She was lucky he did not go into attack mode, trained as a warrior as he was and all that. Truthfully, Hotohori was more angry at himself for being caught off guard like that. It was just friendly playing, like many of his housemates participated in -or simply DID. He however had never really done so. Even with his sisters it was training with Father & Nuriko, or reading with Makoto.

Hotohori sighed softly, the peace of the lake filling him. Much better. He breathed in fully, intending to turn and apologize to Eruanna for snapping at her so impolitely.

He did not get the chance.

At the sound of Eruanna moving he tried to twist another direction. Away would be nice. But he was already turning the other and in his haste -okay, panic- Hotohori felt his paws slipping on the damp foliage near the lake. He slipped for a moment as the female kitsu sailed through the air with her jump. He was just catching his footing once more & ready to give a sigh of relief when the wave from the cannonball reached him making the damp ground upon which he tried to stand wet.

Not to mention causing him to try to jump away to dodge it. Something which probably would have worked under other circumstances. But the warrior had not caught his mental balance since being physically forced out of the kitchen.

He slipped.

Limbs flailing, no sound uttered, Hotohori fell into the lake.

Eruanna drifted lazily under the water for a moment before kicking to the surface and turning to the shore to call Hotohori in. This time she didn't get a chance to say anything as her lightly colored eyes widened at the sight of him slipping and falling into the lake. That... wasn't... good.

With the swiftness of much practice she dove under the surface and kicked herself over to Hotohori, nudging him to the surface and back toward the more solid ground. "Are you all right, Ori?" For once her playfulness had abated. She was genuinely concerned. Play wasn't supposed to get people hurt. Or send them into a shocked tumble into a lake.

It was quite a bizarre feeling, being in the water before intending to be there. Not as odd as the slow motion second where he was neither on the ground nor in the water just before however. The shock of cool water jarred his senses. Although he might have panicked a little when his paws lost their perchance Hotohori did not panic now. He calmed, letting himself sink or float as his body would until he could determine which way was up and swim to the surface.

Then he felt it. Contact. Warmth. Pressure. Eruanna? Some part of his mind tried to rationalize and name. He shifted so his weight would not be a burden but did not hold onto her. He remembered that was dangerous to both rescuer & rescued. Reaching the top he broke surface and breathed in deeply but collectedly. Purplish hued front paws settled on the lakes edge and held him up. His ears flicked at Eruanna's question and in a moment he was looking at her. Gratitude for the save and her honest concern mixed with shame and embarrassment at having fallen in the first place. "Yes."

Hotohori offered her a slightly sheepish smile. "Much better now, thank you."

Eruanna breathed a sigh of relief and swished a paw in the water for a moment to make sure it would not be muddy before lifting it out of the water and batting at Hotohori's bangs in slow motion. "As long as you're all right."

She canted her head at him, soggy white hair sliding across her nose in the process. "You seemed a little off-balance but..." She frowned, a rather unusual expression for her. The look didn't seem to sit right on her face. "When's the last time you went out and did something just for the fun of it?"

He was not looking so missed until the last moment Eruanna's incoming paw, dodging a little but not quite enough. Hotohori could feel his bangs already shifting with the motion of her paw.

Then he was off balance. Eruanna? Frowning?? He was still pondering that when the question hit. Looking down and away the male would not meet Eruanna's gaze. He did not answer, other than to lift his shoulders and let them fall again. When had he? Had he ever? And if he had... what had he done? Training was not just fun, though Hotohori enjoyed it. A waste of time to bring that up though. Eruanna certainly would not consider that being something 'just done for fun' -and seeing as how he trained both to keep himself to standard and to be able to protect his mother, well even Hotohori could not accede to saying it was just fun. Not when it was useful too.

Well, if not else that proved both her own suspicions and lined up with the things she'd heard. And while, yes, she could understand training being fun from the way things looked Hotohori did not train because he enjoyed it, or least not simply for that reason. She was looking for something he did solely because he enjoyed it. Not something with strings and stress attached, no matter how me liked the reasons behind them.

The smile returned, though he didn't see it since he wasn't looking. Why did he line himself up for these things? "Raar!" She pounced at him, though it was all play and there was no real force behind it. She might wind up with her forepaws over his back but she was trying to make sure she didn't knock him in the lake again. "I am officially going to drag you out to go do something once in a while now." She stuck her tongue out at him.

His ears flicked at the warning roar... but frankly Hotohori was in no mood to dodge the wild female. He was still trying to think of something he might do only for fun. Everything he enjoyed... it had ulterior motives. Maybe motives was the wrong word, but the things he liked to do like training both with and without his sword as well as swimming had added benefits.

He huffed softly as he let his body sink to the ground beneath Eruanna's weight -which really was not much. Hotohori cringed the slightest bit at her pronouncement. "And that's supposed to make it fun?" He retorted, but not sharply. There was an odd almost stately elegance to it, as if Hotohori were asking her to rethink the logic of someone being dragged to do something for it to be fun. Then all of a sudden there was a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Legs that had bent to permit him to sink beneath her weight were coiled and ready. Ready to spring.

The twinkle the only warning Eruanna was given before the warrior leapt from the edge of the pool into the center -the intention of keeping her in tow.

Eruanna lifted her nose up in the air in mock indignation. "All right, I'll invite you then. Dragging you around would get tiring after a while, anyway. So would carrying you or trying to pull you around in a wagon..."

If there had been something else she might have added to that bout of silliness, it was rapidly lost in a suprised yelp as Hotohori leapt. With her weight resting half on him and her center of gravity focused right at his side there wasn't a whole lot she could do to avoid getting pulled along with him. He'd honestly suprised her this time.

She did at least have presense of mind enough to take a deep breath before she tumbled into the water, blinking her eyes open and waiting for bouyancy to direct as to which way was up. Just as she was starting to head for the surface again there was a flash of a tiny, scaly body... and then a most peculiar sensation at her left nostril. She broke the surface and immediately issued a loud sneeze and started rubbing at her nose with a paw. "A fish just tried to swim up my nose. Gaaaaaah!"

There was a strange feeling in Hotohori's belly & chest as he felt Eruanna come along as he had hoped into the water. He had to kick quickly to reach the surface before it exploded out of him. Laughter. Dark eyes crinkled with it as he watched to make sure Eruanna reached the surface as well. It would totally spoil the moment if the one time he actually did something fun & impulsive he hurt a friend. He looked to where the water churned and grinned to see her bob to the surface. The sneeze threw him off... and pawing at the water to stay afloat the warrior gave her a funny look as she rubbed her nose.

Then broke out into unrestrained & uncontrolled laughter.

"Lucky... it didn't... succeed!!!!" The male hooted, bobbing above and below the surface of the water. Splashing water into his own mouth Hotohori coughed and choked a bit but he was all right and did not seem able to stop laughing yet.

Eruanna's ears perked up at Hotohori's laughter and she gave him a slightly startled look for a moment before a grin once more lit across her face and she joined in the laughter. Swimming and laughing this hard were suprisingly difficult to manage at the same time. It took a moment before she was able to choke it back enough to speak again. "Careful, 'Ori! One might decide to jump in your mouth and go exploring there next!"

She chuckled for a moment before playfully splashing some water at him with a paw. She didn't want to cheapen the moment or make it akward by saying anything, but she was proud of him. Maybe there was some hope for him after all. Hee.

"Better than my nose." He retorted with a grimace and a snicker, shifting onto his back some to splash water back at her. "Besides... I could use a snack anyway."

Hotohori gave a playful chomp as he lunged at the female, quite likely intending to dunk her beneath the water. He did however, keep his still smiling mouth mostly closed.
