Student Information [Historical/Mental/Emotional]:
Historical Family: Though most of the tribe is loosely [and sometimes by blood] considered his family, he was raised primarily by his grandmother, Cherokee Kreery, his father's mother who was very strict, but extremely loving. He would do anything for his grandmother. His father has plenty of other children with other women, which is not a big deal and Canaan doesn't associate with them as more than friends and distant relatives. His mother, half-irish, left the Reservation when he was three to live with her non-native family, and he hasn't heard from her since. This also isn't something out of the ordinary, and plenty of other kids are missing one or both parents, as well.
Culture: Growing up on a Reservation has fostered deep respect for elders and tradition, respect for hands-on, hard work, for nature, and for spirits. It has also fostered distrust of outsiders. Cane isn't very educated, and doesn't put much value on school work, either. His people have quite a few legends and traditions that he's not going to be very willing to talk about. [Plot later, perhaps?]
Mental
Apptitude: Placing extremely high in IQ and apptitude tests, there is no denying that Canaan is naturally very intelligent. When it comes to machines and in a related sense, mathematics, he intuitively understands the rules governing it. This isn't to say he doesn't have a lot to learn, but that he has the capacity to be amazing in such fields. However, his lack of literary skills and knowledge of social rules is near appalling. Such things will have to be taught to the boy.
Schoolwork: Other than the tests given by the US Government upon rounding up the children who were delinquents from school, Canaan has done no official schoolwork. He has, however, attended a sort of tribal elementary school and can read at a somewhat advanced level. This is also due to reading manuals and texts on mechanical repairs. Cane has extremely sloppy handwriting, bad spelling, and has trouble pronouncing words and reading aloud, though his comprehension is excellent.
Skills and Talents: Primary: Canaan is a mechanical genius. He's far more familiar with automotive and household repairs, but it seems that most mechanical things he turns his hands to go well. This isn't a skill that's completely natural, he supplements it with training at the Reservation's main autoshop, where he apprentices, and also with textbooks and manuals, supplied by the shop owner. Secondary: Cane has extremely good intuition, fostered by close ties with the supernatural/spirit and natural world. This is nothing like ESP, but more along the lines of making character judgments about others and making good choices.
SSoS: Canaan, although very spiritual due to his native upbringing, will mainly be interested in any path that will allow him to work with mechanics and build/repair things. This is his passion. Therefore, he will probably be going into the Technology Division of the School of S&T.
Emotional
Personality: Some would call Canaan grumpy, in the sense that he's not a chatty-cathy, not very flamboyant, and is often not smiling. If at all possible, he responds with one-word answers or grunts, and prefers to listen rather than speak. However, those that know him are quick to point out that he's an extremely hard worker, intelligent, honest, and very dependable. Cane is somewhat reserved and suspicious of most people, especially those with paler complexions, and is also quick to react physically to confrontation. However, he has a good heart, and is someone to go to if a person needs a hand. Loyal.
[test done by answering questions ICly] ISTJ: The Examiner: "ISTJs are responsible, loyal and hard working. They have an acute sense of right and wrong and work hard at preserving established norms and traditions. Because of their deep sense of duty they are dedicated to everything they do and are very dependable. ISTJs care deeply for those closest to them."
"ISTJs are very loyal, faithful, and dependable. They place great importance on honesty and integrity. They are "good citizens" who can be depended on to do the right thing for their families and communities. While they generally take things very seriously, they also usually have an offbeat sense of humor and can be a lot of fun - especially at family or work-related gatherings."
Feelings about the War: Cane's feelings are torn on the subject, as many of the adults in the school's feelings probably are. He wasn't even born when the Celestites first made contact and came to earth, but as he got older and tourists and scientists gawked at the 'aliens,' Canaan's grandmother, whom cared for him, as well as most of the more traditional members of the tribe, refused to go and participate. They felt that the white government was simply disenfranchising and abusing yet another non-white population. Imprisoning something they didn't understand, as they did with Native Americans in the past.
Because of this, when he was two [almost three], Norman Prinwaltz began to speak out. As he grew up, he became slightly in awe of the man, as he was the first Caucasian Cane had seen his grandmother in support of. They watched his speeches on TV and she ranted about the injustice of the assassinations and imprisonment.
Nine years old, and yet another tragedy came upon the planet. Of course, unlike most people who associated with Thanksgiving positively, it wasn't the best day for Native Americans. Luckily, the Aliens didn't attack the Reservation, due to low population numbers and lack of political strength. It would've been a waste of time and resources.
At first, he and most of the Reservation felt vindicated. It was about time the government got what was coming to them for poking and prodding. For enslaving. Still, it soon came out that those aliens were being abused and manipulated yet again.
Canaan's grandmother began to rant about the civil war, and white people using black people, whom they considered less intelligent, as meat shields. This, she preached, was exactly the same.
