(As it's pretty obvious by the subject I'm not going into detail. xP Anyone can feel free to critique or just post your own thoughts/opinions on it. ^^ I thought I'd make it interesting without using names for at least the first one.)

She turned the corner in a flurry of emotions, least of them any kind of pleasant. She should've been out with everyone else, celebrating and having fun. Partying was the last thing on any of her lists. So she'd made some stupid excuse about not feeling up to it and left it at it. Actually she'd flat out told them she had better things to do and didn't need their immaturity anywhere near her.

....okay, maybe that last part was just in her mind. But she really would have liked to say it. Not that it would have gotten her anywhere. Instead she'd just ended up skipping out and checking out the rest of the town. It didn't matter where as long as she didn't see any of them. Running into "them" was the last thing on her plan.

Scratch that, running into HIM was. She stopped in shock staring at the huddled figure in front of her. He was hunched over the table seeming to be mumbling to himself. She froze in place, heart beating frantically. Maybe coming out on her own wasn't such a smart plan. When he didn't even look up at her, much less have the wall come down on her, she began to wonder if it was going to be worse. But still he didn't seem to awknowledge her, too absorbed into his thoughts.

Finally, she decided to make what could be her last stupid mistake in life. Taking a step closer she cleared her throat loudly, knowing it was a horrible idea. The figure immediately jerked up looking back curiously, eyes widening when he saw her. Still no loud screaming or alarms or anything out of the ordinary, although what was going on was actually more unusual. Instead he stared at her quietly.

"You." She surprised herself by not yelling or even raising her voice. He just shrugged, like he was anyone else.

"I wouldn't expect to see someone like you in a place like this."

She had to raise her eyebrows at that comment from him. "That almost sounds like a really stupid pick up line".

His eyes hardened, glaring at her, before slowly shifting into a faint smile, "Yeah, I guess it kinda does." The smile dropped with a sigh, "Not one that works though, trust me."

"Yeah, guess you would know." She wasn't sure whether to turn and run or what to do. But part of her just wanted to edge over and talk. It wasn't very often he was that civilized to anyone especially her.

He looked over at her curiously, "Cheesy or not, you still didn't answer the question." She shrugged, "No where else to go I guess, and this place looked....mildly inviting." She scrunched up her face as she looked around.

He chuckled, "That almost sounded believable. Seriously, lost your way?"

She shook her head and found herself sitting in the stool next to him, "Nah. Just didn't feel much like partying I guess. And definitely not in a social mood."

"So you decided to come and hang out with the losers then."

She looked at him in surprise, "I didn't say that- Hey, why are you here? Shouldn't you be out plotting my demise or something?"

"Yeah, well that's not going to well either. Let's just say dealing with you woman deserves the occasional much needed break. Besides, after my last plan fell through, I'm feeling kind of empty on ideas. Not to mention my lack of help. Thought maybe I could find some lackeys in this....dump."

She frowned looking away, "Yeah, well "women" isn't so much the issue right now. Not entirely. I just didn't feel like a girl's night out tonight I guess."

"And you and your lover boy aren't having a pleasant date right now because?"

Her eyes darkened, "I don't think he could care less about me right now. He's got better things to do."

He glanced down at her, "Somehow I highly doubt that."

"No. Your wrong as always. There's definitely someone else on his mind right now, and it's not who you'd expect. Not what anyone would."

He tilted his head curiously, "Try me." She took a deep breath wondering how to eloquently put it. "Let's just say "fate" had a different plan. And apparently I can't compete with that."

He stared at her in confusion before eyes widened in complete shock, "No way! I never would have thought Ninja boy swang that way!" She stared at him unable to hide all her emotions in her eyes and he sat back down, "Sorry, I just never saw that coming." She nodded, "Yeah. No one did."

"So what was their reactions?"

She bit her lips before answering truthfully almost in a whisper, "...they don't know. I wasn't sure how to say it. They're too absorbed in themselves to even realize it. I mean, it's so obvious that I don't know how they could miss it.... He's been so distant and hasn't even looked my way for days, and when their together it's almost like they're sharing an inside joke. Except I don't think they're blushing in embarrassment when they do. He won't even talk to me and eagerly rushes off to do things with him and-" She looked down nervously, "I...I didn't realize I was rambling, sorry. I just couldn't stop once I got started and-"

He had to chuckle softly, "Sorry, it's just to weird to think about." She frowned at him, "It's disturbing and upsetting is what it is. Like you would know. It's not like you have any competition."

It was his turn to sigh, "I'm not entirely sure about that. I think just about anything is more acceptable than me."

"Yeah, well it's not just you. She leaves all this messes behind and everyone else has to clean up after her, while she's just busy making even more. Enough is enough doesn't mean anything."

He stared at her in surprise, "I wouldn't have expected you to ever say anything like that." She half-smiled, "Yeah, well I'm upset and rambling, who knows what's going to come out. Just feel free to ignore it all." He smiled back, "I'll be sure to do that."

Several hours later, they were still in the same place. "And then it's like, we'll just see how much WORSE the situation can get! They don't even seem to catch on that it ALWAYS gets worse!!!"

He shook his head, "Lackeys just seem to want to make it even worse than that. And then romance always has to get in the way. I've lost enough good henchmen that way."

She rolled her eyes, "Pssh, romance is so overrated. You give and give for someone....and they're too busy giving back to someone else!"

"Or to just about everyone but you!"

She shook her head and hands, "But oh no, you're just overreacting and there's never any need to be jealous! No matter what the evidence points at. GAH!" She shook her head again, this time in a calmer fashion. "Men and women. Romance and friendship. One's just as stressful as the other, good or evil."

