Rikia got to her feet, her cheeks flushing red. It hadn't really been her fault - after all, Sen had been pushing her - but it still hurt her pride that she would fall flat on her face when trying to break up a fight.
As always, she was only getting part of the excitement, hearing the curses from Sen and the growls from Jig. She also heard the scrabbling and running away sounds of a boy who knew he'd bitten off more than he could chew. Slowly, Rikia gathered that Jig - being the over-protective guide dog that he was - had done something to cause Sen pain. Probably bit him... She really should feel bad about it, and scold the dog... but it was what he'd been trained to do; protect his master no matter what.
"Leave me alone, girl! I've got more than one score to settle here, and if I'm to keep my head high in this dirthole, I'm going to have to have a little respect around here, and I'll pound the respect into every skull in all of this dungheap if I have to!"
Sen's words only briefly surprised the blind girl, who was still fuming about the stupidity that had just taken place. "Respect?!" she scoffed, "If anyone knows what it's like to have absolutely NO respect, it's me. Everyone treats me like I'm completely and totally helpless. They always think that they need to be all gentle and quiet around me, and do everything for me, Just because..." She stopped herself quickly. She'd been about to tell Sen she was blind. She really didn't know this guy very well, and he seemed like a bit of a bully and a jerk, but no one that knew about her disability would have started a fight around her... Or - for that matter - used the term dungheap. It might be nice if someone treated her like she was normal... So for now she'd try and keep it a secret... From Sen at least. But enough of those thoughts. Her tirade wasn't over yet.
"And another thing," She continued, distantly hoping he wouldn't notice her pause, "if you have to attack people smaller than you for no reason to get 'respect', then I, at the very least, will have No respect for you. Really want to get respect? Show people you're above doing stuff like that..." She stopped there, although she wanted to add 'no wonder you were banished!'. She knew how much it hurt to be reminded of things like that... and she wasn't that angry.

((Hm...perhaps we don't quite mesh with the definition of youth...a youth is a young man roughly between the ages of 13 and 20...in other words, a teenager/young man))
Sen glared at her angrily. "You don't understand, do you?" he said quietly. "First off, that fleck of dust is six months older than me--and he's hardly smaller than I am. Second, no one asked you to intervene. So you don't get any respect? Hardly my problem. Don't get in my way, don't insult my family, and especially don't insult my sister. She's my only sibling to survive--after I was born, my mother lost two kids and she lost a couple after Nara was born. She just had a lot of problems with bearing kids. My sister decides not to sit around waiting for some bum to come in and pay the brideprice, and everyone assumes that she's an easy woman. That's what I have to deal with. And as soon as I stand up to defend myself, someone's always there taking everyone else's sides. Well. I hope not to be seeing you around here, Mistress Justice." Angrily, Sen got to his feet, dusted off his kilt, and stormed away to the hut he would inhabit in his stay.
He turned as he walked, calling back, "And keep your mongrel away from us! Cat has a nasty temper, she only likes Dust!" The nerve of that girl! Like she's the only one who has problems. She just doesn't understand.
And why does she always look at a point a foot away from me whenever we talk?

(( o.o Oh. Well, I can work that in I guess. sweatdrop Oops. Ooh! And I have an idea as to how we can get in the mountains... Hope you don't mind if I move forward time a little bit... If you do, just say so and I'll edit out my post. xd ))
Oops. Rikia had made a mistake in the judging of ages. Why did I assume that Sen was picking on someone smaller? She wondered to herself briefly before scrabbling to come up with a way to distract Sen from her mistake. Luckily, Sen began to talk about his past, and seemed to forget about her assumption.
"I never insulted your family, or your sister. As for getting in your way, I'm not going to just sit around and watch some 'tough guy' start fights. And did you think your mom was the only one who had problems birthing children? I'm the oldest, and I've lost two siblings each the year they were born. My younger brother can't move his legs, and he's also deaf. And as for everyone taking sides against you? That's probably what will happen if you start killing someone just because he looked at you the wrong way."
It was too late to reason with him, however. She could hear his angry footsteps walking off. Rikia stared out at nothing angrily. She was too upset to block the glare from her face... Hopefully no unfortunate person was standing in front of her, getting the worst of her gaze.
I HATE goat camp. She raged to herself angrily. I take it back. Even Niffin is worse than this... and I'm going back there... After all, I can find the direction easily enough... I can walk that far!
Pulling confidence from her anger, she licked a finger and held it out, testing the wind. It was coming from her left, so that must be North! She set out in that direction, with a whimpering Jig at her heels.
Unfortunately, the winds in the Goat Camp were different than those in Niffin. She was heading in entirely the wrong direction. Away from the road... and farther into the mountains. ~

