"Well, come on, come on," Sir Valdemar encouraged her. "Shiro was the one who insisted we wait for you."
He stepped away from the tome, then motioned for Shiro to take over. "If you would, my Lord," he smiled.

She followed Shiro so she could look over his shoulder, even though technically it was more around his shoulder. Not that she would be able to read such a thing anyhow, but Shiro would be.
Which really didn't surprise her at all.

Shiro's eyes glowed softly as he stepped up to the tome, running one hand over the cover, hesitating for a moment, fearful that what he and Sir Valdemar had done might not work. Then he opened the tome and flipped through the pages, not really knowing what he was looking for.
"Anything in particular you want to try?" he asked Lin, looking up at her over his shoulder. "It's got every place in the Four Lands, just name it."

Lin thought about it, a memory tugged at the back of her mind, one of a little boy whom was not afraid... at least he didn't stay afraid for long. It seemed like a long time ago, which to be fair now it was.
"Namunuito," Lin finally replied recalling the name of the town, "How about there?"

Shiro beamed. "Fishing town!" he said brightly, flipping the pages until he came to the one that he wanted. "It looks like a place where I want to visit someday ... but Lin, isn't that where that boy is from, the one who said he wanted to come with you? What was his name again?"
He placed one finger on the page and looked at Lin again.

"Roydon," Lin replied without even thinking, it wasn't that long ago after all in reality.
She didn't think twice about the questions, after all she had thought if any place to start to prepare to sailing that would be it. Roydon would love it.

Shiro grinned. "Roydon. Right. So, Namonuito, the only Southland port. Here we go ... hopefully."
He chuckled softly and turned his eyes to the book. He rubbed his hands together nervously and took a deep breath, then put one finger on the book again. Slowly, carefully, he began to read aloud, his voice strong and steady despite his anxiety.
The room around the four of them slowly faded away, replaced with the hot desert sunshine and cloudless sky. The library was gone, replaced by buildings and streets that seemed to be fitting for a fishing town: fish markets, sailing supplies and shops, boat sales and parts, ropes, chains, sails, everything.

The first thing that came to Lin's mind was that it must be nice swimming all year long nearly. Well.. if she knew how to swim, that was still sort of on her to do list. She couldn't help but look around, it wasn't like anything she had seen before, granted she had never seen a fishing town before.
"Wow...." she grinned taking it all in.

"The only thing we haven't managed yet," Shiro murmured, interrupting his reading and causing the vision to fade away into reality, "is how to get people or moving things in there. In Manwe's version there is life ... this is nothing but a dead version, we can't have animals or people ... nothing that's alive."
He frowned softly. "But at least this much of it works," he murmured. "There is hope. Perhaps with a bit more research ..."

Now that Shiro mentioned it, he was right. Lin had recalled people walking and things moving, this was like looking at a stage waiting to be filled. There was almost... a haunting quality to it.
"Still... this is amazing," Lin replied with a small smile, "And I'm sure you two will managed it."
After all the book had already been years in the making as it is.

Shiro smiled warmly at his aunt as he closed the book carefully.
"Thanks, Lin," he murmured softly, turning and standing up once more. "Well ... I supposed I'd best head back to my room and get ready to leave. Thank you, Sir Valdemar, for letting me help you with this ... I'll be back to try again."
He shook the old historian's hand, and then turned towards the door.

Oh yea... she thought to herself, today they had to go back to move. Since this was probably as far as Shiro and Sir Valdemar were going to get for the moment with the book, there wasn't much point in staying for a few more days.
She nodded and looked up at Sir Valdemar and Earendil, "I should get packed too," she turned to Sir Valdemar, "See you in about a month or so."
Since there was no way even a move was going to make her miss those lessons, with hugs (Lin still hugged, old habits died hard... really hard), she left to get ready for home.
