Marvel / DC - Earth #629The Avengers Initiative WARNING!! Severe Reading Ahead! Who This RP Is For::Comic Book Geeks... you know who you are. Come, enjoy yourselves and relish in the company of your kindred. The kind of people who read the Marvel vs DC crossover event and thought "they could have done this better" or "why didn't Iron Man and Steel fight?" or "Isn't Superman better matched against Gladiator or Hyperion?" or especially "I don't think Wolverine could have beaten Lobo like that..." Players who formulate theories on how events might have gone with a different character involved, and follow that train of thought through to the end. Open minded literate-adv. literate RPers willing to help other RPers improve and contribute meaningfully to the community. Open minded semi-lit RPers who are interested in improving while having fun playing a source they enjoy. Intense thought-provoking Mary-Sue Free fan-fic writers who are looking for an outlet, or inspiration for their next story or character. Creative and thoughtful players who have interesting ideas that they are willing to share. Players who have played (or are playing) in Pandangel Projects before this one, and know the kind of quality RP that we provide. Players who are fans of a character, not what the character has done. The type of player who looks at an inter-action and says "I understand that" not just "oh, that was cool!" Who This RP Is NOT For::Elitist RPers who would rather demand a novel out of other players rather than help them grow and find a comprimise. Mary-Sue players, meaning: Self-insertions, Characters that can't function if they aren't connected heavily to another character, Characters that make canon characters obsolete or overshadowed, etc Players who are unwilling to help other players, or contribute to the community of the RP. Especially if those players are then going to gripe about the RP not going in a way they'd like. Obsessive and argumentative fans... if you think a character belongs to you, and it will upset you to see them played by or playing with someone else... you may want to pass this RP up rather than argue with our crew about your rights over a character. People who are unreasonably opposed to the Source Content, Crossovers of the content in general, or Pandangel Projects/Crew. Our Goals As An RP::To create a deep and expanded plotline based on but not limited by the source content. Think of this RP as an "Ultimate Earth 2" kind of setting where all the histories have been adjusted giving you a blank slate for your character. To provide this deep and expanded plotline while keeping the fun aspect of the source material, and not demand that any player be asked to take things too seriously. To use thought and discussion and theories to build upon the established universe without being limited to it. Playing characters from the inside, rather than the outside... asking why and/or how a character does something, instead of just limiting ourselves to what we've seen them do. To allow people to have fun playing as their favorite costumed super guy or girl... To save the world.... hopefully a lot. It's kind of what they do, after all. I mean if they didn't, it would kind of be like having a Gundam RP where nobody's allowed to play in a robot. Or a Star Wars RP where you can't leave Tatooine... definitely not Bat-tastic. To develop an environment that will be both a fun RP as well as a place to grow as an RPer. This should really be the goal of any RP. We really want the best players we can have, who are willing to help other players become as good as them. And, as always... to grow as a Bat-tastic environment that shares many fond memories and delicious cake. Cake is not a lie! Rules:: This is what we at Pandangel RP like to call the "Don't Be A Douche-hat" rule. This is all the stuff that really really shouldn't have to be stated. Every RP on Gaia has these rules. Don't godmode, don't metagame, don't harass players, don't violate TOS, keep your posts clean of mature content... basically don't be a douche-hat. If you feel that somebody else is godmoding or harassing you or whatever, let a Crew know about it via PM with the page number it occurred on and the user who did it. Special Note: (as a site-mod, Alex asks that I double-emphasize this) If I think you're doing something in my RP that's violating TOS then you'll be out of here faster than a speeding bullet.
Read everything on the first page relevant to the RP before applying for the roleplay. Yes it's a lot to read, but this is a LITERATE roleplay, and if you can't even read this much information, you will not do well in Pandangel Roleplays. Things go quickly, plots change in single scenes, and we do not want to recap anyone just because they don't feel like reading 2-3 pages.
There are only so many Kryptonians left, but everybody wants X-Ray vision. Pretend you have it here, and highlight stuff that seems paculiarly empty, why don't ya?
Do not roleplay on the OOC thread!! Unless it's silly fun OOC play, but nothing plot affecting.
If your head comes away from your neck, then it's over! Your first time sending in a character application should be titled 'Kurgan'. In the end, there can be only one!
