.....

SON OF A --

There wasn't enough time to react to the beastly creature's agility and strength. Caught nearly completely off guard, the swordsman relied almost fully by now his instinctive response, raising his arms without realization and crossing his arm together in an X, left hand in front.
The massive punch left by Murdoch nearly sent the swordsman flying backwards quite some meters, the boots failing to get proper traction on the platform from the ice as his arms absorbed the kinetic impact, reducing a bit of the damage --

But unable to stop the mind-breaking punch to some extent. However, something shiny could be seen in front of the swordsman, especially where Murdoch delivered the punch.

Ice.
While it wasn't the best way to halt an impact, the coating of the dense 'armor', if one wishes to call it that way, quickly shattered afterwards on impact, causing all the excess kinetic energy to bleed off and further reduce the damage taken by the swordsman himself.
It didn't mean that it didn't hurt though, as the armor was quickly erected on the spot and not given enough time to absorb the blow.

Coughing out loud and lowering his upper body, it's obvious that he was hurt by the massive punch. Perhaps, a pleasing sign to the foe.

Perhaps.
But the carnage of his missed shot did not stop there. For as the foe continue to slide with the momentum, the beam which punctured a hole through the platform curved in midair - the action making it look more or less like an oriental dragon - and careened straight down towards Murdoch's body, intent to slam the foe straight down onto the platform with - unfortunately less power than the one Murdoch gave to the swordsman.
That doesn't mean it won't hurt as much, if Murdoch wasn't prepared for it.

While the swordsman gave the impression of trying to recover, the platform was rapidly sinking further down from the water being drawn out of the arena, most of his cloth already soaked and starting to show signs of disfiguring that would soon show his action two posts later.

Murdoch never stopped, this was a brute who had survived for quite a lengthy period of time here on Gaia and the beast would show this nameless swordsman why. (Well at least nameless to Murdoch as far as he was concerned.)

The dragonic b*****d moved with pure momentum, true his target would apparently be in a slide backwards, momentarily away from Murdoch, but he would still not be to far from the heavier foe which as stated still moved with the momentum from his earlier strides.

His punch was apparently effectively blocked against, Murdoch wouldn't spare the thought of when and how the shield of ice had placed itself upon his opponent's arm(s) as fast as it did in the short time his target had to do so, instead Murdoch would use a now tilting platform, the weight of his target triggering the contenders' side of the platform to sink in a decline while the other half rose, displacing water at it's rounded edges, once again sending the heavier contender down to the ice/water user with little time to strategize, heading straight into his target all over again, this time faster, and with shorter distance to kill. In a brutish flash, left leg lifting by it's respective knee's joint.

EPIC PAUSE?

No.
The leg shot out in a seemingly sloppy forward kick akin to a trained Kick Boxer's own, obviously he had done this before, five feet of leg had just been unleashed. Just not while moving on the other leg at an angle, his left arm bent at the joint to be used as both a mean's of balance and a means of protection as traditional for a move, his right however pointed outwards for balancing instead, due to the lack of time to be reeled in to mimic his left arm.
The target was now apparently leaning forward and coughing, while a serpentine figure of water began it's downwards pursuit upon Murdoch.

Spectators held their breath.

Hearts either stopped, slowed, or quickened, one guy may be suffering from a heart attack.

His target would now be chin/jaw/nose/forehead against a dragonic-scaled foot, now Murdoch himself didn't know what the hell was going to hit him upon his backside, but sure enough he would find out now!

The weakened stream would smack a tensed, perhaps even sore muscled backside, due to the platform's ever declining angle, which would only quicken, strengthen, and perhaps break more then what was intended upon the impact zone, if impacted, but if his target was taken by surprise as he did earlier from the stride around his opponent's initial attack at the middle of the platform, how would he take it from an even faster, more timed attack, the brain and human bone could only take so much trauma all at once?

The stream had once again caused some muscle tissue damage and scale cracking, his encased lungs however, would be taking a pounding. Luckily Murdoch was already "going with the flow."

Murdoch had placed himself, unintentionally in a give and take situation, he was his opponent's mantle piece (as far as the "oriental dragon" image was concerned) and now the swordsman was paying for it.

K.O.???

The swordsman might have been caught off guard the first time, but it didn't mean that he would be caught off guard again the second time. A bit dazed when he was sent flying, the shattered ice that was sent flying to dissipate the kinetic force...
He's still conscious and kicking however.