(Mwahahahahahaha, I've been preparing for this moment for MONTHS...presenting the first hill folk, the Savitri twins!) Mohana strode ahead of Aniruddho, their staves clacking on the stone. She grinned and took a deep breath, the breath of freedom. "Well, brother mine, we are free."
Aniruddho sighed. "Are you sure this was a brilliant idea, Mohana?"
"Of course! You do want to see Godar dragons, right?"
"Yeah, I do." He sighed and then thought he saw a figure further along, stumbling onto the path blindly. "Hey, Mohana, look!"
Mohana saw the girl, too, and was already running forward on booted feet toward the girl, shouting, "Hey, whoa, wait! Stop! You're walking toward a precipice!"

((Hmm.... How can I get Rikia to not listen to Mohana and fall in the crevice anyway... ninja *wants Sen to follow Jig Lassie-style* ... Oh! I've got it!))
Rikia was already too far up the path, still being followed by Jig, who kept to her heels worriedly. This was strange country for him as well... And he didnt' really know where his master wanted to go... which was why the pup remained silent when Rikia moved off of the path, still in a huff and not noticing the brush under her feet become more rough.
Before long she was out of sight of Mohana and Aniruddho, and heading towards a crevice in the ground... Suddenly she was falling... Or maybe flying. It was hard to tell which direction she was floating in without sight. Rikia automatically spread her arms and legs to try and figure out was going on through touch. Her feet scraped against rock, causing her to wince... But her fall was halted as she stood in the crevice with one foot on each side, gripping small outcroppings of rock. Her hands found the edges of the crevice as well and got a hold. She wasn't entirely sure what had happened, but she couldn't really take her feet off of the rock to see if she'd begin to fall again... and there was no way of knowing how deep the crevice was.
She looked up, then cursed, not knowing why she bothered. It's not like she would see anything. Then she whistled. A bark answered from slightly above her. Good. Jig hadn't fallen. He was probably looking down the crevice at her, trying to figure out what to do.
"Jig!" She called up. He barked again in response. "People. Fetch!"
She heard scrabbling sounds as the pup no doubt took off toward the village to bring someone back, as he was trained to do. She wondered who he'd bring back..."
((Geyser, I'm not sure if I can rp Jig as part of Rikia's character. I might be pushing it as it is at times. sweatdrop Do you just want to have Sen appear, and he reveals that Jig showed up and led him there?))

((Nah, I think you can RP him as well!))
Sen stared at the wall of the hut moodily, sharpening his knife occasionally on a strap. Oblivious to everything, he tried to get his mind in order. This evening, after supper, he'd find Nara and explain why he was there. She would probably roll her eyes, or punch him, or lecture him that she was "fine," and that she could "take care of" her honor without his "meddling and general over-all making things worse for the rest of us."
Cat sat on his bunk quietly, staring at the rough door. Something was out there, something she didn't like. An animal, enthusiastic, irritating...her natural enemy. She leapt off the bunk and padded to the door, hissing and meowing, aggravated and impatient.

((Okaaaay... But if elfy or kit calls us on it? ... *wiggles eyebrows dangerously* I BLAME YOU. twisted ... wink ))
Rikia's pup had run back to the village frantically, slightly afraid to leave his master, but also knowing that he needed to follow her commands. She had said to fetch people, and that was what he would do! But who would he find?
Slightly confused, Jig ran to the first hut he could see. He paused when he reached the door, however. This was where that cat from this afternoon lived. He could smell her... But he had to get help for Rikia.
He took a breath... Opened his mouth...
"BARK! BARK! BARK! BARK!" He shook the door of Sen's hut, dashing up against it frantically.
~
Rikia grimaced as her left foot slipped an inch and a sharp, jutting rock cut into her heel. For all she knew, the ground was only a few inches below... She had to at least try to find out...
She made sure her hands and her right foot were all planted firmly on the rock before she lifted her left foot and cautiously lowered it into the crevice beneath her. Two inches and no ground. She didn't dare to move it down any farther than that. She returned that foot to the wall, breathing quickly. The adreniline was beginning to rush.
The edge of the precipice wasn't so far up... Maybe someone that could see would try to climb up, but she had no way of knowing if something was obstructing her path up the rocks or not. To try would mean giving up the delicate position she was in, and she wasn't sure she'd be able to find her way back to it if she started climbling...

