Nariko736 Orizion Just to let y'all know, Mormons are liars. Mormonism is a cult. Just like Jehovah's witnesses. Pentecostal is based on the Pentecost, which was a few weeks (not sure of exact time, sorry) after Jesus ascended to heaven (after He rose from the dead), and in turn poured out the Holy Spirit to whoever believed in Him, thus giving the ability for Christ Himself to live in all believers simultaneously!!!!!1!1!!!one!!1 Mormons and Jehovah's witnesses are not liars. They are just people who have been led in the wrong direction. You know, I could say that of all Christians. So no bashing the denominations in this thread ok?

Agreed, let's not bash other's denomination. On another note, there is a difference between a denomination and a separate religion. Denominations are separated by difference in minor doctrine. In other words, each denomination answers these questions differently "what is baptism?", "what is communion?" and "what is the rapture?" a Religions are separated by differences in core theology. again, each religion answers these questions (giving a full answer rather then a quick "God is God" answer) like "who is God?" and "who is Jesus?" With that in mind, I'd agree with Orizion, Mormons are liars because they say they are Christians, but they do not believe the same core theology that Christians (all denominations) believe. But enough of that, if anyone wants to discuss Mormons and other cults, discuss it in another thread.

Yeah, consider this a warning.
"Mormons are liars"
That's a ridiculous statement, do you realize that?
I lived with a mormon girl for 6 months. She was as responsible as your average 19 year old can be, she tried her best to pay rent on time, and she was DEFINATELY NOT a liar.
This statement is offensive because it attacks the individual people who practice mormonism, which is really unkind and un-Christian.
If you feel the DOCTRINE and TEACHINGS of the Mormon church are lies, that's fine. But do NOT make statements so biggoted like "mormons are liars".
mazuac: And by the way, Catholics do not practice idolatry. Don't throw around statements like that! We do NOT worship Mary and the Saints! That is a misconception. We HONOR them. We ask them to pray for us. But we do not worship them. If you have any questions about it, I'd be more than happy to answer them. 3nodding
I think it's wonderful that ya'll are so on fire for God... but please don't be so quick to cut down His people without thinking!

Actually, Mormonism and Jehovah's Witness' are not a denomination of Christianity.
As Christians, we beleive that there is one God, and one way to God, and that God was here and was not born, and that no one can ever be God or be perfect like God.
We also beleive that Jesus' sacrafice was sufficient for our sins to be forgiven.
However, Mormons beleive basically everything opposite of the fundamental and basic beleifs of Christianity.
They beleive there are countless Gods and Goddess', they beleive God was born on a planet called... gah! I forgot, but it was some crazy name. They also beleive God was a mortal until he died, and because he led such a good life, he became a God.
Now, Mormons beleive that by leading good fulfilling eyes, when they die, they to will become a God just like Yahweh (God.)
They also beleive that God had sexual intercourse with Mary, and thus that is how Jesus was born. They also beleive Satan is Gods twin brother. Along with that, they beleive that Jesus' sacrafice wasn't sufficient for our sins, such as murder, etc.
Those are just some of the most basic things that refute the fact that Mormons aren't a Christian denomination, and why I, personally, don't think they are. (Which they aren't.)
Also, J. Witness' are also mislead, thought I would have to do more research on them.
And about the whole "mormons are liars," I don't think they are liars as so much that they are mislead in there views, and that us as Christians must help them see the truth.
And at Ricette, how could you say that all us Christians are "liars?" ...My Lord, Savior, and Friend

Do you think their prayers will be answered differently or would be different if coming from them instead of a normal joe christian? Both my parents were catholic so again, not mean to disrespect. Just curious smile

@ Muzuac: I see you've done much research on Mormons and know their true beliefs. I think that God's name, according to them, is Elohim. They also believe in polygamy, and Satan is Jesus' twin brother. Another interesting thing is they keep changing some of their beliefs, and then there's the book of Mormon. They also believe that by praying for the deceased, they (the deceased) will go to heaven.
All I know of J.W.s is that they don't believe that Jesus is God and they don't allow blood transfusions, even if the person in need of one could die.
I understand why you would say that these people are mislead. But for someone to be mislead, someone at the beginning or in charge would have to lie, no?

Siren of Saturn Just curious...why do you ask mary and the saints to pray for you? Please don't take this the wrong way or as disrespectful, just curious as to why. Do you think their prayers will be answered differently or would be different if coming from them instead of a normal joe christian? Both my parents were catholic so again, not mean to disrespect. Just curious smile We ask Mary to pray for us because Jesus gave her to us as our spiritual mother. When on the cross, He said "behold, this is your mother". Mary is the supreme example of an ordinary human showing extraordinary grace and faith. She is an example God has given us to follow. Jesus does not refuse the requests of His mother, either, which can be shown by the whole wedding at Cana incident. Sometimes I'll just say a Hail Mary because I don't know exactly what to pray for, but I know if Mary is praying for me up there in Heaven, God will heed her prayers for me. Jesus told us to pray for one another - so Catholics ask Mary to pray for us too. She's a pretty neat lady - so having her pray for us is pretty neat too. As for the Saints... Catholics believe in something called the "communion of saints", which means that we believe everyone is connected in the Body of Christ. Including those who have died. Saints were people, just like us... who again, proved to have extraordinary faith. They are people we can relate to, and they are people we can develop a spiritual relationship with. They can pray for us too. Let me show you an example. I have a special devotion (friendship) with Saint Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus. When I feel scared or vunerable, I ask him to pray for me. Something like... "Saint Joseph, you protected Mary and Jesus by the grace of God. Please pray for my protection now." Then I follow it up with a direct prayer to God. But... since Saint Joseph was so good at the protection thing in life, his prayers would also be valuable to my situation. You ask your friends here on earth to pray for you. Why? Do you believe their prayers will be heard differently than yours? No. It's just that having more people pray for you is a good thing, and is what Jesus asked us to do for each other. Catholics and Mary and the Saints work exactly the same way, except they're already in Heaven. Did that make any sense?

Ablazed, that makes perfect sense. I think it's interesting to learn about religions, and your reply was very informative! Thank you for that.
And, in the case of Mormons/Christians, this issue comes up in many other religions. Since Mormons do not follow the basic Christian tenants the same way as other denominations, most [believers] do not consider them their fellow Christians. It is the same way with the Ku Klux Klan. The average Christian will look at the KKK's beliefs and dismiss them as being Christians at all. I know many Muslims who do the same thing with Islamic radicals such as Al Queda and the Taliban.
Satanists (the ones who follow Anton Szandor LaVey), for the most part, completely dismiss those who run around and do ritual sacrifices on humans in the name of Satan and "Satanism." I lot of LaVey's following is symbolism, with the Devil representing flesh pleasures and indulging in oneself.
There will always be religions like these. My only issue is when people take the "bad" ones, or the radicals, and plaster the bad name onto ALL of the people who practice whatever religion it may be.
Just my .02.

That does make sense....i think razz I've just grown up in so many non-traditional churches that it's hard for me to grasp the much more traditional side of it. Right now i've been going to a Methodist youth group for the past four years...it's the calmest church i've ever been too! ;P
