Its been six years now, and I pretty much hate my job. Granted, I love the animals, I do.
Here's why I hate my job:
1. I'm allergic to everything. Rats make me sneeze and itch, guinea pigs make my eyes water, I can't even go near the cats.. my hands are on the verge of another eczema outbreak because of the fish (and they're my favorite)
2. I don't make as much money as I should be. I'm sick of people who've gotten written up, call in sick and have been working there only half as long getting paid more than me. I don't care if I started at a lower wage than they did. I haven't called in sick for 5 years, I've never been written up, and I have been told I do good work.. there are several customers that come in just to talk to me, and I've been complimented so much these past few shifts that I want to look at the customer and say "I really hope you tell my manager" Still, I barely make enough to cover general living expenses.
3. We have so much to get done, and suddenly, they've recently piled on more stuff for us to do... When will I see other people work as hard as we do? Then they get pissed when we can't get everything done, and instead of sitting back and looking at everything we have to do (i say, they should do what we have to at least once and try to get it done in their alloted time frame)...they yell at us, accuse us of being lazy or of messing around.. but what I am supposed to do when I go to close an animal room and cages need to be cleaned, empty cages are soaking, a thousand dishes are in the sink and we have new animals that need to have their health examined (a precautionary thing)..and they gave EVERYTHING fresh vegetables in the morning in which I had to remove... not to mention I had to bath a guinea pig, and walk through the store to try to sell stuff to people that they don't need. AUGH!
4. People don't help us out. I'm helping someone with fish, they page someone to the fish department. I'm the only one. they only need to know where to find fish food. they page me twice before the woman interupts me. I can't answer the phone because my hands are full, and they page me to get the phone only for me to get the question "do you have turtles" as though the person who answered the phone couldn't walk three feet to check for themselves! BUT THE KICKER is that I was told I had to answer phonecalls and try to help the customers when the line for other departments rang through all the phones.. but... no one will do that for us.. in fact, right after I was told I had to do those calls that weren't for us, that I had to find a way of answering every fish call even with my hands both tied up. And that person's all about great customer service, however, etiquet anywhere says that answering the phone whiling having a conversation is rude: not to mention customers become impatient when they see me on the service phone for any extended amount of time.
I'M REALLY SORRY! I wanted to vent HARDCORE

Arggg! RANT TIMEEE!! stressed scream stressed
Yeah, they're really piling the work on us, aren't they? Apparently doing cats as WELL as all of our duties isn't enough... Now we have to face the cats as well as our whole department. So that's two of the most hard working employees in the busiest, most involved department facing half of the store without any help, when the other half of the store has three people who haven't done anything all day to face it. sweatdrop It's all stupid. I think we should all get together and write reports about all of this crap, and send it to corperate. I mean, this is the kind of stuff we could actually sue them for. Seriously. O_O

O_O well, a bunch of women sued Walmart for stupid s**t like this before. I don't think going through corporate will work because the DM and RM both agreed to this, and its standard in all the stores in our region right now. Perhaps if we did file a report, or a bunch of us did, they'd actually pay attention. And its true, those three people hardly do anything at night except face, and we have to face half of the store in an hour and a half. bleh. evil

Oh man, I hear ya. I've had a lot of work-drama over the past few years. One job I was being paid about four dollars less than everyone else on the technician team, and I can only assume it was because I was the only female. scream
For some reason, I always work jobs where it's ALL guys except me. At my last job I was the only girl out of forty employees for several months. gonk At that same job, their way of saying "Thanks for being with the company for a year" was to give me a $.14 raise. Yes, FOURTEEN CENTS.
Wow, big spenders..
And I had been a manager at that company, too! Psh, my new job is way better than my last job.. >:'D

Last year was my fifth anniversary and they gave me .20 cents more o.O So when I was told it'd be better this year, you can imagine my dismay when I got .16 cents... And I'm supposed to have a yearly review, but in the 6 years I've been working here.. I've only had 2 reviews done. Those are supposed to be what promises me the bigger raises. I am the second longest working employee of this particular store (ive been there longer than almost all of the managers) Gah.. I have a degree now, so I really hope to get something soon.

(Which is the same job as ska-chan ^^ wink Most of the time, I like it just fine. It's mostly a certain manager *cough*b***h*cough* that I can't stand, and makes me hate it from time to time.
