Character Name: Tomoe Hotaru/Super Sailor Saturn
Why Them: Hotaru is a misunderstood and classically misinterpreted character. every person who is a fan of her sees her as a different archetype. I've passionately debated with other people about how strongly Saturn affects the storyline of the series, and not just from being the Messiah of Silence/Harbinger of Destruction. Hotaru brings about the softer, feminine side of Uranus, gives Chibi Usa something to prove herself for as a princess and a senshi, and provides the necessary line for the senshi to pause at and say 'How far do we go to save the world?'

She's been my favorite character in the series since I first saw her. She's more complex than most people realize. She's sweet and shy, but at the same time, cold and demanding of all degrees of duty when it's necessary as Saturn, including the need to kill and be killed. She's compassionate about her friends' desires, but feels no remorse over the knowledge that something has died/will die, even her teammates. The girl is essentially the true opposition of Sailor Moon and a challenge that I enjoy playing in roleplays.
Background: At first Hotaru was just a normal kid with two parents who loved her, though her father never had much time for her. Suddenly everything changed for her when she snuck into her father's lab to watch him work. The resulting explosion from a failed experiment nearly killed her, however her mother who had tried to save her from it after following her down, was killed instantly in the blast.

Her father was greviously wounded in the fire, but managed to make a pact with a devil and save his body, allowing a Daimon from Taioron to possess it. Inside his daughter was placed the soul of another Taioron, but her fragile body began to reject the spirit and die anyway. To keep her alive further, she was turned into a cyborg by her father, who replaced the failing parts of her body with mechanical pieces.

Hotaru's body held a secret magic that allowed her to heal other's physical injuries, something that scared away her schoolmates, thinking her to be a witch. Chibi Usa met her and thought it was 'cool'. The two girls became great friends until the Mistress 09 daimon possessed Hotaru fully and essentially killed ChibiUsa, taking her pure heart to allow the daimon to fully awaken and summon Pharoah 90 from his banished spot in the Taioron System.

After nearly killing her own friends, Hotaru awoke the power of Saturn and purged Mistress 09 from herself.
RP Challenge: I like to play an older Hotaru (12-13) as a tortured soul. She essentially caused her mother's death and her father's damnation, which led to his death. She killed her best friend and tried to kill the people who wanted to save her life despite her actions. Being possessed by a demon does not, in her mind, excuse any of her actions. She has full memory of what she did and still believes it to be her fault. Her betrayal of the Moon Court by becoming a tool of Galaxia only furthers her descent into depression. She's not a happy teenager and with the final and true return to the future of Chibi Usa, she is now alone in the world.

It was still early in the afternoon, so the streets weren't as crowded as the pictures people see on television. They weren't supposed to be here, and that was why it was such an appealing prospect. Luckily, they each looked just old enough to pass for lazy college students if they weren't wearing their uniforms. The boy in front had his hair slicked back, his clothes were too baggy for his slightly toned build, but that was how he liked it. This was nothing new to him, skipping school was pretty much par for course... but it was very exciting to the two girls that followed him.

The first with longer hair squealed in excitement as they passed a dessert shop, "This day needs a parfait!" she chimed.

The second girl did a slight bunny hop in joy, her hair bounding to either side of her shoulders, "Or a sundae!"

The boy sneered and looked away, "Whatever, but I'm not buying anything!" he huffed the response in a way that was almost a pout, "Just because I'm supposed to be your bodyguard or whatever, doesn't mean I have to buy you stuff," he contended. Truthfully, he probably would have treated two attractive girls... if he had even a single yen in his pocket. And for a bodyguard he kind of stood out, stopping at every corner and looking around like a hooligan impersonating the secret service.

The first girl made a face at the boy while the second turned to the fourth member of their group, "What do you think, do you want anything?"

For the third time now, it was as if the youkai was expecting the attack. Like something his opponent was doing was broadcasting intention well before the actual strike. Coupled with his speed it was almost like he was toying with his enemy. As if it wasn't worth his time to draw his sword. Truthfully, he was being patient with this... he'd been asked to do this a certain way, and like it or not he had an obligation to accept the terms. But even the Buddha was only patient three times, and now this game was wearing just a little bit thin... he really did have better things to do.

"Your devotion to this cause is admirable, however blind it may be," he sighed the words out more than actually spoke them, "But you have to know by now that you can't beat me." He brought his arm up and pulled on the bandages wrapped around it, loosening them with his teeth before slowly unravelling them with the other hand. It was all done very ritualisticly, with his eyes locked on his enemy in a death stare. The more he unravelled the more a hellish heat surrounded him like a miasma, "Next time I will finish this..."

