I spent about an hour yesterday making CC (compost castle). I've been procrastinating on this project for weeks now but the weather was perfect and I had nothing else to do. The bin is open faced and 4 ft square. It's tucked in a corner (where it is hidden by lilacs and a barberry) right next to my garden.

P.S It wasn't really intended to be made in the image of a castle, but the leftover half blocks needed to be put somewhere. [:

yay cinder blocks!

hmm this empty spot looks nice.

after some quick removal of sod and rough leveling of the ground, the foundation is laid.

I christen thee, CC. <3

Huh, that's a pretty neat little project, I might have to tell the others
By others I mean my school's environmental group, I'm the leader and founder of it and thus always searching for new ways to improve
This might help a great deal with our wildscape.

Cool smile

Since I'm currently living in an apartment, my compost is a worm bin on the back balcony. Now I just need to get some potted herbs to put on the porch railing, since one of my neighbors is already gardening in the tiny little patch of dirt ground out back.

cool. I'm not sure how having an open faced compost area will work in the city yet. I've already thought of using plywood sheets to cover it once it gets going and food scraps are mixed in with everything.

that's so cute. Our compost has one piece of wood as a barrier. It's not even a real barrier. But all we put there so far is leaves. I don't know what else I should put there... My gym teacher says certain foods aren't the best idea to compost. If they aren't local, then it's not natural for them to decompost in the area.

Well fruit peelings and egg shells would prolly work.

pretty much most vegetable (plant) matter can be added. Peelings, leftover bits, grass clippings, leaves, anything. Eggshells, bonemeal, dried blood, are some of the animal matter that can be added to compost along with seasoned manure.
