director (who was an idiot, and a nutcase, who didn't like hearing bad things about the movie) wouldn't pay for sound. The director of Photography openly rebeled against the director with his friend Bernie Rosenblum, and overall production was hell.

And the film got made. A film made on an whim got made, released, and gained a large "fanbase" for lack of a better word.
