Raven Blackbird:
“Nevermore”

Sometimes referred to as the Nevermore Wizard by the inhabitants of the hidden city, Raven Blackbird is a practicing wizard who owns a quaint magic shop right near Doors End. Which is rightfully named as it is a dead end street lined with different doors all crammed up next to each other. Raven's shop window reads lam-Nevermore Magic-ings. The “lam” and “ings” in faded letters as the shop used to be lamps and furnishings and Raven grew tired of trying to scrub the letters off after a failed attempt at using magic to clear them off the window. This actually lead the window to be lightly askew on one side and leaving the window panes slightly different colors. One is particularly interesting because if you look through it you actually see the old lamp shop. He's never figured that one out, but the kids in the neighborhood find it quite amusing, so no harm done.

Speaking of the kids in the city, one may assume I am speaking about humans but, not so. All of the inhabitants, excluding Raven, are actually animals. These animals, however, are far from normal and are capable of human speech, walking on two legs if it so fit them, writing, reading, running shops, playing games, going to school, basically the same caliber as humans, sometimes more so depending on the human.

This is actually due to the sorted past of the hidden city. This particular city has no proper name, as it was never discovered country, it was created. Created by a very powerful but reclusive wizard named Mortimer. There are some of his manuscripts available at the library for the towns people to read, but many people who read them seem to read different stories. So no one knows for sure what is true or not relating to Mortimer's past. However, this much is true, the wizard created the city for himself eon's ago to escape a world he felt had failed him. It started as just one house for himself, but he started building on that. Streets, shops, gardens... it seemed like the wizard got possessed with creating the town for himself. It seems no one else but the wizard lived in the town while he was live, and he died alone. The center of the town is his burial place. The animals created it for him when they were able to. You see, the hidden city was infused with magic. After the wizard was gone, some of his magic started to fade and animals were able to get into the hidden city and they made their homes in the town. After a few generations changes began to take place within the animals: higher consciousness, enhanced emotions, they found the ability to read, write, and speak. The wizard had provided a town full with potential for these new species. And this was the short history of the town.

All the power left by the wizard is what drew Raven to his current residence. He was searching for a great power and felt the presence of the town beyond a rift in the old world. He set up shop in the town and hasn't left since.

Today was interesting. While I was shaving, Intus came barging into the bathroom with crayons flying everywhere. He shoved a really disturbing picture in my face and had the craziest grin on his face. All I could do was stare. There is something wrong with that boy, and I shudder as to what exactly it might be. He still doesn't talk much, except for those times that he seems almost possessed. Maybe he has an underdeveloped brain, or down syndrome? At least he was having fun though.

Apparently those weren't crayons, but my expensive charcoals. There's no place to get them inside the city. I'll have to venture into the outerworld to replenish my supply. I'll also be spending the rest of the day cleaning the mess Intus is leaving where ever he is drawing. And fixing the table and book self that I destroyed after finding out he had wasted my supplies. Today is no longer interesting.

Intus woke up in the middle of the night and sat outside in the rain till the morning when I found him. He was just sitting there staring off into space next to the cabbages and the carrots that never grew in the small vegetable garden near the house. When I went over to him he just turned his head really slowly towards me, blinked and smiled. He then seemed to snap out of his trance and started crying a bit about being cold and wet. I felt relieved when he started to cry, he was more like himself. I dragged him inside and drew a bath for him to warm him up. Hopefully this won't happen often otherwise he's going to catch pneumonia.