You must apply characters using the forms in the next post. We do not accept beggars for roles ("Can I be___plz!", etc). Begging gives one warning. Two warnings puts you on blacklist from participating. And yes, you must have a profile for your created character.
Source Character Limit at this time is 10, Monk's favorite number. There are so many canon characters that there should be more than enough to go around. For createds: You may create as many as you like, but make sure you use them! If you can't handle that many characters, just play what you can handle.
Uphold the Public Trust. Make yourself known, and say hello to us on the OOC board before you apply a character. Any attempt to harm a senior officer of OCP results in immediate shutdown.
If for some reason you cannot or are unwilling to continue a scene within a span of 3 days at most (if you must take a leave of absence, or will not have internet access for a while, or just have horrendous writer's block), please notify one of the staff via PM or posting here and one of the following will occur: a. Your character will be skipped for the turn, or at your advance request removed from the scene entirely. b. Your character will be temp-posted by a Crew of your choosing until you are able to resume the role. If you do not provide notice and your absence reaches more than two weeks, we will assume you quit the roleplay and the character will be handed to the next acceptable application or be removed from play in the case of created characters.
Also, one of our goals is to encourage players to play a character from the inside, not the out. That means think about why a character has done the actions we've seen them do before, and not what we've seen them do before. While I strive to remain true to source, if we're just playing the same events we saw in the comics or cartoons... that'd get pretty boring. So really try to get inside a character so that they will be able to grow and adapt with the game as it goes. I say this as a rule because I also don't want people to b***h to me if through the course of RP our Flash marries Wonder Woman, or Lex Luthor decides he wants his very own boy band featuring Wolverine as the soprano singer, or Spider-man attends group therapy with some of his villains to get them to stop trying to kill him all the time... or even something really out there like Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic suddenly decide to corrall metahumans into Concentration Camps like Nazis and put events into motion that get Captain America shot in the.... oh... wait... stare . Alright, so if you've lasted this long and this sounds like an RP you'd like to be a part of, hopefully you're still interested enough to read through the rest of this. This discussion/recruitment thread is for just that... discussing and recruiting before (and after) we begin roleplay. We want input and theories that can be developed into plots for the RP. As all sources in this roleplay are finished series, we can build upon the canonical histories without fear of disproven theories by later releases of manga issues. Feel free to be as wild and creative (within reason) when tossing out your plans! As with all Pandangel Projects, we run in Story-Arcs... this RP will begin with the first Story Arc, and the events that unfold will help develop the second Story Arc and that will develop into the Third Arc, etc. Meaning (potentially) you, our players, are just as responsible for helping forge plotlines and events as our hosts are. Unlike some other RP Hosts... you know who you are... we don't make very many demands on the way events unfold. The Unofficial Rules! More advice than actual rules. There are certain things that we're looking for in players. One such thing is villain-players that are capable of both working with the crew to guide storylines as well as plotting things on their own. It would be really nice to have a Lex Luthor coming up with his own plots to foil Superman without my having to guide him. Yet, at the same time, I will need players to be willing to help set certain plots in motion. Secondly, and probably even more importantly, we'll be looking for teams that actually work together. So make sure you can get along with the other players on your team (this is more important OOC than IC) before your character signs up for a team. Thank you, hopefully I haven't scared you off or bored you. sweatdrop If I haven't, here's what you have to look forward to: Table of Contents::Post 1 = Introduction / Rules Post 2 = Story Post 3 = Characters, Teams & Players Post 4 = Canon Character Application Post 5 = Created Character Application Post 6 = RP Challenges for Application Process Post 7 = Announcements, Good List and Bad List Crew::Pandangel Lord M - as it says, lord of all things Pandangel Humorless Harlequinn - heart 's Thor Dream of Ash and Snow - A girl... or so she claims...

