He wanted to leave, Foxfeather was keen enough to catch that and the subtle hinting in Cliffside's voice. No bother. The other male seemed uncomfortable, but easily swayed. It might just take some time to win him over.
"My, hopefully there will be plenty of fresh food for everyone once all of the commotion settles down. Noctus provides. You certainly have Speed well trained."

Ah, Speed. "He's my most prized companion, along with Bee. Indispensable, the both of them." The keeper glanced away into the night, flicking his eartufts forward. "Our kind is strong," he muttered, thoughts turning again to the shortage. "Noctus willing, we'll make things right again."
Cliff tilted his head and gave the watcher a slight smile.
"Well, Foxfeather, that was a most interesting conversation. If you're ever in the mood for another one, I don't live too far from here. There's a big oak with all sorts of cages hanging on it -- you've probably passed it before."

"It is always pleasant to meet a like minded fellow. Speaking with you has been most pleasant...
Come to think of it, I do think I've passed your territory on a few occasions."
The small deep woods type dipped his head politely and his feathers fluffed comfortably. "I would be delighted to visit you sometime. I'll bring something to eat when I do."

"I look forward to it."
And he did. It would be a different experience in his own, familiar territory. None of this silly discomfort nonsense to cut the conversation short. He was already forgetting it, anyway. Foxfeather wasn't a bad bird, not at all.
Cliffside checked his feathers over, straightening a few. When he was finished preening, he inclined his head toward the Watcher once more. "Till next time." Then the young Wildtype dropped from the branch, gliding silently toward his home.

"Indeed. It will be pleasant." Foxfeather replied and preened his own feathers as Cliffside did.
"I'll see you then." He called after the wildtype as he dropped from the branch. Unlike his new acquaintance, though, Foxfeather was not ready to leave. To him, there was still much work to be done. Watchers were to watch and to be ever vigilant, so that was what he would do. He fluffed his feathers comfortably and turned his golden eyes after some noise he heard in the underbrush. A mus scampered by and the sentinel thought of dinner.
It turned to be a more pleasant night than he had expected.