Mohana started swearing when the girl disappeared. "Aniruddho, I think I heard Papa talking about some sort of goat camp up here. Why don't you run down there while I start looking for the girl? We'll need some help."
Aniruddho sighed. "Fine, I'll be back shortly." He started running off in the direction the girl had come, starting to use his staff to leap over rough ground and move faster.
Mohana hurried off, looking around on the path for the girl. She would have shouted if she'd known the girl's name. Where could the dratted girl have gone? She didn't even think of looking in the crevasses.

((OoC: Kit - Thank yee! ^^ Elfy - Yeah, that's fine. smile I just wanted to make Rikia fall in the cliff and see Jig act like Lassie. rofl I'm excited to be one of the first people to rp with Hill Folk, too. whee ))
Rikia had another idea of how to figure out how far down it was to the bottom of the crevice. Once again making sure her feet were firmly planted, she slid her right hand along the wall until she found a crumbling piece of rock. She helped its natural erosion along a bit, breaking off the piece. She nearly lost her balance when the stone came away from the wall easier than she'd expected. Breathing heavily, she dropped the stone and listened. If a thud sounded right away, the grownd wasn't so far below her, and she could walk away simply feeling foolish. If it took longer for it to sound...
She listened for at least ten minutes before admitting to herself that the grownd was too far down for her to hear the rock hit bottom... Either that or a very quiet bird had swooped down and carried off the rock before it touched the ground. Somehow that didn't seem likely.
She frowned and wiped her right hand on her tunic before returning it to the rock face. She did wiped off her left hand quickly as well; her palms were getting sweaty, and the last thing she needed was to have them slip. Her feet were growing a bit moist as well, but she wouldn't be able to wipe those off... She'd simply have to hope that Jig brought someone back...
Hurry, Jig. She thought desperately, looking up at the sky she couldn't see.

Cat snarled as the dog began to throw himself against the door. Insolent wolf! It's a wonder that you catch the deer, as noisy and hysterical as you are. Cat gave a quick mayow to get that useless human of hers over to the door.
Grumbling, Sen slammed his knife in its sheath. He laced up his sandals and got to his feet, shuffling to the door and opening it. "All right, all right, what do you want?" he asked gruffly. He recognized Rikia's dog right off; the thing was hysterical, and it had seemed too violently loyal to Rikia to leave her alone without good reason. He sighed. "Greaaat. What mess did she get herself into?" he muttered. Sen grabbed a leather bag with enough provisions for a couple days, a large waterskin, and a walking stick that was practically standard issue to the goatherds. Finally he grabbed a woolen cloak and tucked a roll of bandages into his shirt. Cat leapt on his shoulder, and he stepped outside, closing the door behind him. "Right. I'm ready to go," he told the pup.

Jig was too frightened to correct the feline about him being a loyal guide dog, - He was no wolf!
When the human from that afternoon FINALLY came to the door, Jig was too hysterical to even hear what the man said. The only part that reached through his panicked state was the word 'Go'. GO! That was a command he knew! Rikia used that command when she wanted to walk somewhere!
He dashed off at once, barking frantically. He needed to get to Rikia! But wait... He had to make sure the strange human was coming as well! Jig paused and barked back at the human to 'hurry up!'.
~
Rikia winced as another sharp rock jabbed into the sole of her foot. She adjusted her foot's position carefully. How long had she been stuck down there? Was it twilight, or simply late afternoon?
A horrible thought came to her. What if it began to rain?! She'd never be able to keep her grip if water started to slick down the rock face! Oh, if only she could see the clouds...