Story:: During World War II, the hero known as Captain America gathered together the first group of super-powered individuals. Calling themselves "The Invaders" they were responsible for turning the tide in what was proving to be a costly war on all sides. During a secret mission near the close of the war, Captain America and the Invaders were sent to a secret Arctic Lab on a tip that the Nazis were developping a weapon that may have been capable of overwhelming the allies. The mission put them up against a host of engineered metahumans created by the Nazi regime. Captain America was thought to have been killed during the battle. His body was never found, but his shield was later recoverred by an expedition during the 1960's. After World War II, the surviving members of the Invaders formed the organization known as the Justice Society. A secret society dedicated to the education and training of super human individuals in the hopes of using their combined powers for the betterment of mankind. At the core was a publicly known team of super humans, several of whom had been part of the Invaders. Deeming the name Invaders too threatening and misleading for their cause, they decided to call themselves "The Avengers". As membership of the Justice Society grew, so too did their roster of active teams. Eventually, they society became known as the Justice League. A League of Superhuman teams with the Avengers as their Flagship. Few people are aware that many of the active teams were linked under the continued secret society in the legacy of the Justice Society. One such individual was General Nick Fury, commander of SHIELD, and by all accounts... a man that doesn't exist. Though originally founded in the United States, the organization has grown beyond any national border. The purpose of SHIELD is the protection of human life and liberty on the planet Earth, though the methods they employ to this end are more often questionable than not. As Lois Lane of the Daily Planet is quoted: "SHIELD, if they do exist, is the lock that keeps the Bogeyman in the closet." Under the sanction of SHIELD, a team of superpowered humans hand-picked by Nick Fury are combined into a team known as Force Works. Aside from protecting the world from maniacs and despots... their underlying code was to keep the secret society known as the Justice League in check. War, however, can make for strange bedfellows. When the Mutant extremist known as Magneto started the Genetics War, the teams that comprise the Justice League as well as Force Works worked along side one another, as well as several independant metas that fought on either side. One such independant was a young Avengers hopeful who had made a name for himself in Metropolis. The press had dubbed him "Superman". The war ended with a confrontation between Superman and Magneto, the official story being that Superman was responsible for the death of the tyrant. Only a select few individuals know the truth of the matter. SHIELD used the war as an opportunity to gather genetic material of several metahumans both "loyal" and "non-loyal" to their organization. With this material attempts were made to clone or alter existing subjects in hopes of having a weapon to use against the original... After the Genetics War, Superman was a hero and named a member of the Avengers. As his popularity began to soar, he was eventually named leader of the Avengers, becoming the youngest hero ever in charge of the Justice League. His popularity would come crashing down, however, when it became public knowledge that his powers were not the result of an experiment or mutation, but because of his alien origin. The world may have been ready to accept a mutant in such a position of power, but when the League stood by an alien as their leader their loyalty came under question by those who knew of their existance. Tensions are high between the League and SHIELD, with both sides fighting a heated battle of public oppinion. Both sides believe themselves to be the legacy envisioned by Captain America... perhaps only the man himself would have been able to tell for sure. Violence between the two organizations is not unheard of, but so far has been kept under control. A single spark, however, could ignite a vicious rivalry and cause it to explode into an all out civil war... Or worse yet, forces from outside both organizations may seek to use a divided front to conquer what they could not if the two groups were to stand together...

Characters by group::Characters with names in italics are non-canon characters created for this RP. Characters with names in violet are characters we need very very soon. Characters with names in orange are roles that will be needed soon, but not as soon as violet names. Characters with names in bold are vital and will require the most impressive of applications. Teams with their names in green will only take in Canon characters at this time. As the RP progresses, this may change. NOTE:: Hopefully you'll understand that this list will not be a complete list of all characters available from both sets of canon, as that list would probably contain damn near 1000 characters... I'll list anybody taken, and as many of the more popular names as I can think of. But anybody from Marvel or DC is available for play if you talk it through with me and come up with a way to fit them in. NOTE 2:: Characters that do not have players are not listed under any teams in most cases. That's because I want the player to decide where they want their character to fall. The unplayed characters that are placed under a team name are usually because they're the team-leader of that team or because the crew believe it important that they go there. NOTE 3:: Teams will have pre-set member limits in most cases. Should the need arise more teams can be created that are aligned to the Justice League or to SHIELD, or even teams that are independant of either group. Listed ahead of time were the ones I felt most important to get active first. TeamCharacter - Played By The Justice League: Avengers (7 Member Limit at any given time) Superman - Pandangel Lord M Martian Manhunter - Dream of Ash and Snow