Ferris WheelWhat would any carnival be without the trademark ferris wheel? Reaching high into the sky, there are enough small booths to fit countless people, or just pairs if couples wish for a romantic ride and view of the carnival. Decorated with festive lights on every metal beam, it is definitely a bright and multicolored highlight of the carnival, lighting up the night sky, as well as one of the best classics. A friendly old man runs it, giving knowing looks to any pair that enters, and encouraging smiles to the younger children.
CarouselDon't feel like going up high, but still want a ride? Try out the carousel, run by a middle aged woman that looks like she'd rather be elsewhere, and find your favorite animal as a mount. With seats ranging from ornate and stationary benches, to slowly rising-and-falling lions, tigers and bears, oh my! All decked out in festival finery with jingling reins to hold onto, it is endless fun as you circled around and around.
Flying SwingsFor those that want a near sensation of flying, but not quite the same thing, there's always the swing carousel; countless plastic swings hanging down from rubber wrapped chains, that lift up and away as the ride starts to spin to the controls of a handsome young man who appears to know what he's doing, at least when he isn't admiring the women nearby. More lights hang from the ride, as well as wrapping around the chains to end just above the riders head, giving them a pleasant glow from above.
Swinging Pirate ShipWant the thrill of being
almost upside down, and seeing yourself essentially fall towards the ground? Then give this rustic pirate ship called the
Sea Maiden a go! Rows and rows of seats are on the main deck of the ship, all facing to the bow of the ship decorated with a buxom blonde mermaid, while giant gears rotate back and forth, causing it to slowly swing backwards and forwards. Just be careful not to have anything loose, or it just might fall on the two college girls running the ride.
Gold RushWhat festival wouldn't be complete without a roller coaster or two? Take a rush on this mining venture, as you sit in comfortable metal carts that rocket through tunnels, lit by hanging lanterns and sparkles of fool's gold. Be careful, there might be a cave in during your visit! Run by an elderly couple, they're there to make sure you enjoy the ride.
Haunted HouseFor those who don't want to have their feet leave the ground, there is always the haunted house. Full of ghouls, goblins, skeletons and several other monstrosities that lurk in the night, it is a walk-around path that loops over and around itself inside a large wood building. Be careful not to scream, you just might bump into the large team of people that run it!
Sky RideNot so much for the mining adventure? Try out the Sky Ride, a roller coaster that takes you out in the open air, up and down and around in dizzying circles while riding "on" the back of a large, cheerful green dragon. While the reptile considerately refrains from going upside down, it's sure to make it's riders quite dizzy. There are two teenage attendants, both the boy and girl equipped with bags should your stomach lose it's contents, and helping hands for those that stumble.
Bumper CarsThe golden oldies, who could pass up bumper cars? Twenty cars lie around and about the magnetized metal floor, closed in by wood fences that only drivers are allowed in, the cars are all decorated with fancy pin stripes and racing patterns, small flags sticking up from long antennae. Careful not to hit the edge of the ring! They're lined with tires, but it still causes quite a hit to go into them. A bored looking older man runs it, his nose in his fat novel more then not.
House of MirrorsSee how well you can find yourself in the House of Mirrors. Every wall inside this mini mansion is covered in reflective surfaces; normal mirrors, ones that make you look large, others like a dwarf. You'll have no end of amusement seeing yourself mirrored back to you, but see how easily you can find your way
out! Several teenagers run around the hallways, making sure no one gets too lost.
Boat RideWant a simple, relaxing boat ride, maybe with a lover, or just a time to enjoy viewing the carnival with a friend? Give these small but comfortable boats a try, you'll be happy you did. Cushioned boats looking like short gondolas, no rowing or paddling is required as there is a weak current running through the water, guaranteeing a splash free and relaxing ride. The dock is run by a portly looking man sporting an eye patch, his much-read newspaper in his belt.
Hedge MazeAn outdoor maze with walls of neatly trimmed bushes, it borders along the inside of one of the fences, taking up several hundred square feet. For the adventurous sorts, it is definately a puzzle worth trying, with several entrances and exits, and a few teenagers scattered here and there in the maze with the knowledge of the closest exit, but only for those who have completely given up.
Dance SquareWant to just sit down, talk, and dance? There is a large platform near the food area, with benches and tables scattered all around, with music playing from speakers attached to the lamp poles. A large variety of music is playing, and one only has to ask the DJ, whose table is a few feet from the dance floor, for a specific song or genre and he will oblige.
Laughter's HomeThis miniature amphitheater is home to several different shows; goofy clowns biking around on unicycles, pies flying through the air, animals doing fancy tricks to the beck and call of leotard-wearing women, and more! The young and old will be equally entertained at this theater of laughter, run only by those presenting their talents.