The walk had been long and it was a good night for it. A warm and calm spring evening, the clear sky ablaze with the stars and the shimmering sliver of a waxing crescent moon. Tomorrow night it would be a new moon... conspicuously and ominously absent from the sky. But for now, it clung romantically to life. Defiant to time and the cycle that bound it. Sakura pedals drifted along the light gusts of a welcome cool breeze, dancing along their path as they traversed it.

He'd mostly been quiet, responding to things with gentle nods or tones of a hum more than words, but he'd held his companion close for the entire walk. The deep crimson rose in his left hand was held tenderly and caringly. It would be easy to imagine the moment he'd turn and present it formally... perhaps when the reached their mysterious destination. His long blood red hair matched the color of the flower almost perfectly, and the look in his eyes was poetry...

The destination became more apparent as they passed through a clearing. Stone tablets, the smell of incense and the general feeling of the otherworld... he'd taken his companion to a graveyard. Macabre, perhaps, but they were alone at least. At least as alone as one could be in a graveyard. Then he turned and placed the rose at the foot of a tablet... it was centuries old, the name barely legible on it any longer. It looked like it had only recently become well taken care of... as if it had been forgotten years ago and then suddenly remembered. He lit a stick of incense and turned to his companion, "Now you know..." he confessed, "why I can't ever love you..."

They weren't out of this fight yet, just because of a few scrapes and bruises, dammit! They outnumberred their enemy two to one. Okay, okay, so that meant this single enemy had essentially owned them for the last thirteen minutes and forty-seven seconds. But the bad guys never win for more than an even fifteen minutes, right? They were bound to make a comeback here pretty soon.

The golden blonde with the much longer hair tried to push to her feet but that last blow had caused her ankle to switch sides. Suddenly it wasn't agreeing with the rest of her body and had become neutral in this whole affair. She looked to her partner with a somewhat pathetic and pleading look, prompting an empathetic nod from the taller leggier girl. Any of the others might have been closer to the line of asking for mercy or retreating at this point. She could grab her partner and make a break for it. She had no doubt she could outrun their enemy. Nobody would even dream of faulting her for making a strategic escape. She could quit, you know, she'd totally done her best.

A wry grin crossed her face as she made her way to her feet, sword clenched in her teeth because her left hand couldn't take the weight of it after the last shot to her arm. You know what Sean Connery said? Your best? Quitters always b***h about their best. Winners go home and bang the prom queen! Her mind paraphrased as she raised both hands above her head with great strain to do so. Prom Queen's wished they looked like the girl she had waiting for her back home! So she certainly wasn't ready to b***h about her best!

"World..." she began with a husky roar as the energy began to gather above her between her palms.

Her partner used one hand to brace the other and pointed at their enemy, "Crescent..."

They'd tried it before, sure. The definition of crazy is doing the same thing and expecting new results. But if you're ever gonna survive on love, gotta get a little crazy!

Work didn't get much more tedious than ferrying the dead. It wasn't anywhere near as glamorous as the action adventures of Bleach had made it out to be. Mostly, all she did was make rounds to the people who were too unaligned, or more commonly, too dumb to find their way properly to the afterlife. She honestly felt like she could be having more excitement as a social worker. At least then she wouldn't have to explain the same thing about a hundred times to each moron who went and got him or herself dead that day. And jeez were people dying all the time lately, or what?

She'd put in for vacation time a while ago, and in another couple of weeks she'd have the time off all to herself. She was already dreaming about where she'd go when she was snapped back to reality by another case she needed to attend. Didn't anybody get the drill without having somebody hold their hand? Your dead. Transcend. It isn't exactly Sudoku, people. Anybody who gets those numbers lined up in the duration of a coffee break is practicing evil magic, believe you me. Oh, they'd argue, but I can't be dead. I didn't know I was dead. Why am I dead? Your dead because you died. You didn't know? Here's a clue. If you can suddenly walk through walls and you find yourself floating off the ground. Good chance your dead, you might want to look into it.

"Alright," she groaned at the new contact, "Here's the drill. Your dead, I'm the grim reaper," she rolled her eyes without even letting the other person respond, "I know I'm not what you expected, I know I have an oar and no I'm not going to explain it. Got it? Good!" she grabbed them by the wrist, "Let's go."