Justice League: Excalibur(12 member limit at any given time) Captain Britain Justice League: Alpha FlightGuardian (Vindicator / Weapon Alpha) ( The Marvel guy gets first dibs on the name "Guardian" unless he'd rather use another of the hero's aliases because nobody remembers the DC Guardian except die-hard Superboy fans...) Professor Xavier - Unavailable (crew only) Nightwing - Pandangel Lord M Jean Gray (Phoenix / Marvel Girl) - Mysteriana Angel - Pandangel Lord M Venom - Pandangel Lord M Superboy - Pandangel Lord M Raven - ~Alechsa~ Rogue - ~Alechsa~ SHIELD: Force WorksIron Man - Dream of Ash and Snow SHIELD: Weapon XFantastic FourMr. Fantastic Invisible Woman Human Torch The Thing - Humorless Harlequin The Brotherhood / Acolytes (The Brotherhood are any followers of Magneto. Canon Character Application::Anybody unfamiliar with Pandangel RPs... this is our basic "Who-Why-What-How" application. Who is it that you want to play? Why do you want to play them specifically? What do you know about the character? How will you intend on playing them? Explaination:Character Name: (Obviously applications for "That guy in the bat suit?" aren't going to be approved. The first thing I check for is to make sure you actually know the character's name) Why Them: (Tell us what about this character makes you want to play them with us? Why are you driven to this specific character? Why should we choose you to play them over any/all other applications for the character?) Background: (Tell us everything you know about the character. I don't want to see a copy of the Wikipedia article, either, and I will check. Tell me everything you think is relevant to their character as you want to play them. Hopefully this shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 paragraphs... don't feel pressured to write me a novel about them. Make sure to mention what team you want them affiliated with. The JLA will cap out at 7 members, but probably have a rotating roster.) RP Challenge: (you must respond to at least 2 of the RP challenge posts that will be listed in Post 6 if this is your first character. This is because that we feel a response helps us gauge better how you play than a solo-post or a sample of something you've posted previously. After you are approved for your first character, you only need to show one RP challenge for each additional character) SPECIAL NOTE:: Extra Freedom! What's that mean? Well, because this is a completely new universe you have a bit more breathing room in the application of a character. Say you really like some aspects of the version of Wolverine portrayed in the movies as well as Ultimate Wolverine? Go ahead and mix 'em up to give me a new Wolverine. If I like the way you present it, you might even be able to convince me to let you change the gender of a character... who says Juggernaut has to be a dude? But if you're making these changes to the character, make note of it in your "Background" portion... I want to make sure that you at least know the canon, after all. 3nodding Here Is The Code For You:: Character Name: Why Them: Background: RP Challenge:
Here Is An Example Of A Completed Form:: Example of an Acceptable App Character Name:Edward "Eddie" Brock, Jr. AKA "Venom" Why Them:Because Eddie has always been my favorite thing to come out of the Spiderman Franchise. A lot of people cite his weak motivations for his hatred, and in a lot of respects they are weak. But when you really delve into his character, you realize that they're supposed to be. They aren't motivations, they're excuses. Eddie just really likes the power that the symbiote gives him, and the freedom to act on that power. Combine this spirit with the somewhat contradictory sense of honor that Eddie has. Eddie has one of the deepest personal codes of any bad guy. However, I think what really drives me to his character is his code of "Let the punishment exceed the crime". When dealing with most superheroes, the worst a criminal is afraid of is "oh, I might get caught". With somebody like Venom, they have to think "if I do this to somebody who doesn't deserve it, then somebody else will do something worse to me". He's kharma in it's darkest form. I enjoy playing him, because if you take the right aspects from each interpretation of him then you can get an experience that a lot of other characters don't offer you. I believe that my interpretation of him is unique amongst other players of the character. Background:In the standard universe, Eddie's symbiote came back with Peter Parker after the secret wars and was in fact Spiderman's costume for a while. In this universe the symbiote was one of several that were collected by STAR Labs and worked on in secret. Two of the scientists working on them were the parents of Peter Parker and Eddie Brock. After Parker died, Brock continued the project on his own, attempting to develop the lifeform for it's military capabilities. When a dying symbiote escaped the facility it's lifespan was extended by bonding with Peter Parker, also known as Spiderman. When that symbiote began to take from Peter's own vital functions to survive, however, he ditched the suit at Star Labs where it was quickly devoured by one of it's siblings. The sibling would grow stronger from the absorbing of another of it's kind. The same night, it too would be bonded to a life form... Eddie Brock. Though older than Parker, Eddie had spent a lot of his life in the younger teen's shadow. His own father would accept nothing short of perfection, both in accademics and physical persuits. When he was younger, Eddie's father would lock him in a closet if he brought home a B on a report card. Beatings were not uncommon for lesser grades. If there were two things Eddie did excell at, however, they were sports and journalism. Of course the fact that Parker seemed to be even better at Journalism meant the only thing he had for himself was sports. Through a series of events, Eddie became aware of Parker's secret life as Spiderman. This only further enfuriated Brock, as things seemed to just fall into Parker's lap. Including the affections of both Mary Jane Watson, and Gwen Stacy the girl Brock had crushed on for years. The realizations and the pressures at home were too much for Brock and he had decided to end his life. Being a Catholic he went to church to plead for forgiveness and guidance through prayer. Feeling his prayers unanswered he made his way to his father's place of work. His original plan had been to break in and end his life in his father's work station so that his dead body could be one last act of revenge. His plans changed however when the black lifeform bonded to him... The rest is history... RP Challenge:This is where I'd put responses to the challenges found on post 6 of this page. However, to save room I will not attempt to prove my ability to play to myself... o.o

