Hi, everyone. I'm looking at starting a minor vegetable/herb garden, but I have very little space to work with. I have a nice, large window that gets plenty of sun, but no balcony or outdoor space that I can use. I measured my window today, and several planters would fit perfectly just inside of it where they'd get plenty of light. I don't see the herbs I'm thinking of growing posing a problem. My question deals with the vegetables.

Any suggestions on what I could grow?

hmm.. green onions (scallions), leaf lettuce, spinach, radishes. You could try cherry tomatoes or peppers depending on how much space you have in your windowsill.

You could probably even try beets or turnips if you had a deep enough container.

What are your favourite veggies? I'd take a look at the growing requirements of those and try to make it work. :3

Raddishe's are definitely good in a small space!

Along the lines of herbs:

- Mint is good, but it can take over before you know it..

- Rosemary is easy, and did you know Rosemary only grows in the gardens of strong women? ^___^

- Thyme is also good, it doesnt need a lot of water either!

Hi! Just a small update. Unfortunately circumstances in my life are changing, and the window garden I was thinking of starting doesn't seem as feasible for the time being. This is mainly due to a rather long move that I've started planning for (I live in Colorado right now, and I'm hoping to go to college in Helsinki sometime in the near future), and moving a garden that distance could be a problem. As such I'll use your advice when I get to Finland, but for now I think it's best for me to wait and see. Thanks for all the advice, though. I hope it will come in handy in the future. biggrin
