So after months of narrowing down the choices, scoping out dell, future shop, staples, london drugs, radio shack, the computer warehouse place i got my monitor, and even costco, i think i'm almost ready to make a choice on a pretty decent laptop.
I'm not going for the highest end machine out there, nor one with the biggest screen. I've got it narrowed down to a couple of choices and now i'm just waiting for Monday, when my boyfriend's brother (a techy who can hopefully help us scope out the best deal) can come to future shop and talk jargon with the sales guy and scare him into telling the truth when he makes his pitch.
The Candidates:
 HP Pavilion - $649.99 Intel Dual-Core T2370 1.73 GHz 14.1" Widescreen 3GB memory 250GB 5200 RPM hard drive Built-in Webcam. Comes to about $715.00 after taxes HP Pavilion - $899.99 Intel Dual-Core T5550 1.83 GHz 15.4" Screen 3GB RAM 320GB HDD Dedicated 256MB graphics Wireless Networking Comes to about $990.00 after taxes HP - $699.97 Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.50 GHz 14.1" Screen 1024MB Ram 160GB SATA 5400RPM Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Built-in Webcam Integrated WiFi Comes to about $770.00 after taxes
So far i'm leaning towards the third one, simply because it comes with more things standard and the price is better since it's on sale. We looked at a couple of good deals at London Drugs too, but we found the same computers at a better price when we went to Future shop because of their sale. And all of the listed computers were better deals in my eyes than anything we had found at london drugs.

 HP Pavalion. It's the cheapest, and it's better specs than the other HP you said you want. The Pavilion doesn't have what video card it has as listed, but that really doesn't matter much unless you're into playing hardcore computer games. The Pavilion has a faster processor, more RAM, and more HDD space. It doesn't say it has a wireless card, but I'll bet you it does unless it's extremely old. If it doesn't have a wireless card, it's only $30 or so to get a usb wireless adapter, which is what I use for my PC (Because I don't have an empty PCI port). Plus the Pavilion has a built-in webcam. Why would you go with the third choice for "more features" when it's clear the Pavilion has more features than the other? edit: I'm talking about the $649.99 one, comparing it to the $699.97 one. What are you goignt o be doing with this laptop? What are using it for?

First is better than Third Second is better than First... At least in my opinion.
While [Q] isn't exactly speaking crazy talk, my only problem with #1 is that it doesn't have any mention of networking. Meaning "Will it have Wifi or not?" To me, no matter how awesome a laptop may sound, I'd prefer it to have wifi included.
That and I wouldn't really use a webcam. >3>;;

For the money, the first has the third beat (and wireless networking can be cheaply bought... IF it doesn't have it)
The second *obviously* is better than the first... but you're paying for it...
So, it's more or less between the first two (imo), and up to just how much cash you want to put out... o_o

So here's what went down. First of all, i'm typing to you from my brand new lappy. Got a little antsy when i found out that the sale was going to be over tomorrow and went to get one. I had decided on the HP Pavillion, the 866 one, except the one they had advertised hadn't come into their stock yet, BUT, they had an HP GAMING Pavillion for the exact same price, with the exact same specs except it had a dedicated graphics card, better processor, and came with a few extra gadgets.
So i ended up getting it. So far i LOVE it. The keyboard is ergonomic, the display is superb, vista is absolutely breathtaking and, aside from having to personalize the thing to my liking (getting firefox, msn, maple, etc.) it's absolutely perfect for my needs. Except i keep hitting the caps lock button instead of a because it's a little smaller than normal, but i'm sure i'll get used to it. Know what's cool? The mouse pad thingy has this section where it's like.. a scroll button. Rlly cool feature for a laptop. You don't even have to move the mouse to scroll. <3333
I'm in love. Don't be surprised if you don't hear from me for a couple of hours while i have eyegasms at vistas beauty.

She picked the suggested one! Huzzah!
On another note, I personaly think vista's too shiny for me. @____@ Tell me if you like it enough that it's worth me installing eventually.

So last night i was playing with the settings, downloading skins, generally customizing and making it pretty as hell. (i have a wall-e msn skin! biggrin ) Anyway, i finished up with that and decided to check on the quality of the webcam it had. So i booted it up and well... wow is pretty much the only thing i can say. Quality wise, it's pretty standard and basic, but HP has this video editing program thing that comes with it that's pretty damned cool. You can add like falling snowflakes, borders, change it to night vision, and there's this suuuuper neat thing you can do that changes all of the things recorded so that they're like.. yellow screentone dots on a black background. It was dark so i didn't see it very well, but it was still pretty damned sweet. Also, you can add things into frames. Like a big cartoony "BIFF! Bang!" type image from comic books or a sweat drop or confetti spraying all over the place. I kind of want to play with it... a lot. There's a quick-link to youtube on it too, which i figured was pretty cool. You can film your video blog, add cool effects, and then send it off to the races :3
Also, i'm getting better at not hitting the wrong buttons when i type. :p Now i just need to decide whether i download maple or not biggrin