Character Creation::This application will be a little more in depth, because we'll want to have an idea what you're throwing at us before we let them play with the rest of the kids. Keep in mind that creativity is key and what we look for most. So be creative, be original, and have fun as you try to come up with all of this information. The only seriously concrete rules about this are as follows: Don't violate any established history. Meaning if something has been revealed in the RP, you can't undo it with your background. If you're not sure, talk to the crew.
Don't heavily include any other characters in your history without the permission of the player of that character. If your character has always crushed on Wonder Woman... that's fine. If your character is the father of her unborn child... you should probably have spoken with her player. Explanation::Name (& Alter Ego): (It would be extremely discrediting if you didn't know what your own created character was called... also tell us what, if anything, they go by in addition to their given name.) Age: (How old are they?) Alignment: (What team are you attempting to put them with, if any) Powers or Abilities: (9 out of 10 superheroes have something that makes them super... what's your guy got? If possible try to give a classification level for certain powers. Like don't just say super-strength... give me an idea of what kind of strength level you mean. Captain America strong? Spider-man strong? Hulk strong? Same with speed and invulnerability and the like.) Special Training: (Do they have any special training on top of, or in the place of superhuman powers? Any kind of training you think I should know about. I don't care if the guy was a boyscout, but I do care if he was a Black-Ops infiltration expert...) Physical Description/Picture: (Give us an idea what they look like via picture or description.) Background: (Who are they? Where do they come from? Why are they good or evil? Give me a couple paragraphs letting me know a bit about them.) RP Challenge: (An RP challenge response goes here. Look down one post from this one to see what you should respond to) Here Is The Code For You:: Name (& Alter Ego): Age: Alignment: Powers or Abilities: Special Training: Physical Description/Picture: Background: RP Challenge: Hers Is An Example Of A Completed Form:: Example of an Acceptable App Name (& Alter Ego):Malcolm Thomas Vane AKA "Amp" Age:19 Alignment:Would-be member of the Brotherhood Powers or Abilities:Amp has the ability to manipulate, control, and lend concussive force to the vibrations of soundwaves. To do so, he must have a continuous source of sound to manipulate, however. Either the sound generated from his headphones or from nearby sources. Technically, his powers extend over all soundwaves, but to accurately control it, Malcolm is uncomfortable trying to manipulate any sounds outside of his range of hearing. Special Training:Learned how to hotwire cars when he was fourteen. Physical Description/Picture: For now I'm using a picture of Ichigo from Bleach as the most suited image I was able to find until I can draw/scan one of my own. Malcolm is a young man in his late teens of average build. Unlike the image presented, Malcolm is typically composed of a deceptively serene calm with a warm and almost gentle smile upon his face. His style of dress is best classified by the early "Grunge" look, with oversized clothes layered over one another. He is never without a pair of headphones present, either over his ears, behind his ears or around his neck - as pictured. Background:Malcolm's story is the same as that of a lot of mutant children. Though never the most popular kid in school, he lived a perfectly happy life until his powers began to develop around puberty. At which time, the fear of judgement by his peers caused him to draw inward and his relationships with friends began to fall apart, largely due to his own nervousness at being found out by them. From early on after discovering himself, he began to obsess with famous figures in mutant history. But none moreso than the figure of Erik Lensherr. Magneto. His actual fears of being confronted about his nature became cloaked in a closetted pride of who he was, and a rebellious spirit began to develop explosively as he began to completely close off from those he knew. When he was sixteen, he outed himself to his parents and ran away without even giving them the chance to accept him. As far as he was concerned his culture was too different to be a part of the family or community he knew any longer. He began to fall in with mutant crowds, the more extremist, the better, and over time started preaching the will of Magneto in an almost cult-like fashion. A natural charisma and presence made others willing to follow him, particularly if their upbringing had been more harsh than his own. Malcolm believes his powers, and the free use of them, are his by right. Although he only advocates violence against those who would try to try to be violent towards his kind, he has been known to use terms such as "flatscan" to describe non-powered individuals, and thinks less of anyone who gained their powers by accident or experiment. In his mind, it is divine mandate that anybody meant to have power would be born with it, not get it artificially. RP Challenge:This is where responses to the challenges you'll find in the next post would go. However, to save room, I'm going to refrain from proving myself to... myself...

