This is copied directly out of my LiveJournal, but I cut out a some... um, emphatic swearing. Haha.

I just read The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

I really thought I wouldn't like the plot, since it sounded far too sci-fi for me, despite the phrase I always hear attached to her stories - "sci-fi for the non sci-fi-iers! vampires for the vampire dislikers!" or whatever. In fact, I was rather bored the first fifty pages in. But even when I stopped reading, I still had this feeling when I was doing other things, like I wanted to go back to it... but perhaps that's because I'm book starved.

Anyway. Like, holy crap*. I have never read a book like that in my LIFE. Everything is just really original... the plot, the feeling of it, everything. And it's so interesting seeing the change in Wanderer, how she slowly seems to become more human. And just... ASFSADF. SO GOOD. It just makes you think, and... it was just... so good. (<--- first typed that as 'god' and seriously contemplated keeping it). I was laughing out loud more than once, and of COURSE giggling, and talking to the book when it got to certain moments that I got really excited..., and I actually CRIED (I rarely cry reading books... at least not actual tears), I became excited, suspenseful... everything.

I didn't see where things were going with a lot of it, though I usually guess pretty well for most books. So it was nice to be surprised.

The plot was just... sldkfj. The characters... I didn't think I could love them like I loved the Twilight characters. But I did, I do.

In fact, I think I like them and the book just... more than Twilight.

It was that freakin' sweet.

I really recommend anyone who hasn't bought it to go out and buy it ASAP! I don't think you will be disappointed. Even if all the creepy alien-ness may weird you out for the beginning of the book.

Even if you didn't like Twilight, you just might like this. :]

I have to totally agree with your review. I just finished the book not two minutes ago and it was a great read. I recommend it to everyone who has read the Twilight series and to others who haven't. I loved how Stephenie brought the characters to life, and I personally felt really bad for Wanderer. Everything about it was great. Just check it out and you won't be sorry.

I know! I finished it just the other night, and I couldn't tear myself away for a single second! I haven't been so attached to a book since the fifth installment of Harry Potter.

One thing I loved about it, the thing I love best about all of Mrs. Meyer's work, is that it was so emotionally involving. You feel the characters' pains and joys. I too was in tears.

Only problem I really had with it was the bit where Wanderer's about to go off herself, meets up with Jared in the dark, and ends up making out with him, only MINUTES after she confesses her undying love for Ian. WTF?

...still love it though. I say it's just as good, if not better(!) than the Twilight series. 3nodding
