Just what it says. Do you think the idea of publishing American works in a contest is a good idea or a bad idea? Tell me your opinion. 3nodding

I think it's a good idea... kinda. Some of the winning pieces I don't really agree with, but you get to see stuff people in America work on, and I personally think it's really cool. I also really like Peach Fuzz, which was the winner in the second volume I think 3nodding

I think it's a great idea. It's a great way for American comic artists to submit their work, get it published, and possibly even get a book deal, with a company that has much more exposure than the typical independent comic publisher does.
(Nothing wrong with indies, it's just that you don't see many indie publishers getting shelf space at places like Waldenbooks and Borders.)

I think its an awesome idea. It gives everyone a chance for there stuff to get out there and well known. If I was any good at making up storys I'd draw a bit of a manga and submit it.

I like the idea but I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback. But anyways, I think it's great for American manga artists to display their work to the public with a big company like Tokyopop.

Great idea. Awesome. Really. I'm so entering this year! Oh! Oh! And someone AMAZING off deviantART is entering this year and they will definitely win and it makes me soooo happy because their art is so good! I don't see how they CAN'T win (unless the story is bad... but a lot of good artists that I know are also really intelligent, so I'm not too worried about that). whee

I have a mixed opinion. While it's nice they're giving American artists a chance for their work to gain exposure, it's spreading (as well as furthering) misconceptions about Japanese works. It also seems to encourage the production of average, stereotyped comics rather than allowing the entrants to be particularly original or innovative.

Comics are comics, whether they were made in Japan or America. there's no real other chance for people to publish their comics aside from Rising Stars. in general, publishing companies frown down on illistration unless it's for a children's book of a mindless drone for Marvel or Dark Horse comics. don't take me wrong, I love Stan Lee's stuff, but there's something missing that is the international human-level appeal that there is in Japanese Manga. Some of them, like Dramacon and Offbeat, are pretty good. But a lot of them are just stupid.
