I've done mallet percussion in for my entire middle school career. I usually played a marimba, but for competitions and my last year of spring concerts, I played a vibraphone. I feel that this is an underrated instrument in a jazz band, the icing on the cake. Can mallets be considered a jazz instrument? What say you?

Yes of course. Listen to what the Dave Holland big Band does with the vibraphone and other mallet instruments.