The RP Challenges::So what is an RP Challenge, you ask? Go ahead. Ask. It makes me feel better to answer, that way. Well, you know how most RPs ask you to submit a sample post before you join? Often they'll ask you to write out a solo post... or show a sample of your writing. Well, we found that mathod to be a poor means of judging one's skill as an RPer. Why is that? Well, think about it. RP skill comes from being able to read, interpret, and respond in detail to something posted by somebody else. Often times, however, even the best RPers will feel uncomfortable having to intro themselves to a scene or especially to write something stand-alone. Likewise, the greatest writers in the world aren't necessarily the best RPers. So, we developped the RP challenges. 6 posts, you choose at least 2 the first time you apply a character, and respond to them with the character you are applying. Responses should be at least a paragraph or two, but you're probably pushing it if you hit like five paragraphs. You don't need to feel pressured to write a novel. The challenges are divided into the 3 primary categories of RP. Action, Social and Romance. Action is the fights, Social is the common interaction, and Romance is well... the gooshy stuff. I don't care what anybody says, every RP needs at least some amount of all three of these things to survive. You pick at least two that you feel show off your best attributes as a player. You may respond to more if you feel like it. The Challenges are intended to be written in such a way that the applicant could be responding to anybody they desire. In some cases it's more specific than others, pin-pointing at least a set of powers. But the applicant can elect to change the genders or descriptions of the post they are responding to. As long as the response is still in the spirit of the challenge. So here they are. The Challenges:Challenge Post 1: Action He ducked back and dodged away from the strike thrown at him just as the flash-bang he'd thrown earlier had gone off beneath him and his opponent. Hopefully that was distraction enough. Going into this line of work without powers was going into this line of work with a confirmed handicap, one that his opponent seemed more than willing to make use of.
Of course, he had one advantage for which no amount of power could make up. Training. He'd learned from the best and his instincts, and his sense of environment were better than most. If he was going to win this, he'd have to keep moving. That much, he knew. As he was in mid-back-jump he flipped and tossed a few small concussive explosives at his enemy, or rather into the bright flash he'd known as his enemy's last known location. The bursts wouldn't have been strong enough to cause any fatal damage, he didn't work that way, but hopefully they'd make his enemy think better of this fight.
In the long run, what his instincts were telling him was that he couldn't win. That's why he was hoping his enemy couldn't hear the supersonic signal that was calling for back-up while he bought himself some time... There's two sides of every battle. Winners and losers. Eventually you're going to find yourself on both sides. In this post, the applicant is obviously at an advantage. The post clearly shows a character who could be at the mercy of a more powerful character. So, how do you handle being on top? It's an important test of character.Challenge Post 2: Social This was where history was decided. Though they called themselves the "League" now, the walls were still adorned with the title of "Justice Society". He'd always felt that name was more appropriate anyhow. League suggested something more open and competative. They were a society. It made more sense. Nobody ever called anything a "Secret League" after all. Technically, the term still stood. The League was considerred the the Superhero Teams and operations that acted under the guidance of the Society. While the Society was the body of the organization as a whole. There was more to it than just the guys in tights fighting space monsters, after all.
