What CoE Considers to be Active

There are three levels of acceptable activity for the Chronicles of Evolution shop. Listed from the least active to the most, they are:

Active Owner, Inactive Character: AKA: No Roleplay
Responsibilities:

A. Show up in the main CoE thread 5 different days in a month and say something substantial (only saying hello or posting images does not count). --> Chat with us, please!

B. While RP is not required, growth forms must still be used, and these may include some minimal creative writing to help our artist out.

C. MAY participate in casual RP and previously approved in universe RP at the whim of the writer.

D. Growth forms can be requested every 8 weeks, no sooner. NO exceptions.

E. This will guarantee an original character that is not given NPC'd for the staff to do with as they please. =)

Active Owner, Semi-Active Character: AKA: Casual, unregulated RP OUTSIDE of the CoE world
Responsibilities:

A. Show up in the main CoE thread 4 different days in a month and say something substantial (only saying hello or posting images does not count). --> Chat with us, please!

B. These characters must be role-played in the unmoderated subforum of guild, or in a semi-OOC format in thread. Only Gaia TOS and polite etiquette rules apply.

C. Minimal amount of RP is equal to half of the word count Universe Character must meet, and you must keep track of this. We will require links and data. We won't search ourselves.

D. Will NOT count as part of the CoE world. This means Universe Characters will NEVER know Casual Characters outside of the subforum.

E. Exception to D is RP that is specifically approved for the CoE Universe by BOTH staff members.

F. While RP is not required, growth forms must still be used, and these may include some minimal creative writing to help our artist out.

G. Growth forms can be requested every 6 weeks after requirements are met, no sooner. NO exceptions.

** Casual RP done in the subforum can be done in any manner you please, at any literacy level, in any situation, at any age. There are no rules. Unless a problem arises or a thread is against Gaia's TOS, the shop moderators will not intervene. **

Universe Characters: These are characters that use the prompts for RP and write within the metaplot world of CoE. Basically, Universe Characters have the added expectations of common sense, chronological posting, and literate RP. If you meet RP requirements, you can request a growth as quickly as four weeks after the previous.

Universe Characters: ** Can write in the Casual RP Subforum, as long as they understand NO casual RP will be counted In-Universe unless otherwise approved.

** Have added incentives of getting extra merchandise art, as well as the higher possibility of an inspired artist for unannounced arts (the latter is not a promise, the former comes with specific goals).

** Have the possibility of reaching a higher rank as characters than the other options.

** Are more likely to get RP opportunities with shop NPCs, and are definitely the only ones that will be included in metaplot.

The Point System

A. For every 250 words completed that is based off of a written prompt, you will receive 1 point.

B. For every 350 words of substituted prompts, you will receive 1 point.

C. EXCEPTION for both A and B: You will receive 2 points if these are Joint RPs with a writer that is not staff.

D. The points can be spent on art shop incentives in the near future. We expect the lower point-priced items to be around 5 points, which means meeting the low end requirement of every level will guarantee the ability to receive an extra.

E. We reserve the right to distinguish between what incentives Casual RP Writers and In-Universe RP Writers will receive. After all, the incentives are aimed at In-Universe writing.

Prompts Defined

Prompted role play is designed to add give writers and those who like meeting the challenges of gaining added incentives an outline in which to do that in. Following the prompts to document your character's growth can be done as quickly or slowly as you like.

Quick Facts:

A. Character prompts are broken down into sections first by age and reputation, and secondly by category.

B. As a general rule, prompts are only suggestions to help fulfill role-play the required word count to reach the next level. This is a minimal amount. Some of the prompts, we hope to see a lot more, and we really hope to see much more development than what is offered in the prompts here.

C. Unrequired prompts may be substituted as the writer pleases, as long as it makes developmental sense. Again, they're just suggestions.

D. Required prompts are designed to help us understand your character better and where (s)he fits in this world.

E. Yes, by all means, mix and match prompts that are in the same development level! Just watch the word count.

F. Joint role play is ALWAYS encouraged!

G. All written prompts counting toward shop points are subject to staff approval, as we want to consider these prompts as a continuous, reality based world. If you want to go nuts, head to the Casual RP Subforum. We'll still recognize activity there, even if this is our focus. =)

H. What can get your writing approved or unapproved? The shop managers are big on character development in a linear, logical fashion. We are big on realistic RP, and we love to see creativity, effort, and true care put into characters. We like thoughtful, literate, life filled RP. This will get almost anything you write approved.