He nodded thoughtfully, "Yeah...." She looked up in surprise as he chuckled softly, "What's so damn funny?" He smiled shaking his head, "Just this whole thing. If anyone ever said I'd be sitting here with you discussing all this, I'd have told them they were dead drunk."

She chuckled as well, "Yeah, same here. But if you ever bring this up or try anything like it again, I will kill you."

He nodded, "Same here. But it was still different."

"Yeah, nice to have an uncomplicated chat for once. And without any accusations or overreacting in it." She was cut off by the sound of her phone and sighed as she answered, "Yeah? Well, what did you do? And you already tried that? Fine, I'll be there in a bit. Don't do anything else, please."

She hung up slipping the phone back into her jacket, "She would crumble to dust if I wasn't there to hold her hand every five minutes." Looking up at the silence that followed, she realized the seat was vacant, let out another sigh and shook her head.

"She's right. He is just a big jerk."

Taking a long swig of the glass in front of me I glanced across the room. It was always the same crowd here, hanging out and doing whatever. Not my crowd, never had been, never would be. Not that I would ever want it to be.

I don't know why I come here. It's just a habit, whenever I'm in town, to make another trip out to this lame scene. I'm probably one of the few here who aren't floating in alcohol by time they leave. This is what the newest generation has been reduced to. Staying in here worrying about how social they are, completely unaware of the warfare outside that will end up determining their fate.

Of course that fate is in the hands of several females. Therefore they're all doomed anyways.

I stood up, ready to leave when something told me to look back, stopping me in my tracks. What was she doing here? This was definitely not a place for any of them to be hanging out. Nor would I ever expect to see them. Then again I shouldn't have been here either. And with how often I would sneak out to enjoy this time, I wasn't about to compromise my situation.

Oh, well. That is why I was at a masquerade party after all. And apparently she had planned it as well, wearing her own dark long skirts. This alone is what kept me from running out. Why was she dressed like she had intended to come out here? I know her boyfriend wouldn't have liked it. And he was nowhere to be seen.

In fact, no one was. Not even the loud giggling girls. She had came here completely on her own. Perhaps looking for a quiet solitary evening? Not likely. And she definitely wouldn't find it here. I should have just left and continued on my way. But for some reason I couldn't just leave her here. I picked up my own mask with a sigh and slipped it on. At least she wasn't one of the ones obsessed with the Phantom of the Opera, or I would probably never be leaving here.

By time I was able to really see what she was wearing, she was already sitting at a table looking mildly nervous and anxious. Was she possibly waiting for someone? Perhaps some dark lover to sweep her off her feet? None of that seemed possible, but then I realized what she was really doing. Those nervous glances were checking to make sure no one saw her. Then she definitely had snuck out without telling anyone. Strange, she's not the one I would have expected to do that.

A finely dressed man strode up to her. I was too far away to hear what was being said, but I'm fairly sure he was attempting to use his charm. Never a good sign here. Strangely it seemed to bother me. That a strange man would show up and try to take advantage of an innocently dressed princess. It didn't occur to me how much closer I had moved until I realized she was right in front of me. Although I was still hidden, she looked back almost as though she could see me. Then she turned back to the drink her "companion" had offered her. At least she was smart enough not to take it. Harmless wasn't very common here.

It was when he took her hand and gently led her across the floor that I knew I couldn't stay hidden any longer. Hopefully she would be smart enough to stay silent. They both turned in surprise when I cleared my throat. No turning back now. Thankfully the mask kept me a mystery.

"Sorry, I'm late. I ran into a bit of traffic earlier. This place was hard to find."

I almost let out a sigh of relief as I saw understanding in her eyes. She'd play along. Otherwise I didn't know what to do.

She smiled back, "Oh, it's fine. I was starting to think you wouldn't show." Her companion looked back and forth between us, suspision on his face before finally taking a step back, "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't-"

I waved politely, "It's fine. Thank you for keeping my date company." He merely nodded as I led her back to the table and sat down. Now, what to say.

She spoke first thankfully, "Th...thank you." I felt a smile of my own as I nodded, "You really shouldn't be in a place like this. It's not to friendly."

Her frown wasn't so grateful, "I can take care of myself just fine thank you." Not surprised, those women were to damned independent at times. A soft sigh escaped her lips, "But thank you still."

"Just be careful." I couldn't keep from staring at her. Her hair was neatly piled in messy curls, looking both fancy and yet not overdone. She'd definitely dressed for the evening. Even the make up was generously applied. For whatever reason she'd done it, she'd taken on a new identity for the night. Her eyes seemed to shine more though. More than I'd ever noticed. Had they always been this shade? It had to have just been the dress. Had to. She actually looked more human than feline in the first time in a while. Almost like any other rare beautiful girls running around without any knowledge of the unknown in the world.

Suspiscion was also in those same eyes, "Do...I know you, from somewhere?"

I gently smiled, "Not unless you're a regular here." She blushed faintly looking away, "No, I can't say that I am."

I chuckled softly, "Good. I'd hate to think that all beauty was wasting its time in here." I'd never seen her this red before. Then again, I'd never really been like this myself. It was like just seeing her had changed me for one night.

"I...I should probably go. I guess I don't belong here."

I nodded as I chastely kissed her hand, "No, you don't. You should be out there where you still have a life and future to look forward to."

She smiled, a real true smile as she stood up, "Thank you again. Maybe I'll see you around sometime."

I nodded as she started to leave, disappearing when she turned around, confusion at my last statement for the night:

"Always. Always, my Queen..."