Representatives of all the teams who opperated under the banner of the "Justice League" met here often to change the fate of the world by assigning it's powers where the League deemed them most fit. Not all of the league's teams operated in the open, some were fairly covert. Some were large national operations, some barely managed an area the size of a town. None, however, were as open or operated on as wide a scale as the Avengers. As such, only the most skilled, noble and righteous heroes were assigned to be one of the "Big Seven". It was just one of the honors that being a member of the A-list offered you.
When he was younger, first initiated into the Society, he'd dreamt of being part of the Avengers. Now that his dream was realized, it was admittedly surreal. It wasn't like people gawked at him when he was here, and he'd never been asked for his autograph by another Society member, but there was an aura about the A-list that he tried not to let go to his head. If he wanted to make a change, he had more pull than he believed he'd earned in doing so. But now it was that very influence he detested that he was trying to use as he spoke. He placed his hand on the shoulder of the other hero, "I just don't think you're ready to take his seat on the Avengers. The things we deal with aren't like you're used to yet," he seemed to have a tone of condolance, "Maybe when you have more experience."
The truth was a little more selfish. He just didn't like them. The two of them had never really gotten along, and he didn't feel like they could work together. No synergy. Besides, now that he was part of the Avengers, he covetted the position of Shield-Holder. A rival in the ranks lowered his chances of getting it. Of course, only the Shield-Holder could officially deny their request to take the seat of the hero that had left the Avengers. But, there was that influence. If an Avenger told you you weren't ready... it counted for something... Normally, I try to use a fishing post as my first Social challenge. A fishing post is a post a player will put out of a character in a clear social setting to try and get interaction from other characters. It's sort of the pre-requisite for an intro. This post, however, implies that the two characters have been engaged in a conversation for at least a moment as well as the two characters apparently knowing one another. I don't really have anything particular to say about it, but it should be noted that Social interaction is kind of the main chunk of RP. Fighting and Loveydovey... neither of them happen without the social stuff going on between.Challenge Post 3: Romance The night was clear and the moon was large in the sky. From this high up, you could actually see the stars without the light of the city getting in the way, turning what was rightfully nighttime into just another rust colored afternoon. It was something he missed about time spent in the country as he reminisced. He found himself lost in thought, moving on autopilot all the way back to his penthouse. Had he seen them there, he might have just kept on moving... pretend like they were standing at the wrong place. But, he hadn't seen them until he landed on the roof and met their eyes staring right back into his own. Forget the moon...
If they were here, that meant they probably knew. But he still didn't make any moves to unmask himself and responded to their presence with a weak, "What are you doing here?" trying his best to sound like he didn't know who they were. He failed, he could never forget the person in front of him. Not after the other night. Quickly he recoverred with a turn of his head, if he didn't see those deep eyes then he could pretend he was lying to somebody else, "I don't know what you think you know... but..." the words, the right words, were still so hard to find. He knew all the words to send them away, make them never want to come back. But not this time. He couldn't bear to do that again. He couldn't bear to do that with this one. "It's..." whatever words were supposed to come, it was obvious that they weren't. The ball was no longer in his court... time to face the music... As always, I'm going to say that I'm sorry. I kind of suck at romance posts. This is set up so that it could go either way... maybe he's getting a warm embrace, maybe he's getting slapped. Romance shouldn't always be the happy easy stuff, it's more satisfying to the players if they have to kind of work for it. So how does the other party respond here?Challenge Post 4: Action The Savage Land. A region of the Antarctic that had been lost to time since the Mesozoic era. A lush tropical jungle in the middle of a frozen wasteland. It had several unique properties that had yet to be fully studied by the few minds that knew of the place's existance. Amongst those properties was the odd fact that the Savage Land seemed to sap the super-human powers of those who were normally gifted with them. Mutants, aliens, metas... everybody was, for better or worse... normal here.