Prompts: Floating Prompts

Word Count total: 1200, included 2 required prompts
These prompts can be done at ANY time, or even multiple times. if applicable. Basically, the unrequired one is a suggestion for a free prompt substitute.

Family I: A time has come when, for some reason, you need to make a more or less no return decision on telling a very close friend (significant other?) or a family member about your up to now secret life. Not telling may significantly damage the relationship, telling has its own repercussions. What has happened? What do you decide, how, and why? Is the reaction what you expected it to be? If you didn't tell, can you handle the consequential break? If you do tell, how do you handle knowing that the information may leak---or, worse, one of your superiors could find out and have major issues with it? **It is encouraged, but not required, to do this prompt as a joint prompt with other characters and/or NPCs**
Word Count 600 Words **Required**

Love I: So… now that we're on the subject of family relations… what is up with your love life? Is there anyone you fancy? Spill the beans!
Word Count 300 Words

Life I: You wake up and you go to bed, but in between lots of things happen. Describe those things. What happens on a typical (or a-typical, perhaps?) day out of your life? **Required**

Compare the two positions with each other and add a final ooc paragraph to critically analyze the differences and the reason why your character is like he is.

(Note: In RP years, you'll need to have been training for 1 year at the least, and likely 2 at the most to get to this stage)
Characters current in this stage:

What's going on these days?
News II: There has been another evolved incident in the news. A fourteen year old girl was killed by a mob. How does this affect you? Worst of all, the perpetrators went free because there was a 'lack of evidence', yet everyone knows who did it. Do you plan to take any personal action against this injustice? If so, what?
Word Count 300 Words

Mission IV:. You've been cleared to do a C-mission. And you get to do it solo! Wow, your superiors must be really impress-- oh no, they are just short on manpower. What is the mission and how does it end?
Word Count 500 Words

Meetings II:. Big news! Today you will get to meet one of the higher figures from the hierarchy. Flashcharge or Solarduct will come to "inspect their troops", so to speak. It is big news and everyone is excited and/or nervous. Describe the feelings of your character during all of this. How do they consider the person coming to visit? How do they feel about the visit themselves?
Word Count 250 Words

Meetings III: . A big shot is coming to visit. This would be a very good time for you to impress them and maybe even get higher up! Do you take this possibility into account or are you satisfied to wait until things happen? What kind of plan do you concoct?
Word Count 250 Words

Meetings IV: There he is! The great figure themselves! Let your plan be put into action now! (This roleplay will be done with a staff member. Please send the mule a PM when you are ready and with a short plot summary).
Word Count 500 Words

Do you still crawl, Baby?
Power Play II: Describe two offensive ways your character can use their powers. What do these do to your character? Does it strain them? Is it hard or nearly impossible? Is a certain state of mind required? How does this affect the subject of the offensive use? Painful? Lethal? Be as vivid as possible in your description of how the power manifests itself in this particular use.
Word Count 250 Words **Required** (While the prompt itself is required, there is not a *method* to the prompt, you can show this throw an anecdote, conversation, journal entry, scientific-based observation, or simply narrating and explaining the powers.)

Power Play III: Describe two defensive ways your character could use their powers. What do these do to your character? Does it strain them? Is it hard or nearly impossible? Is a certain state of mind required? How does this affect the subject of the offensive use? Painful? Lethal? Ok, so you've grown out of the baby stage: Ages 18 - 24:

Word Count: 1500 Words, including 2 Required Prompts
If you joined as a younger character, your character MUST be at least 18 years of age to hit these prompts. If you joined as an older character, your character MUST have been in the previous stage at least 1 year, the previous stage can have taken up to three years though, this is your choice.
Characters in this Stage:

Whatcha thinkin' these days?
Contemplation I: At some point we all have to reconsider something important in our lives. College students tend to change majors or seriously consider doing so, people who are very religious or not at some point must really sit down and stick with one thing or switch. Related to being an evolved, and related to your alliance, when does this happen for your character? Why? Describe what happens. Do they stay or change? Do they tell anyone? Why? Why not? What goes on?
Word Count 300 Words

Getting some recognition, yeah?
Mission V: You are now cleared for B-rank missions, which will involve possible risks and encounters with the opposite side. During your first mission of this type, what happens? How? (This is a joint-piece with a member of the opposite side. If required, staff will help out).
Word Count 500 Words

Do you strut or hang your head?
Mission VI: You have just received word from your superior. There is another anti-evolved action going on, only this time you are going to intercept it. When you get to the scene, you arrive just in time to see a gang of people about to deliver a serious/final blow to a teenage boy. He seems to be barely conscious and severely hurt. Do you manage to intercept or do you fail? What do you do to the perpetrators? And what happens afterwards to the victim?
Word Count 500 Words **Required**

