Harriet stared around Café Eros. He had showed up about an hour early for his date, being so nervous that he’d shown up at the wrong time. He had waited for quite a while-till the actual time arrived-but, his worrisome self, wondered quite a lot if he’d found the wrong day or missed his date. Blinking around the room, an expression like a deer in headlights, Harriet wondered quite a bit about all sorts of things, including his outfit.

Today he wore something a little less dressy than usual. He had thought his more fancy clothing would make him seem too stuffy for his date. People on this world seemed to dress down much more often than people where he came from. So there the blonde sat in a new pair of blue jeans that featured a lovely leafy design on the one leg-he found they were at least comfortable-a black t-shirt-bought at the same time as the jeans. Over them, he wore a one of his usual maroon blazers and a matching tophat was perched upon his head. He’d felt almost naked just wearing the t-shirt, jeans, and his black boots. Harriet would have just worn the hat-he was called Hatty for a reason-but it looked utterly out of place without the jacket. He just HAD to match-it was a first impression thing, and he was a bit picky about his clothes matching-and if he had nothing to match his hat-the jeans didn’t really need anything-he’d have gone nuts or had to go without-luckily for him the coat wasn’t too dressy.

Another worried glance around the room, and at the glass of water in front of him, he hoped his date showed up soon. This was insane. He’d been practically forced into going on a date, and he was already quite sure he’d screwed up.

A trip to the dry-cleaner's later and Georgina's recycled bride's maid dress was back in action; even the bad experience last time wasn't enough to convince her that it would be best to get rid of it. Besides, the thrift store didn't take back things one wanted to return, so she'd be stuck with the dress whether she was willing to give it another chance or not. Speaking of chances...

Third time's the charm, and it was her last bid at this dating business before she threw in the proverbial towel. Georgina stood in front of the building and gulped. She had one hand clenching a fistful of her skirt fabric, lifting it above her feet so she was in no danger of tripping on it, and she had to nudge the door open with her shoulder because there was something cupped in her other hand. It seemed like a reasonably busy day; on her way to the only table with just one person there, she had to dodge a waiter carrying a tray full of wine glasses.

"Are you... Um... Harriet, right?" She leaned over to get a better look at Hatty, hoping desperately that she'd found the right person. He looked casual, and she hoped she didn't seem overdressed in comparison.

The blonde glanced up from his worrying to stare at the girl. For she was a girl, not only by gender but also by age. He was already ten years her senior by this world’s definition, though where he came from that wasn’t too bad. Smiling nervously at her, Harriet stood to pull out her chair on the other side of the table. He was sooooooo very confused about what to do, but the fact that she was wearing a dress and politeness made him feel pulling out her chair should be a good idea.

“Um, yes. I’m Hatty-er Harriet. Harriet Fenmoore,” he almost turned around and smacked his head on the wall for his stupidity, for forgetting his own first name, “Sorry. More used to my nickname. Very few people call me Harriet these days. You would be Georgina, I take it?”

Her outfit unnerved him a bit. Was he supposed to actually dress up? Oh dear, he should have just come in his normal attire. It would have been more suitable maybe? “I hope I’m not too dressed down. I’ve never been on a date before and didn’t know what was considered proper attire.”

She smiled nervously, and nodded in thanks before taking a seat. This one seemed nice enough... "Hatty? Okay. I'll call you that. And yes, I'm Georgina! Georgina Bonney. Um, sometimes my friends call me Georgie, or at least they would if I had more than one friend," she said, and winced. Whoops. Wrong detail to include. She scooted her chair closer and unfolded her napkin from around the bundle of silverware in front of her.

"You look fine. Don't worry about it, I'm probably the one too dressed up," she said calmly, and looked from side to side in search of a waiter. And then, she gulped and decided she should ask a question while she could. "Um, I know this sounds weird, but... Do I look blurry? Just yes or no. It'd be weird to explain." Better n** any potential awkward moments in the bud and give him the thing in her hand before he inquired why he couldn't see her clearly. Georgina looked down at the irregular, pearl-like thing she was holding, a bridge orb, even though it wasn't much of a sphere, and wondered if she'd need to use it.

