Though I think a direct adaptation makes "noob" a technically correct term, I think "newb" is more likely closer.

Yeah, sure, it's well within reason, but to be fair you should be warned about this trend.

On that note, I'm about to post a thread with links to PDFs that should help you do something stupid...or genious.

I'm promoting the non-lazy way. I know a few people who seem to be legitimately in contact with something like a teacher or mentor of the non-corpereal (not manifested in the physical type of existance) variety. Though the relationships range from disatisfied teacher due to one-track mindness of the student, to virtually completely ignored student from a less then commited teacher.

I don't think any of them have gone and 'found' a teacher, the stories seem to be more of the 'the teacher found me/came to me/et cetera' variety. I can think of a number of 'teacher' archtypes and things, but I think for summoning something, most people would be well past where...well, where you seem to be.

That said and done, if you're going to find some way to do it the lazy way (which doesn't seem likely to attract the best options of 'teachers') I'd suggest you learn:
-Sheilding, casting 'circles'(three dimensional), and how to make wards.
-Banishing and invoking energy (usually part of circle work).
-Grounding and drawing in energy, directing energy, and sensing energy.
-For summoning, you may want to learn about a black mirror, summoning triangle, general ettiquete for addressing respective beings, offerings, and semantics.
-And whatever people do to 'test' if somethings honest/what it says it is.
-How you can be tricked.

Then you can go on to try to learn about alternatives and what other people do or feel is necessary and unnecessary, and pick and choose what you want/like. I can think of several things of little necessity I listed for me personally, but it's in the interest of being over-prepared. Or you know, you could just try to find a teacher archtype god (Odin maybe...anyone who does the knowledge giving thing) and hopefully develope a connection so they can help your natural learning abilities.

Also try looking up 'horror stories', theirs enough that it seems unlikely everyones lying.

Man, I look at it like this:

- You're looking for a mentor to help you figure out how to use this cool new ability that just randomly manifested. Good on ya, no problem with wanting to learn.

- You're asking if it's a good idea to just randomly attempt to summon some otherworldly entity to teach you. Yeeeeeah, I have a problem there.

That's practically *asking* for something nasty to poke its head in, tell you they're a really advanced angelic spirit of peace and harmony, teach you how to completely bollocks yourself, and then either giggle as you unravel mentally or else take over and take you for a joyride around the neighborhood.

If you really want to follow that route, *definitely* do a lot of preparatory research, and [this is important, kids] don't forget the salt. And it's gotta be kosher, mind, not just table salt. Good to have on hand for all kinds of contingencies. Also attracts deer and seasons food nicely.

Quite frankly, by the time you have all your preliminary research done, you'll probably have a decent understanding of what it is you can do without having had the benefit of a mentor.
