Sprawled out on the primary coloured, oversized puzzle piece patterned floor surrounded by an inclusive selection of picture books, Elly buries her nose in a Robert Munsch book, not bothered by the fact that it's upside down.
"Now, I'll just be a few shelves over," Alaina explains to the barely attentive Elegy, motioning outside the children's section of the library. "And your brother's over at the table with a few books if you need something."
"Mmm!" hums Elly, totally engrossed with a picture of a baby tearing apart a roll of toilet paper who appears to be sitting on the ceiling at this angle.
Taking this as her cue to leave, Alaina rubs her daughter's blonde hair as she sneaks off to do some more mature reading. Elly barely notices, instead turning the page less than carefully, eager to follow the pictures. She kicks her legs freely through the air, and her tiny tail swishes around her ankles.

Brianna grinned as she carefully pushed her brother's, if you could call it that, wheelchair across the library floor and over to the children's section. There was already another kid there a blonde one with a tail and that excited the young girl. Maybe they could all read a story together.
Unable to see colour at at all Jamie found the children's section of the library somewhat boring, preferring patterns to bright colours which were only a variety of shades of grey in it's eyes. Still the other child there looked interesting enough. Sure they didn't have wings or spikey hair like Brianna and they didn't have crazy toes like he did but everyone was different. after all once upon a time Jamie had been Ethurus and the two looked nothing alike.
" Hi" he called out with a smile.
Parked a few feet away in a comfortable chair Alisdare watched all of this carefully while skimming through a photography magazine

Startled, thinking for a split second that the page she just turned to had talked to her, Elly drops the book she's reading fairly quickly. But it's then that she notices the newcomers, and scrambles into an upright position to greet them.
"Haaaai!" she calls out in an unnecessarily loud voice. Her brother looks over a hardcover book and shushes her, at which she slaps her hands over her mouth in correction. "Oops!" she giggles, looking to both Brianna and Jamie with a wide smile, "I mean, hi!"
She waves her hands over the array of picture books excitedly. "Wanna read stories??" she asks eagerly in her best indoor voice.

Brianna nodded and parked Jamie beside the tailed girl. " We like stories, especially adventure stories." Brianna wasn't sure why Jamie liked them , after all no one could have fun adventure when they were stuck in a boring wheelchair. Maybe he liked to pretend he wasn't in one.
Jamie smiled at the young girl, he remembered being little and enthusiastic about life like that. Sometimes he still was. " I'm Jamie and that's Brianna." Jamie may lock the dexterity, mobility and colour sense he'd once had but a grasp on language was still there. with little else to do but listen to his guardians talk it hadn't taken him too long to learn how to speak this language though his vocabulary was not yet large.

Elly nods excessively at Brianna, taking the request very seriously. " 'Venture, 'venture.." she murmurs, mulling over the slew of books surrounding her on the floor as if one will pop out at her.
She is quickly distracted, though, by introductions. Her ever-present smile returns to her, and she pulls herself onto her bandaged knees (done so for her own safety, as dictated by her blood condition).
"Hi Jamie and Brianna! I'm Elly!!" she squeals, rosy cheeked, her tail swishing to match her bubbling excitement. Elly turns to Jamie and, forgetting all personal boundary rules, touches the wheelchair with one of her chubby hands, considering it, having not seen anything quite like it before.
"I like your wagon!"

Used to people ignoring her in favor of Jamie who was 'special ' , not that Brianna saw anything abnormally good in him, the older girl began picking through the books looking for one with a cover that had suitable adventure atmosphere to it. " Elly is a nice name is it a nickname? My dad calls me Bree sometimes." Brianna liked nicknamed and long named though she wasn't sure what Elly might be short for.
Jamie just smiled at Elly's enthusiastic response to his condition, " It's a chair, I can't walk" he corrected her. It was a pain for him to be debilitated like this. Sure it wasn't as horrid as the disease that had ravaged his mother but still it was painful to feel crippled " I like it too" he added not wanting to be fully negative and admittedly it was a nice chair even if his root toes continued to try and bend the metal each time he was placed in it

Elly blinks rapidly, looking up at Jamie with such a doe-eyed innocence as she considers this. No walking? Maybe.. he can't YET! It's like a stroller, then!
She turns to Brianna and gives a baby-toothed smile. "Yes!" she exclaims, correcting her volume before her brother has the chance. "Elly means Elegy which is my real name and Mummy says it has tah do with music!"
Adjusting on her bandaged knees, Elly laughs lightheartedly in her bubbling excitement and offers Jamie a pile of randomly stacked picture books. "Can you read me a story? I dun read good yet, but I try hard."

Elegy huh? That was a weird name , sorta nice though. Brianna wasn't sure why a short name like Elegy needed a nickname though, of course plenty of things made no sense to the young girl and she quickly dismissed the though and returned her attention to the blonde girl and her brother.
" I can try." Jamie wasn't best reader himself, at least not with this foreign language. there was so much he had been able to do as Ethurus that was no longer possible and it pained Jamie greatly. what use was he of anyone now, except perhaps this little girl who wanted nothing more than a story.
With a smile he placed the offered books onto his lap and flipped open the one on the top of the pile. " This is the story of a little blue train named Thomas." Ahh well at least this story was easy enough.

Elly lets out a muffled squeal at the opening line of the story, so excited that she immediately sites at Jamie's feet, cross legged and attentive. Her fluff-ended tail comes to rest on her knee, and she leans forward, looking to Brianna and then Jamie with anticipation.

Jamie merely smiled and began to read the story stopping every two pages to show Elly the accompanying pictures. He himself was greatfull for them since some of the concepts in the book even if written in small words were beyond him. these trains were made of technologies he had not seem before. Hopefully their colour was not importance since while Jamie could read the words for the colour he couldn't see them and some of them sounded different from the colours he had known as Ethurus.

Elly stays as quiet as she can manage, standing now at Jamie's side to be able to see the book constantly. She loves seeing these weird symbols even if she can't read their meaning. Her mom was trying to teach her, but her attention span usually escapes the toddler on the subject.
"Whoo whuuuu," Elly narrates the sound effect, plopping a hand down on the page to point at a train where puffy clouds were billowing from it. "That's what they say, they say whoo whuu!"
She smiles proudly for having known that, and dances on the spot with unrestrained excitement as a toddler would expect to have on something a little more than just a book, but it's no matter. She doesn't get out much. "What happens, what happens to Thomas??"

Brianna, who sat beside the blond haired girl smiled at her antics, she was really energetic just like Brianna, maybe they could play in a place where they could be loud and free sometime. Elly would probably be fun to fly kites with.
Jamie focused on the small black words making sure he understood them before continuing. " Thomas gets the humans to hook him up to Toby who's all stuck inside the tunnel and then Thomas pulls hard to get Toby unstuck. It's really hard and Thomas gets tried trying to pull Toby, he could go foreward just a little bit at a time." Jamie wasn't telling the story exactly as it was written but it seemed to be going over well enough.

Elegy gives an exaggerated gasp and clasps onto Brianna, as if this is the most tense and suspenseful part of a story. Her tail tucks into the crook of her arm, as if it's hiding from the outcome.
"W-what comes next?" she almost whispers, peering over at Jamie incredulously.
