One of my best friends just got mugged, after she came from having dinner at the mall, since her roommate went back home for the weekend and she was alone and didn't feel like cooking.
She went with another friend who didn't feel comfortable with her walking alone at night so he decided to go along. So after dinner, he was walking her home, walking right by one of the most crowded streets in the whole COUNTRY (there is ALWAYS a traffic jam there) when suddenly 2 guys in a motorcycle come, one of them jumps of, pulls out a knife and tells them to give him everything or they die. Of course, they handed over their wallets, they guy jumped back on the bike and ran off. But that's not the worse part. There was a whole line of cars (not moving) right beside them, and a whole bunch of onlookers and not a single damn person could move a finger to try and help them. What's even worse, NOBODY checked if they were alright or tried to help them after the whole thing.
I am very much aware that there are very few people who will interfere with a robbery when it's not affecting them directly, but come on! Couldn't they have made sure the 2 kids (they're both under 20) that just got robbed were alright? Specially if the thief had a knife?
It's times like these when I get so disgusted with humanity in general...

I see what you mean...I would have tried to help, but if I knew I couldn't stop the guy, then I would have tried to get a good idea of what he looked like and called the police. it's stuff like that makes me wish my parents would let me carry around a bowie knife or a big switchblade. that way I could feel somewhat safe. wait, where did this happen?

Oh, I don't live in the States, but it happened in one of the busiest business areas, right in front of a Mall, where there are always tons of people.
Yeah, when things like that happen I always start wondering if I should start learning martial arts or carrying some sort of self-defense weapon. confused

I don't think I'm buff enough to take on some guy with a knife when I don't have a weapon, so I doubt I would've been much help. xd I probably would have called the police though, or taken note of what kind of motorcycle they were riding and what the license plate number was. Maybe people didn't ask if they were okay because of the fact they were right beside them and could see that the guy with the knife didn't actually attack?
My boyfriend is super paranoid, so he buys me pocket knives all the time and gets ticked if I accidentally forget to take one with me. But there's something I've always wondered...A lot of people always tell girls to carry pepper spray in their purses. Where in the heck do you find pepper spray at? o.O
