** SPOILER ALERT!**
Is he the Forth or Third Hokage? In episode 72 he says he's the Third. But while Orochimaru is resurcting the Hokages for the battle he says that he has to stop him from raiseing the Third confused

i think orochimaru wasn't using the word 'third' as a pronoun. but i do think he was going to try and call thr Fourth Hokage. ninja

That may be but you're saying that Sarutobi is the third and the blonde Hokage is the forth?! How's that possible?

Sarutobi is the third. He is the Sandaime. san means third, and daime...well, they just kinda put that there. He summons the first and second ones.
It's possible since sarutobi retired to let the fourth become Hokage, but after he was killed sealing the Kyuubi, Sarutobi had to come out of retirement until he was killed in the fight, leaving the villiage Kage-less til Tsunade took up the position.

Maybe you misunderstood, without knowing it, what Orochimaru said.
Sarutobi IS the Third. Well he was because he's dead.
