(As it's pretty obvious by the subject I'm not going into detail. xP Anyone can feel free to critique or just post your own thoughts/opinions on it. ^^ I thought I'd make it interesting without using names for at least the first one.)
She turned the corner in a flurry of emotions, least of them any kind of pleasant. She should've been out with everyone else, celebrating and having fun. Partying was the last thing on any of her lists. So she'd made some stupid excuse about not feeling up to it and left it at it. Actually she'd flat out told them she had better things to do and didn't need their immaturity anywhere near her.
....okay, maybe that last part was just in her mind. But she really would have liked to say it. Not that it would have gotten her anywhere. Instead she'd just ended up skipping out and checking out the rest of the town. It didn't matter where as long as she didn't see any of them. Running into "them" was the last thing on her plan.
Scratch that, running into HIM was. She stopped in shock staring at the huddled figure in front of her. He was hunched over the table seeming to be mumbling to himself. She froze in place, heart beating frantically. Maybe coming out on her own wasn't such a smart plan. When he didn't even look up at her, much less have the wall come down on her, she began to wonder if it was going to be worse. But still he didn't seem to awknowledge her, too absorbed into his thoughts.
Finally, she decided to make what could be her last stupid mistake in life. Taking a step closer she cleared her throat loudly, knowing it was a horrible idea. The figure immediately jerked up looking back curiously, eyes widening when he saw her. Still no loud screaming or alarms or anything out of the ordinary, although what was going on was actually more unusual. Instead he stared at her quietly.
"You." She surprised herself by not yelling or even raising her voice. He just shrugged, like he was anyone else.
"I wouldn't expect to see someone like you in a place like this."
She had to raise her eyebrows at that comment from him. "That almost sounds like a really stupid pick up line".
His eyes hardened, glaring at her, before slowly shifting into a faint smile, "Yeah, I guess it kinda does." The smile dropped with a sigh, "Not one that works though, trust me."
"Yeah, guess you would know." She wasn't sure whether to turn and run or what to do. But part of her just wanted to edge over and talk. It wasn't very often he was that civilized to anyone especially her.
He looked over at her curiously, "Cheesy or not, you still didn't answer the question." She shrugged, "No where else to go I guess, and this place looked....mildly inviting." She scrunched up her face as she looked around.
He chuckled, "That almost sounded believable. Seriously, lost your way?"
She shook her head and found herself sitting in the stool next to him, "Nah. Just didn't feel much like partying I guess. And definitely not in a social mood."
"So you decided to come and hang out with the losers then."
She looked at him in surprise, "I didn't say that- Hey, why are you here? Shouldn't you be out plotting my demise or something?"
"Yeah, well that's not going to well either. Let's just say dealing with you woman deserves the occasional much needed break. Besides, after my last plan fell through, I'm feeling kind of empty on ideas. Not to mention my lack of help. Thought maybe I could find some lackeys in this....dump."
She frowned looking away, "Yeah, well "women" isn't so much the issue right now. Not entirely. I just didn't feel like a girl's night out tonight I guess."
"And you and your lover boy aren't having a pleasant date right now because?"
Her eyes darkened, "I don't think he could care less about me right now. He's got better things to do."
He glanced down at her, "Somehow I highly doubt that."
"No. Your wrong as always. There's definitely someone else on his mind right now, and it's not who you'd expect. Not what anyone would."
He tilted his head curiously, "Try me." She took a deep breath wondering how to eloquently put it. "Let's just say "fate" had a different plan. And apparently I can't compete with that."
He stared at her in confusion before eyes widened in complete shock, "No way! I never would have thought Ninja boy swang that way!" She stared at him unable to hide all her emotions in her eyes and he sat back down, "Sorry, I just never saw that coming." She nodded, "Yeah. No one did."
"So what was their reactions?"
She bit her lips before answering truthfully almost in a whisper, "...they don't know. I wasn't sure how to say it. They're too absorbed in themselves to even realize it. I mean, it's so obvious that I don't know how they could miss it.... He's been so distant and hasn't even looked my way for days, and when their together it's almost like they're sharing an inside joke. Except I don't think they're blushing in embarrassment when they do. He won't even talk to me and eagerly rushes off to do things with him and-" She looked down nervously, "I...I didn't realize I was rambling, sorry. I just couldn't stop once I got started and-"
He had to chuckle softly, "Sorry, it's just to weird to think about." She frowned at him, "It's disturbing and upsetting is what it is. Like you would know. It's not like you have any competition."
It was his turn to sigh, "I'm not entirely sure about that. I think just about anything is more acceptable than me."
"Yeah, well it's not just you. She leaves all this messes behind and everyone else has to clean up after her, while she's just busy making even more. Enough is enough doesn't mean anything."
He stared at her in surprise, "I wouldn't have expected you to ever say anything like that." She half-smiled, "Yeah, well I'm upset and rambling, who knows what's going to come out. Just feel free to ignore it all." He smiled back, "I'll be sure to do that."
Several hours later, they were still in the same place. "And then it's like, we'll just see how much WORSE the situation can get! They don't even seem to catch on that it ALWAYS gets worse!!!"
He shook his head, "Lackeys just seem to want to make it even worse than that. And then romance always has to get in the way. I've lost enough good henchmen that way."
She rolled her eyes, "Pssh, romance is so overrated. You give and give for someone....and they're too busy giving back to someone else!"
"Or to just about everyone but you!"
She shook her head and hands, "But oh no, you're just overreacting and there's never any need to be jealous! No matter what the evidence points at. GAH!" She shook her head again, this time in a calmer fashion. "Men and women. Romance and friendship. One's just as stressful as the other, good or evil."
He nodded thoughtfully, "Yeah...." She looked up in surprise as he chuckled softly, "What's so damn funny?" He smiled shaking his head, "Just this whole thing. If anyone ever said I'd be sitting here with you discussing all this, I'd have told them they were dead drunk."
She chuckled as well, "Yeah, same here. But if you ever bring this up or try anything like it again, I will kill you."
He nodded, "Same here. But it was still different."
"Yeah, nice to have an uncomplicated chat for once. And without any accusations or overreacting in it." She was cut off by the sound of her phone and sighed as she answered, "Yeah? Well, what did you do? And you already tried that? Fine, I'll be there in a bit. Don't do anything else, please."
She hung up slipping the phone back into her jacket, "She would crumble to dust if I wasn't there to hold her hand every five minutes." Looking up at the silence that followed, she realized the seat was vacant, let out another sigh and shook her head.
"She's right. He is just a big jerk."
