I believe it doesn't matter, you can use shoddy if both players agree. But don't join if you only have accesss to shoddy, not everybody uses that.

I meant that tryouts and practice for Echoplex will be on shoddy.
Honestly though, once you get past the lack of animation, and the occasional weirdness (like sometimes a pokemon with 1% will say 0%, though this doesn't effect the gameplay at all), it's actually a lot faster, and easier than WiFi to use, not to mention you can set clauses kind of like in PBR.
Edit: Also it gives everyone equal fitting so people dont QQ over pokesav
