Okay, so a few weeks ago my daddy deleted my limewire because, as he said,

"I don't like Limewire. It could get you into trouble."

This pissed me off as we have access to HIS library which totals over 25,000 music files which I know he didn't pay for. When confronted on the subject, he looked at me with sad eyes and said:

"...Torrents."

I took it upon myself to google such a concept yesterday evening after signing up for Game 24.

Horray! I'd discovered the torrents site!

I'm an idiot. I didn't click the clearly marked "Download Utorrent now" link.
No sir. I thought I could open such a file....with Itunes.
sweatdrop

And I left the 'do this for all files like this' box checked,
so even now, with utorrent I can't download them.

Does anyone know how I can change the settings?

Oh, thought this would be about using said torrent client. <.<
Hmm...

You can fix it through the registry. But I hate the registry...

GOOGLE TIMES.

This?

Maybe this?

I'll let you know right now that torrents will get you into trouble faster than limewire will (or any other p2p stuff)...

limewire (and a good deal of others) is just transferring stuff between 2 people (eg, you have what I want, so I download from you)... etc. You can (maybe even will) get caught, but it's harder... That, and because of this, many people restrict uploading which *helps* make them more secure...

Torrents, on the other hand, is a "swarm" type of p2p... you get a bunch of people that want something together, and a seed sends different parts of whatever it is to each one, then they all share between each other to get everyone to complete the download, and they seed... and etc. Now, all it takes for them to get a bunch of people is just to join in... log, and bammo, little effort gets lots of people, so it's a bit more lucrative to get people this way... Also, if you try and restrict your upload, well, it's set up to where people won't let you download from them... it forces you to participate (which, I like... keeps things good.)

So, torrents are infinitely more dangerous than limewire (it's been said that almost every active torrent out there is being watched in some fashion by some authority figure... and I don't doubt it, as I've seen connections go to a couple of places in China that are odd...)

Now, there are ways to block the people that want to catch you, but I don't want to be held liable here for helping people pirate stuff...

But, Google knows. Google knows all. ^_^

And, you'll like torrents better, trust me. ^_^

... Your dad's a hypocrite. XD
"Limewire is bad. Torrents are good."
whut.

I personally use BitComet, but whatever torrent program you use is really personal preference. Hirun uses BitAzure I think.

I don't torrent music. Only big things, like clients for Ragnarok, etc. Things that otherwise don't have a download link from server to me. (Like shows that certain places have taken down, or fansubs from the subbers themselves. Whole series at once.)

But if you use firefox, it's Tools -> Options -> Content -> "Manage"

There are multiple torrent trackers. o3o Piratebay is pretty big, that and Demonoid. (Demonoid was taken down a while ago, but I think they're back up. They require you to register though.)

Anyhow, good luck.

Thanks guys. I don't think my dad thought I would get anywhere off that one word. Because I'm a girl, notorious for not being able to spell and 'has no experience with illegally downloading things'. *cough*

I agree with Shoy. I never have to torrent music, I can usually find a way to directly download it.

If you're on windows, couldn't you just download the torrent file directly, right click it, "Open with" select urtorrent, and re-chekc the "always use this program" box? confused
