After my many times of watching the movie and several fictions that have started (but never finished), I have come across some rather curious things that still have me pondering.

Such as, why does something bad always happens when someone carelessly says, "It's a piece of cake"?

Or why was Didymus charged with guarding that bridge with no more instructions that No one can pass without his permission? Wasn't there criteria to grant someone permission (because in the military, it takes two months to get permission for anything with all the paperwork and stamps of approval needed to get anything done)?

Was it just me? or was there a certain lack of explicitly female goblins in the Goblin City? (senza JunkLady)

***

I was thinking about something even more ponderous the other day, and for the life of me, I cannot remember it now.

Any thoughts on these topics? Have any ponderous things of your own to share?

Piece of cake implies that something will be easy. This is deliberate irony. By saying something will be easy, something bad happens that makes the situation clearly not easy.

There were two other female goblins besides Agnes the Junk Lady. In the Magic Dance scene, the brown goblin saying 'slime and snails' and the blue goblin saying 'puppy dog tails'
Magic Dance from 3:31-3:35

What I want to know is about the wall where Hoggle saves Sarah from the Fireys. Where does the wall lead?
And the hedge maze after the oubliette had two different stairways. One led up, and the other led down. I was wondering if those were there for decoration or did they go somewhere?

I want to know why the jareth suddenly made a the ground fall out from under sarah and hoggle when she kissed him. I mean I know he was mad but how can a hole magically appear?

The whole labyrinth bends to his wishes.

And now my pondering! Hoggle clearly states when they're going into the Goblin City "Lets get that rat who calls himself Jareth!" This implies that Jareth isn't Jareth at all in my book... does anyone else have a thought on that?

I think that Hoggle calls Jareth a rat because of the things he's done. Sneaking around, trying to delay them, not that he isn't Jareth.

Maybe like how I sometimes say, "Let's go get that useless sack of flesh we call Todd," concerning a coworker of mine. The guy certainly is himself, and his name is certainly Todd, but I'm also comparing him to a useless sack of... well... yeah.

oops sorry earlier you asked about the wall with the fireys, I think its like the whole rest of the labyrinth you've no idea where it can go and the stairs I think are the same thing.

I suppose this is right, I always thought there might be something else behind this though.

You might think I'm crazy, but have you ever wondered what Jareth really was? He's not a goblin that is for sure, what kind of goblin looks like that? I've read on other sites that he could possibly be some sort of Fae, and after reading Brian Froud's "Good faeries" Book I'm inclined to believe it.

Toward the beginning of the the movie the dialogue between Hoggle and Sarah suggest faeries are not nice. "I thought they did nice things like granting wishes and stuff," says Sarah. Hoggle retorts, "Shows what you know, don't it?"

Now for the faery book, the faery that I am looking at give gifts of crystals, and can transform themselves into owls. Because of these two things I am convinced that Jareth is a faery Godfather!

Now who's is the question, he takes Toby away and as we find out makes him the prince of the Labyrinth. But he's also doing what Sara wishes...

Do I sound crazy, or do I make some amount of sense to some people?

Here's a website by a guy that does these psychoanalysis reports. In this one, he gives reasons why Jareth is a Fae.
But I thought Faeries did nice things!
No, you don't sound crazy. The first couple times I watched the film I kinda figured he wasn't exactly human.

Thanks, I never read that all the way through, so I'll have to remember it when I get more free time.

Well I've always felt that jareth is a fae I mean really its ridiculous that people who summerise return to labyrinth said he was a wizard or somwething. I mean honestly does jar look like a wizard to yeah? Plus fae have otherworldly beauty and tricksterish nature, fit jar's nature at all?

((Plus I've read to many fanfics in which they all refear to jareth as a fae not resourceful I know but because of that I went into a deep search about fae and who some were. And you actually wouldn't be surprised.))

It makes a lot of sense and all good points. However, for some reason either Hoggle acting on his own whims if not Jareth's want the fairys sprayed.

But one of my questions is why?!
