When I was younger (ten or so) I always had my nailed squared off. My friend gave me a manicure when I was 15 or so, and made them all round. Now I've kept that up for ten years and I'm thinking of going back to squared.

What sort of nail care do you do? I clip them and then filed them round. I have no idea how I'm going to get them squared - any tips?

I use normal clippers with the metal file. Emery boards give me the chills. eek

Your nails are so long! eek

I work with my hands alot, so I keep my nails short. Nothing fancy, just cut them straight across with nail clippers.

Edit:

Haha. I missed the photobucket link and thought that image was your actual nails.

xd I wish those were my nails!

I cut them last night and had good intentions of having them look (sorta) like that first picture. Unfortunately I butchered the one and gave up. So, they're round again. I might treat myself to a manicure at one of the nice hotel spas here.

I have natural nails too, and i keep mine rounded.

When i worked in retail i had them cut short, but now that im out, ive grown them out again ^_^

If you want to square them, I'd go to a nail salon the first time.
Then buy a little battery operated naily thingy. They're less painful and 'grinding' than the finger nail filers...

This is what im talking about, and make sure it has more than one head - - each head is used for a different shaping. They're about $20

Thanks! Next time I'm in the big city, I will definitely hunt it down. It takes me about 45 minutes to get my nails how I like them, hopefully this'll shave some time off that.

i found that by clipping the nail off, and making a straight edge, you can file it to make it smooth and only file the corners just a bit so that they aren't sharp but still not rounded, and then let them grow and they'll be squared out.
my nails are really unhealthy though, so i can never keep them long for very long without them peeling and then i have to clip them again.-

Okay, I've already mentioned in this forum that I work at a craft store.
But that's only one part-time job.
My other part-time job?
A nail salon.
Which means I can't do zip with my own nails.
BUT! I really, really like the Talika nail shaper kit. xd I thought I was the only one that knew about it! When I have free time at work, I do a basic clean-up and shaping job on my nails, then when I get home, and/or have somewhere to go, I use Talika to polish the look, make sure there are no ragged edges or cuticles, etc.
Love it!

The kind of nails you want look nice, but round nails are pretty too.

My nails are as short as possible, really, since they have to be for giving massage.

Would that Talika thing be any good at keeping nails a certain length?
