I've read books that said Japanese verbs always go last , but others tell me different. I am so confused! question Please help me or explain. Thanx! Vampire_Knight_Emi

I'm beginner too but I think verbs always go last. I've always seen it in the last, as least. And the modifier goes before the modified.
昨日小さい犬は川の水を飲みました。 kinou chiisai inu ha kawa no mizu wo nomimashita. 小さい犬は昨日川の水を飲みました。 chiisai inu ha kinou kawa no mizu wo nomimashita. 川の水を小さい犬が昨日飲みました。 kawa no mizu wo chiisai inu ha kinou nomimshita.
(yesteday the little dog drank the river's water)
Edit: Well, I forgot about ne, yo, ka, etc that stuff that come in the end.

Japanese word order is not particularly important-- although it's classified as a SOV language (Subject-object-verb).
Basically, a sentence is always ended by the active verb. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter what order you do things in.