Contemplation II: Describe what kind of effect the previous incident had on you. Is your character conflicted? Upset? How do they deal with this? Do they go for help to one of their superiors?
Word Count 200 Words **Required
PostPosted: Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:44 pm

Nor are you just some Kid, Middle B Hero/Villain ages 19-27

Word Count: 3200, including 2 Required Prompts
Yes, we moved your age up quickly, but word count here more than makes up for it! You must be at the "lower" Level B for at least a year before attaining this, and up to three years should you choose.
Characters in this Stage:

I recognize you, but tell me more!
Relaxation (or not?) I: Being a hero/villain sometimes means that you see disturbing things. Innocence can't necessarily be kept the same way when you're out fighting. How do you relax, handle these things? Or do you bottle it all?
Word Count 250 Words

Ideology: Your organization has a certain cause, and goal. What is your own ideology? Do you agree with it or do you have your own ideology? What is your motivation for joining the organization you did, does it still fit today? Self reflect.
Word Count 250 Words

Revenge II: Celebration! This time has had it's ups and its downs. You've had your silly notions that you started with changed to see the reality. You've had great successes, you've had some embarrassing failures. You've made some enemies, you've made some friends. Today, for whatever reason, your friends have gathered together. During the course of the evening, someone pulls up a video on a laptop. Lo and behold, your creative-minded friend has deviously put together a bunch of clips from various locations. There's some nice things on there, but it goes from then to now, and the focus seems to be on having a bit of fun at your expense. What has been some of your most embarrassing moments to this point? How do you react to the video? If revenge is on your mind, what prank to you pull back?
Word Count 300 Words

Anything Interesting Happening?
Puppy Eyes I: . Ah, you've raised up enough that you've been asked to give a talk to some bright-eyed new recruits. What do you say to these little fellas? What do you feel about this "assignment?" Would you make it clear you don't intend on becoming a mentor, or would you warm up to the idea (though this hasn't been asked of you, this assignment may make it clear it can be!). Joint post encouraged!
Word Count: 600 Words **Required**

Puppy Eyes II: One of the new pupils has taken to you like a star-struck worshiper to its greatest idol. S/he is currently going so far as to follow you around and look at you with shiny, big eyes as soon as you say something. How do you deal with this? Do you bask in the attention or are you repulsed by it? Do you let your worshipper down gently or could you care less? (Joint post encouraged!)
Word Count: 500 Words

Mentor I: Relaxation time! Since your previous mentoring assignment went so terribly well (apply sarcasm if necessary) you are now being ordered to take out the new brats for…well, whatever really. Petting zoo? Ice-cream? Er—ok, they're older than that. What do you do with them and how do you deal with them? How do they deal with YOU? Especially on an informal occasion, around "normal" people, who would probably not hesitate to kill one or two of you. Can everyone hold back or does something happen? Chaos is bound to ensue and we would love to know how you deal with this! Joint post encouraged!
Word Count: 500 Words

Everything Else the Same Still?
Power Play V: Five steps.... backwards.... Everything, EVERYTHING is going WRONG!! You failed that last mission, you can't get a grasp on your powers anymore, it seems like your support system has gone down the toilet---It's a sign of: Your second power manifestation! How does your character respond to the sudden lack of control? Is it a quick, obvious thing that there's a second manifestation coming up, or does it take the character and even the trained mentors some time to realize that's what happening? What does it feel like to think you're climbing up the rungs of the ladder---then, BAM! It's like you've fallen on your butt and are the new guy again? Obviously, it doesn't last very long, but while it's lasting, your mentor and possibly some of your friends have been teasing you mercilessly (all dead serious too) about how "Oh, sometimes this happens and sometimes people never get back up on their feet... Crying shame, you held so much promise..." What's your reaction? No, no, punching your mentor in the face is not an option. They're still above you for a REASON and--well, you're still wobbly a bit and they'll brain you first. =) Can be joint posted with an NPC and other writers.
Word Count: 800 words **Required**

Really, I guess... You're out doing your own things now...Like, a teenager or something? (High B Hero/Villain, Ages 21 - 29)

Word Count: 2250 Worda, including 3 Required Prompts
Because of the new power manifestation and having to handle this, it'll take at least but no more than 2 IC years to get here, both inspite and because of the fast-paced media world.)
Characters in this Stage:

