Is there a Vista combatable version of FFXI? When I try to download what the official FFXI site gives me, it still doesn't work. If there isn't one, does anyone know if there will be one in the future? I miss this game. ;____;

If you're downloading from here:
http://www.playonline.com/homeus/headline/news01.html#ff11
It should work.
Vista is somewhat of a broken windows version. Computer stores stopped selling things with vista because it sucks so much.

I have Vista + FFXI on one of my computers (I usually use XP tho so I'm no expert) but I can confirm it does work. If you're having difficulties you may be doing something incorrectly and it might be worth contacting the POL support centre for some help.

Im using vista, and Im not having any problems with it at all.
Maybe you need to set your options thingy in the program to admin ? (as in if you right click the icon and bring up properties)
that sometimes helps with some programs I have installed if they dont work properly.

Thanks, everyone. I got it up and running now. But the graphics suck really bad. Do I just need a better graphics card, do you think?

FIrstly, have you changed any of the size info or anything like that to fit your monitor size etc etc??
when I first started playing it, it was set too something crappily small like 600x800.. everything was overly pixelated on my monitor and it looked like a big lot of blocked up wood on my screen.. tryin to poke my eyes out..
So check first that your resolution etc, matches the one of your monitor first. If it does match.., then you might need a new graphics card.

The game screen fits the comp. screen right, the pixles are just... a little bigger than they probably should be. Thanks for the info. ^^
Also, another question for all. Sorry. xD Is there a windower download for vista? I thought I found one, but I'm not too good at making it work. So I was just wondering if you guys use it and if it's working alright.

I did a quick search and found this link to windower (not sure if its what your talking about though??) looks interesting. Is it allowed to be used?? Windowerafter a bit of rummaging about it looks like its vista compatible and if you have problems they do have info on their forums on how to make it work properly in vista in their q&A or forums or somewhere.

Strictly speaking - no. Its a third party program which is not allowed according to the game ToS. However most people consider it a "soft" option, since for the most part it merely "fixes" things that SE should have got right in the first place. There've been reports of people being "detected" using it and getting a temporary (24hr) ban as a warning. To be honest though if you simply don't talk about it in chat in game, i.e. don't go into jeuno and start /shouting "I'm using Windower!" its very unlikely that you will be called up for it.

so.... is it bad that I posted that link to windower here? I assume I would have been scolded for doing so by now if it was considererd a very bad thing..
and also, is there any other adds like those above that I can check out? I want to know really if there is anything that is going to make my macro-ing easier to keep track of and to shuffle about - and if possible to keep them up on the screen so I can mouse click away in an emergency rather than having to scroll and sort through them all and waste valuable time.

Eiryn Fox so.... is it bad that I posted that link to windower here? I assume I would have been scolded for doing so by now if it was considererd a very bad thing.. No its not a bad thing. I'd estimate that half of the "dedicated" (i.e. have a job at 75) english-speaking players of ffxi use windower. Its a bit of an open secret. Quote: and also, is there any other adds like those above that I can check out? I want to know really if there is anything that is going to make my macro-ing easier to keep track of and to shuffle about - and if possible to keep them up on the screen so I can mouse click away in an emergency rather than having to scroll and sort through them all and waste valuable time. Wow - mouse click surprised I don't use my mouse to play the game at all >w< I'm not sure what trouble you are having with macros here. Its not necessary to "scroll" through macros unless you have more than 20 (which most people don't - at endgame people tend to have different macro paletes for different events to get round the limited space issue.) If you need to hit a macro just hold down the relevant keys (i.e. ctrl + 2 or alt + 0) to execute it. If you arrange your macros tidily you won't have any problems remembering where they are. tip The macro that appears on every single one of my palettes is Ctrl+0: /ta Its a really simple macro for targeting the current battle target (i.e. the mob whose name is in red) This macro will allow you to target the mob as the puller brings it into camp without tabbing through all the other mobs/players in the area and risking accidentally casting dia on the wrong thing (opps). Be aware that this macro doesn't work for alliance-held mobs whose name is in pink (even tho you can still attack it - when are SE going to rectify this? D: ), and it can go wonky if you have two red mobs in camp.
Oh and to answer the actual question >.< I don't know of any other plug ins except those provided by windower. Perhaps you can request that they make a plugin like you have suggested, or even try to develop it yourself biggrin