So it was no doubt confusing that she was floating above the ground, with her eyes glowing the same ruby shade of fire red that her lips had been painted. For the third time she'd come in like a blur and deliverred a punch that felt like it had been deliverred from a speeding truck. Even worse, she was holding back. She'd made it a very clear point to demonstrate that she was. After the third strike she appeared behind her so-called enemy once more, laughing as she slapped them to the ground, "This land is ours, now!" she purred, letting herself float back to the ground like a feather on a gentle summer's breeze, "Kneel before it's king," she gestured towards her master before the crimson glow of her eyes burst forth in two fine beams of solar heat directed at her enemy's legs. Remember when I said there's two sides? Well, now the applicant is very clearly on the losing side. This might even be a little unfair. The applicant is told that their character's powers have been removed for this fight, and they're obviously up against a Kryptonian. I might not get too many responses for this one... *laughs* not many people like a fight that's this one-sided.Challenge Post 5: Social Even a legend needed some time off. Besides, it had been longer than any red blooded American should go without sitting in the stands and watching the great American pass-time. The sites were different, of course. Ebbets Field had apparently been torn down in the 60's, and his team had been blasphemously moved to Los Angeles of all places. He couldn't really relive his memories of childhood. Not the nostalgia, anyhow. But it didn't matter, in the long run.
He could go to a game anywhere in the world and he'd recapture something of the experience. The feel was the same, no matter where he was. The charge of the crowd, the smell of popcorn, an overpriced cold beer in cheap cup and a hot dog smothered in mustard, relish and onions. There was an energy here, that reminded him of who he was. Where he was from. Besides, if he closed his eyes and blocked out the names spoken over the loudspeaker... he could just listen to the cheering, the boos, the crack of the bat against the ball. Any park could suddenly be Ebbets Field again. Any team could suddenly be the Dodgers.
A grin like a child's was on his face as he bumped into somebody and appologized. He carried himself like somebody would have sixty years ago. Very polite. Very pleasant. Just what one would expect from the so-called "Greatest Generation". He turned with some embarassment to his companion, "You didn't have to come with me, you know," he reminded them as he took another step closer to the hot dog vender, the line moving uncomfortably slow. "I don't even know these teams," he confessed, "Are you a fan?" he finally got to the point of the question as he orderred his hot dog. Had they come because they were in the same boat as him? Somebody who just loved the game? Or were they here because they felt a need to keep a man out of time company? Who doesn't wanna go to a ballgame with Captain America? This could be a fishing post, because the way it's stated his companion may have just met him there. Or it could be a continuation of two players that have been on their way to the ballgame for a couple of turns. In all honesty, as important as social rp is for the rp's survival, scenes like this probably wouldn't be too common. After a few turns it needs to be either skipped or interupted. Not because of questionable content, but because it would probably get a little boring. Still, they can be a good tool to use when you need a safe way to reveal some plot information. "Steve, I'm pregnant," or "Steve, I am your father," or "Steve, I hate the Yankees," or even the all popular, "Steve, Tony's gonna get your a** capped..."
Also they can be a good way for a group of good-guy characters to fish for a bad-guy or two to come and start some stuff. Think about it, Steve Rogers and Clark Kent taking in a baseball game? If Lex Luthor doesn't send a giant robot to stomp around somewhere near there then the world isn't right.Challenge Post 6: Romance "You could do me the favor of not lying to me," she hissed venomously through clenched teeth. The tears running down over her mask seemed almost comical, but she wasn't concerned about them. She wasn't even certain, herself, if she was up to actually listening to whatever the excuse might have been for what she could only count as a blatant betrayal. But, let it not be said she wasn't a woman of fairness, "Did you think I wouldn't find out? So I'm stupid?"
Perhaps not fairness, then. She continuously phrased each of her questions so that there was no safe way to answer them. It was the pride and fault of her gender, but even if she didn't intend to phrase them as such traps, she made no appologies for it. Deep breaths turned into heavy growls, "She was my best friend! And she..." she paused, biting her tongue for a second, her breath clearly held as if she were suddenly trying to breathe under water, "And you just..." obviously she was in pain at the thought of what had happened. But she'd made no attempts to hide that, either, "Does it even matter you?!" she screamed, this time louder than anything she'd said before. What pain might have been there exploding as anger.
"Give me one reason why I shouldn't tear you apart!" Finally what it came down to... there is no fury like that of a woman scorned. Especially when that woman has the power to tear a battleship in half... My motto on romance interaction is that it's essentially the same as action interaction. Except romance is metaphorical and emotional as opposed to literal and physical. In this case, the applicant is placed in the position of "losing" in the romance scene. They're placed on the defensive against a very hurt, very angry... apparently very powerful woman. The wrong choice of words could turn this into an action scene, as well.
