I thought they couldn't make a sequel because they game ended with everyone dying.

What? Not everyone died. Sides, at the VERY end they had that lil teaser cutscene with Pete that seemed to scream "There's gonna be a sequel!" and ah ha! A video of Beyond Good & Evil 2
