Giants DE Michael Strahan has decided to retire from the NFL, today. He addressed his team a few days before the team opens up minicamps.
Strahan is the all-time Giants leader in sacks (141.5) which is also 5th all-time for the NFL. He holds the NFL record for sacks in a season (22.5). Strahan also led the Giants in games played, during his 15 year career. Michael Strahan was a 7-time Pro Bowler (1998-2000, 2002-04, 2006), with 6 All Pro selections (1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005). Strahan is a probable All-Decade team for the 2000's. He also won the 2001 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
He ends his career out on top, after a Super Bowl 42 Championship. In XLII, he had 1 sack, 3 tackles, and 2 QB hits, as well as being the emotional leader for the team. It is a sad day for Giants fans, who will miss one of the best in the game. He is a probable first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Good luck to Strahan as he moves to the next phase in his life. He is one of the lucky ones who are able to walk away on ther own terms withther health in tact. With that being said, I would not be a happy camper if I was a Giants fan right about now. Yes, I would be grateful for the championship he brought to the Big Apple, but the timing is terrible. We're a few weeks out from training camp and he picks this time to announce his retirement. As a Seahawks fan I am extatic because the loss of Strahan brings the Giants D-Line back down to earth a little bit. This loss opens up the NFC a little bit more. I'm not saying that the Giants will be terrible or even a .500 team, but they will be weakened a little bit. There is depth along that line, so it's not like there is a major void, but Juston Tuck is not Michael Strahan. Good luck in the braocasting business (which I'm sure is your next stop) you buck-toothed superstar. You brought a great deal of lightheartedness and fun to a game that we all love.

I grew up watching and rooting for the Giants. Strahan was part of just about each memory. He was a great person, and it was a great experience to know him. Strahan is among the best Giants in football history, and goes out on top as a Super Bowl XLII Champion. Thanks for your 15 year career in New York, and good luck! You will be missed on and off the field.

Congratulations to Michael Strahan for completing a successful 15-year career with the New York Giants. It's sad to watch you go, but you brought the Giants more than most of the players on that team in its history.

Strahan was the emotional leader of the team, and still performed well on the field. I knew that he wanted to retire on top, at the end of his prime...but I actually though that Michael Strahan would return to the Giants for one final year.

now that is the way you are suppose to leave, not like the way tiki did, and then start to rag on your old team. That is why Micheal have a ring and Tiki dont. I love being a New Yorker!!!!!!!!!!

Besides that blemish he was quite the personality and I would love to see him as an Espn analyst. I honestly think he should have come back this year, but nothing wrong with going out on top. Shame that with all his fanfare Warren Sapp went away without so much as a whisper. That's ridiculous disrespect

Shame that with all his fanfare Warren Sapp went away without so much as a whisper. That's ridiculous disrespect First of all, that sack record counts. Yes, Favre and Strahan have been friends for a while...but can you blame an older QB for going down easy to avoid the pain from a huge lineman towards the end of a game? Anyways, it was a PA bootleg to the left, where Strahan beat the tight end or right end quickly, to get to Favre for 22.5 sacks. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Sapp retired over a month before Strahan did (Sapp on 4/11/200 cool . He went out in a whisper, because his career was declining anyways, and he was inching on. Not because of any other player.