The swordsman need only an opening to break past the tense action Murdoch is mercilessly throwing out, and with the leg shot fired off towards the swordsman's face while he leaned forward to act injured -
True, the speed is beyond any normal comparison. But he still has his ways of deflecting it, like this;

Instead of dodging it by pulling his head back, he slid forward suddenly, twisting his torso to the right simultaneously while the blade that was still in his hand chopped against the incoming ankle of the foot too lightly to injure.
After all, it was in the way of the blade's position, so navigating it there took less time in effort than it required for the swordsman to physically pull his upper body up from the position.
This caused the swordsman to - in an unexpected course - slide around the delivered kick whilst he twisted his torso, not facing the full disclosure of the brute force behind it --
Just nudging the force from the sides to change its direction just a bit so the swordsman isn't facing the full strength of the front kick.
Just a fraction of it. It would be easier to think of it in analogy, a dense spinning ball that is revolving around itself, and a projectile is thrown at it only to be knocked away because of the spin.
Same application, only in different content.

The look in the swordsman's eyes finally took on a different expression.

Rage.

The stream didn't stop. Nor did it simply end there. For as soon as it collided with Murdoch's backside the water flowed across the scales, some latching underneath the cracked sections and filling it with the fluid --
Before the stream itself froze nearly instantaneously under the close proximity of the swordsman's influence.

Some freezing beneath the scales, and on top of it.
To attempt to rip the cracked scales - and the surrounding areas - completely off of the Dragonkin's flesh by the expanding ice itself. Even if unsuccessful, at least to immobilize one side of the opponent's body with ice so it bides time for the swordsman.
At the same time, water which covered the entire surface of the platform latched onto the swordsman's legs, yanking him directly away to the dragonkin's right, and out of reach of those long, brute limbs of his. Granted Murdoch has the ability to force the target to fall towards those ghastly claws, the swordsman has his way of navigating around even if the platform isn't balanced in the end.

They are fighting on water, after all.

As for the speed which the swordsman is retreating for the time being - at least enough and in another direction to still the charge of Murdoch's fury.

lol wut?

The sire of physics pondered for a moment. How could a man with lost traction moving down at a negative slope upon ice no less, slide upwards? Moving from a leaning position to seemingly pull his blade hand up to use as some sort of deflection of a kick that was fired at a man who had just begun to lean forward and cough, while then arcing around in similar upwards fashion.

Wut?

Judge pl0x?

In the mean time to get this sexy train going, Murdoch, as his target apparently slid upwards and around towards his left (Swordsman's right slide thingy).

It was time to hit the nail on the head, his left arm would just come down from it's temple position, KA-POW (Awh ********! Its a negative slope, no fist to the crown of the head) a muscled forearm/fist would slam into the face of a moving target.

One could only assume the damage when two moving forces are contradicting each other (one moving at greater speed then the other) would detail.

Broken neck? Broken bones upon the face? Who knew.

To sum everything up in one simple phrase;
Ice and water combined can do many things.

The foe was, bluntly put, heavy. Heavy to the point where the platform is leaning up due to the foe's weight, and causing an incline which the swordsman would slide towards the itchy feet of the foe's....armored scaled foot.
The swordsman never pulled his upper body up to stand erect on the platform - nor did he pull his body physically back away from the foe. The wording might've caused the apparent misunderstanding, but the swordsman did not, slide up and away from Murdoch up the platform.
He just slid forward towards Murdoch and twisted on his torso to the right, right to the inside of the outstretched left leg, the slide down doing everything that would prevent him from being whacked squarely in the face.
And with that twist the foot would've missed the face by mere fraction of a few inches, enough to spark some cold sweat down the swordsman's face while he coughed, but not enough to fully break the neck of the swordsman in one jolt.

But, since everything he planned is all torn to shreds thanks to the now unexpected revenue, the swordsman did what he thought instinctive was best to compensate for this;
The blade skid along the scaled left foot, going for a chop towards the neck in a diagonal slash in a simple counter as fast as he could muster - left side of the neck down to the right torso of Murdoch that would be hit.

And depending on how that goes - which he has no high hopes for, he'll use the entire body of Murdoch as a wall to 'push' himself away and slide even further down the sinking platform to exact distance.

Given that if, Murdoch still plans to dish out the damage with that punch, the blade in front of him would be the thing that would block it - not effectively, but enough to reduce damage that wouldn't be life threatening.

Painful, perhaps. But not lethal.
