Pay attention and try your best. Know your music. Stay in step. Roll your feet.

Don't screw around. You're allowed to screw around in marching band/band camp if you know you're music and it's not your first time and can easily get back on track after you screw around.

BRING WATER!!! It's hot down here and lots of people get dehydrated. A freshman passed out last year because of the heat, lol. Our band directors require it too
Bring Water
Be prepared
Don't goof around, there are times where you can, but be serious about band
Practice, get ahead of people so you look like you know what your doing =3 Practice your music and your marching style (and anything else you think you should) . I don't know if it's different where you are but our directors are strict and they like it when you do it right. So if you want to get on their good side, practice and be a good model for others. Make the upperclassmen jealous, but stay away from trash cans when you're alone with them.
Don't lock your knees
always stand up straight (unless you're marching style is different, which would be weird)
Bring sunglasses (we march facing the sun sometimes, I hate it)
Pay attention
Don't be afraid to ask for help. I don't like it when the freshman stand there and don't know what they're doing, and act like they do, but don't talk to their section leaders. And you should listen to your section leaders.
and have fun =)

stickyfeet I'm about to start my first band camp. Any advice for the new kid?(besides " Don't lock your knees") Bring lots of water! you need to hydrate, no gatorade, and dont eat greasy foods, eat healthy, lol. i passed out my sophomore year, so be sure to keep cool, specially if it gets really hot, and wear sunscreen. getting burnt and trying to march is not fun. Dont goof around, wait till the football games start, lol. but be serious, specially if your in your UIL year. if marching band was any easier it'd be called football.

Sunscreen. Sunglasses. Water. Hat. And the number one thing: PATIENCE. Our BD will tell us 1 more time but if you are a true bandie, you know that means 50 million more times.

Obviously don't lock your knees (known from personal experience).
When we roll our feet, our bds tell us to pretend to roll our feet on a tube of toothpaste. You want to roll it nice and even to get some good toothpaste out (but don't actually bring toothpaste to band camp). Plus toes should be high up.
For Trumpets, Mellophones, Trombones, or any other instrument where the bell faces up, keep your head and chin up too. You don't want to change your ombesure (I probably spelled that wrong, sorry) and give yourself a sore neck.
Water is very important. Some bring water packs so that they have it with them all the time.
If you encounter an itching sensation during attention, endure it. keeping in attention is better than having to repeat it a million times because your neck feels itchy.
Listen to your squad leaders all the time, unless their acting a bit stupid which makes you wonder how did they get in anyway?
Be spirited! Otherwise you'll get lazy in performance. I get up 5:45-6:00am in the morning for band practice.
Fav motto: To be early, is to be ON TIME, to be on time is to be LATE, to be late is to be FIRED (maybe not literally but you'll get in trouble).

Bring Sunblock, sunglassed, and a hat if possible. You'll wish you'd have one!

Thanks for the advice, but I won't be in dorms. It's just one of those twelve hour marching camps at my school.