Harriet took his seat once more, eyes closing a bit as he took her in first statement and smiled. “Heh, I know how that one is. I don’t have many friends myself. A few people who associate and work with me, but no real friends persay.”

Her second question caused him to reopen his eyes in curiousity. Harriet’s vision was decent, provided he were actually looking for something, and knew what he was looking for. Actually concentrating on her figure, he saw what his mind had previously bypassed. “Yes, I do believe you are.” The blonde said, furrowing his brows. “Should I be worried about this, or is it normal? I’m not used to this galaxy, or it’s people yet.”

Georgina relaxed visibly, relieved she hadn't committed a terrible faux pas in mentioning her lack of friends. "Oh... I understand. We're both sort of like hermits," she said, and ventured a returning smile.

As for the matter of her visibility... Georgina turned over the bridge orb in her hand, then set it down in the table in front of him. "Just hold this for a while, okay? Just give it back when we leave, because I don't know where I'll get another if you lose it and you might see some weird things if you keep it with you all the time. It's hard to explain. Just please, take my word for it?" she asked, eyes imploring. There were Dreambeasts skulking around all over this city, since they existed right alongside humans by nature, and the last thing she wanted was for a malicious one to figure out Harriet could see it with the bridge orb and start harassing him. It was against Dream law to physically harm a human (or any other denizen of reality) in anything other than an act of self-preservation, but it was a worrisome thing all the same.

“Oh, no, my brother’s the hermit. He lives in a swamp. I’m just shy. Or so I’m told.” The man muttered, in a semi-thoughtful manner. Bog was a very bad hermit though. Their mother forced him to visit. Bog disliked this greatly and complained about it.

Smiling again, Harriet picked up the small object and held it obligingly. “All right. It’d probably be best if you reminded me though. I have no qualms about returning it, but I’m a tad forgetful.” He didn’t really question the order, he was at least bright enough to figure it had something to do with her being blurry, and it was probably best just to leave it for when she wanted to explain.

“So, what do you do for a living?” the man asked, as they were awaiting their server’s arrival. Work, work was a good subject to start with, right? He at least knew where he was with work.

"Oh," said Georgina, at a loss to say anything else on having genuine hermits as relatives since she lacked any similar experiences to compare with it. After a moment, she added, "You have siblings? Well, besides the brother in the swamp." Keep the subject on him, and she could wriggle through a discussion about family, since she hadn't contacted her parents for years and lacked any corresponding material.

The sight of him holding the bridge orb made her relax a little, and hoped that she'd come into focus for him. "I'll remind you to give it back when this is over. Sound good?"

Ah, work. This was a good enough subject, and Georgina laced her fingers together in a businesslike way. "I run an antique shop downtown, nothing fancy. The important part is that it pays the bills. I guess it could be a pawn shop, too, because I'll buy interesting things from people if they bring stuff in," she said, "How about you? I read on your profile thing that you're a candymaker. Is that hard? I like candy, but I guess you're sick of it, if it's your job."

“Just the one and I rarely see him. Mother may make Bog visit, but she doesn’t care if I visit or not. I’m not quite like the rest of my family so we have our issues of not wanting to see each other. Bog’s the only one I see, every now and again, and I usually only see him when I’m visiting Granny-whose in no way related to me-in the swamp to deliver large orders of candy. I’d have my workers do it but the swamp is dangerous, and Bog at least lets me go through as I’m family and am the only member of our family who doesn’t force contact on him.” Harriet rambled, offhandly. He didn’t much care about discussing his family, he just liked to be accurate about some things.

Her assurance of a reminder about the object she’d handed him was fine, though it did spark one more question. “That sounds fine, but need it be held in my hand, or can I put it in my shirt pocket? It’d get awkward to eat one handed.” He laughed lightly, not a supreme lot, but a bit, at the thought.

“Yes, I own a factory. On this planet, it seems saying that I have a candy factory, and wear top hats, seems to be getting me odd literature based nicknames. There isn’t much work for me anymore. I just design new products and my staff does the rest. I was never a fan of sweets anyway. I just got into the business for familial reasons that I’d prefer not to get into as they’re stupid. It serves it’s purpose of pleasing others, paying the bills, and being an outlet for my creativity, so I can’t complain too much.”