Hey, I KNOW YOU!! What do you think about...
Division I:. No one ever SAID things were perfect. Hey, politics get involved in every line of work. Now there's this person (it can be a mod-created NPC or not, but please note that we reserve the right to ask this prompt in particular to be rewritten and can also be done with another player) that your character has built a strong relationship with at some point, and holds in some regard, that has gotten together with some other people that have decided that Charles/Flashcharge/your.mentor or Solarduct/your.mentor is a lunatic (don't we all know it...) and that they're going to pull away. They are setting up a similar, but separate organization that they've thought you might be disgruntled enough to join them in. Or perhaps it's someone that wants to fly a little more solo and has asked you to join in. What is your reaction? You may decide the extent of this division, is a small, unorganized group, or highly efficient? Does it include theft of information, technology, or anything else? Are the reasons petty or solid? What is your reason for your decision based off of? Opportunity? Disgruntlement? Fear? Loyalty? Pity? Logic?
Word Count: 800 Words

Are you Independent Yet?
News IV: You are walking across the street, doing whatever, when you suddenly stumble upon an anti-evolved demonstration. What do you do?
Word Count: 400 Words

So you've gained some real ground!!
Promotion II: Oh no! Your trainer/mentor has just come to you and solemnly told you the big man wants a word with you! Charles, Solarduct—whoever it is, what could it be? Reactions around you vary greatly, indicating this is not a prank. Everyone is either solemn, or worried, telling you how much trouble you in. Oh man! What is going on?
Word Count: 250 Words

Promotion III: You've been given an official promotion. What kind of promotion? What does this job entail? How did you come to get it? Did you want this position, did you work towards it, or did it come as a complete shock? How do you deal with this? It means your status is now of equal level to that of your previous mentor/trainer and you are-- gasp! – a graduate, and full member of your organization!! NOW WHAT?!
Word Count: 300 Words **Required**

Promotion IV: Well, a new promotion means new responsibilities as well as privileges. What is the first thing you are going to take advantage of with your new status?
Word Count: 300 Words

Promotion V: . On the other hand, what is the first real obligation of your job? Every good thing has a bad thing. What is the bad thing of this promotion?
Word Count: 300 Words

Promotion VI: Of course, gloating is also a good part of being promoted. How do you deal with your colleagues and other trainees? Are they jealous? Do you make them jealous? Describe what happens. Joint post encouraged!
Word Count: 400 Words **Required**

Mission VIII: Your first mission in your new capacity! So naturally, everything goes wrong. Describe the disaster that was this mission and describe the reactions of your superiors and, worst of all—your friends!
Word Count: 500 Words **Required**

Snapshots of Example Prompts:

File 1: Acceptable Answer: Word Association, Ace Edwards, 16 years old

What I think, stream of conscious writing by Ace Edwards

Topic 1: Evolveds The FUTURE!! Best thing ever to happen to Earth / me!

Topic 2: Superhero Comics So much fun!! Something POSITIVE for evolveds, and worth reading.

Topic 3: Under-age drinking I engage in it sometimes. 'Nuff said.

Topic 4: Literature and Reading Classics = overrated. Reading for entertainment should be.... entertaining. Research ok.

Topic 5: Solarduct Freakin' shame a psychopath had to get a cool power!

Topic 6: Flashcharge Cool guy, America's best citizen, Flying and blue orbs = AWESOME!

Topic 7: Making out: Gah, only boring and lazy people have time for that.

Topic 8: School A system made by retards to make more retards.

Topic 9: Darkness Pure darkness? Not fun. I like to see.

Topic 10: Slugs I'd like to slug a bad guy sometime.

Example Notes: One or two of these came out to less than 10 words, for Word Association, this is ok as long as the thought is complete.

File 2: Unacceptable Answer: Power Play 1 and 2, Ace Edwards, 16 years old

Offensive and Defensive Tactics of Ace's Abilities

WHAT?!?! He can't do either! I can't think of anything, really! He makes OTHER people be better offensively and defensively. Ace can't actually get a piece of the action!

Example Note: Ace might be the kind of person to make this sort of statement, but these prompts are not necessarily based off of Ace's thoughts. If you CAN'T think of offensive/defensive points for your powers at their lower levels, then maybe you need to reconsider the ability. It may not work at all. OR you can suggest an alternative assignment--- In this case, AriyaLauna really CAN'T think of what to say, but she might present SSJ with detailed training or Ace detailing to his (reluctant) father about how he can be helpful to other evolveds, this would be an acceptable alternative. An unacceptable alternative might be asking to detail what Ace does on a Saturday night. That's not related at all and this is IMPORTANT and REQUIRED!
