Obama, because his political leanings are more in line with my own. Of course, I don't feel the need to thoroughly research the candidates because I cannot vote in the election so my preference is admittedly partly a gut feeling.

Ok let me go down the line of why I think Obama should win. 1.Gay marriage- although he is against Gay marriage(he voted pro though), he at least supports civil unions. 2.Education- opposes vouchers for private school and for merit pay for good teachers, opposes intelligent design, and proposes a credit for volunteering after college! 3.Energy- plans to reduce oil consumption by 35% by 2030. 4.health care- universal with guaranteed acceptance and mandatory for children 5.proposes $80 Billion in tax cuts for poor and middle class 6.wants to limit lobbyist influence 7.Wants to end the war in Iraq those are my 7 main reasons....

I agree though... I was a really strong Hillary Clinton supporter, and was disappointed and I've really thought about the differences between McCain and Obama, and have realized that Obama is the best choice for president.

(Haha, reviving another dead-for-a-month thread.)
Now now, no need to bash Pixie for her opinion. XP Though I do have to admit, I didn't like Hillary much either. Her ideals are essentially the same as Obama's, and that's good, but I didn't care much for her character.
But that's just me.
Anyway, I'm voting for Obama. Basically for the reasons that Light mentioned. Civil unions are certainly a step toward same-sex marriage, the healthcare and education do need to be more affordable, and the Iraq war does need to end. I'll be thrilled if he makes it to the White House, which I suspect he will.

Obama should be president if the public focuses on the major issues, instead of just one: the war.
Recent polls showed that the public trusted McCain in terms of warfare and such.
As long as the American people focus on the bigger & complete picture, Obama will be president.

The Iraq war is, almost undoubtedly, the biggest and most important issue to worry about.

Ummm... just to give a heads up, its not the issue to worry about. in most pools THE ECONOMY is the #! issue, its the simple mommy or daddy problem for those who dont get it Mommy- Economy, Jobs, Healthcare-Democrats win Daddy-National Security- Republicans win Dems dont ever win on national security, so if it happened wed lose, but the pure fact of it it, yes the war and terrorism account for about 25% of peoples issue. the other 75% or so is the economy, look at any exit poll in any primary from February onward

Queen of the Radii Obama, because his political leanings are more in line with my own. Of course, I don't feel the need to thoroughly research the candidates because I cannot vote in the election so my preference is admittedly partly a gut feeling. A fair amount of voting (if not all voting) is emotion driven. As for me I personally side with Obama more than I side with McCain. @LightMousy I disagree very strongly with point 6. I see the limiting of lobbyist influence as a limitation on democracy itself. Lobbyists, pressure groups, interest groups or whatever you want to call them provide a very good way for a group of people to exercise political power. The purpose in political powers is another mechanism to help protect the people from a corrupt government.