At the news of the school being created as he turned ten then eleven, his grandmother was in full support. Defend humanity, kill the oppressive aliens, help the oppressed. Of course, she didn't sign him up, that would be unbelievable. She did often comment on how he was perfect, and if the government knew what was good for them, they would take 'her boy'.
Still, she cried when he left, filling Canaan with a purpose. This was his duty.
Feelings about the School: Cane has never gone to an educational institution in his life, and was discovered by officials on a 'investigation' into the Reservation, looking for kids that'd been abused, or allowed to not attend school, which is illegal.
One official truly dedicated to helping Native Americans noticed his talents and apparent intelligence, and alerted the Shinkami School of Saviors, applying for the boy. Upon notification of his acceptance, Canaan will be torn. He's never been off the reservation voluntarily for more than a few days, and all of his family is there. He's also very distrustful of governments, institutions, and Caucasians, as he's been raised to be. However, the boy has a hunger for knowledge, and is secretly excited to be going to school. While most of the tribe doesn't approve, his grandmother does, as she's a fan of Norman Prinwaltz, and is proud of her grandson for getting into such an important school.

Sample
Canaan was behind the small, beat-up house, laid out under the body of his uncle's old truck, when the white men came. They came the front way, instead of sneaking up like they'd often done in years past, and Grandmother Cherokee had seen them coming down the long dirt road ten minutes prior. She had brought out an cool pitcher of tea and three glasses, setting the tray on a the small table. Now she sat in her rocking chair on the rickity front porch, appearing completely relaxed as she crocheted.
She wasn't. Her home was one of the most remote in the entire reservation, but she often went with Canaan to the small 'center' of things, where they got goods and he made arrangements to repair things for mostly barter rather than cash. Grandmother Cherokee had heard of the recent raids, of children once again being separated from parents. It wasn't as bad as when she was a little girl, when they would simply give the native child to white parents. No, it was still illegal to do that, thank the spirits.
Instead, they temporarily took them away, if you wouldn't sign a contract to put them in school. She scowled. Canaan didn't need such infantile things. The children in those schools were soft, useless.
Her frown disappeared as three men exited a black and shiny state vehicle, the two younger men in police uniform sweating profusely. The older man they flanked was in a loose, white button-up and seemed relatively cool, a cap on his head. She knew him. Thomas McGreggor. A good, honest man. One of the few white men and government officials that had a good reputation with the tribe.
Pouring tea slowly into the glasses, she ignored the two uncomfortable young men, concentrating on McGreggor himself. "Thom," She gestured to the wicker chair beside her. "Sit, have a drink." The tall man accepted the beverage but didn't sit. The furrow between her brows deepened slightly.
"I'm sorry t'say I'm here on business, Miss Cherokee." He shook his head, his dark brown hair only just beginning to grey. "Y'know why I've brought th'boys." He gestured to the stiffs behind him, who were staring longingly at the tea Cherokee and Thom both drank. "We don' want any trouble, ma'am."
Her chuckle was throaty and she waved one bony hand at him. "Trouble? From little ol' Miss Cherokee?"
Thom's look was measured, but slightly amused. "I know yer handy with a gun, ma'am," The laughter disappeared as his brown eyes shifted suddenly. "But I wasn' rightly talkin' about you."
She didn't need to look to know that Canaan had heard the voices. The strong teen had come in the back door of the house and exited the front, a heavy wrench in his left hand and a dark look on his face.
One of the uniforms behind McGreggor stepped forward quickly, but the older man stopped him with a hand. "Now, now, let's settle this'un like civilized sorts, ya'll." His eyes met Cane's. "Boy, you've known fer years we were gonna have t'come fer ya. You got a few more'n most, due to th'war. You 'n yer grandmama know I don' wanna do this."
Canaan's hand tightened around the wrench, his muscles tight, ready. He didn't want to leave the old woman. They were all each other had and he was as loyal as a dog. "Grandmother?" If she said the word...
Cherokee's blue eyes met McGreggor's open, brown gaze. "Miss Cherokee, nothing bad'll happen to your boy. I wrote personally to a special school. Remember that'un in the news? They'll take 'im. He's got talent, we all know it. Don' let it waste here, ma'am."
The silence was long and tense, and when Grandmother Cherokee spoke, her face was guarded. "Let th' boy finish his tea."
---
McGreggor would come back to take Canaan early the next morning, sending him to the first school he would ever enroll in.
Shinkami School of Saviors.

Three things:
First, we're currently in the year 2022. I know it's confusing. X3; I only mention this because it says Cane was 10 during the war (2015), which would make him 17 now (and thus too old to enter Shinkami).
Second, wow. WOW. I really adore this concept! From his quirks and his flaws, he seems like a GREAT character with so much room to learn, grow and improve. A stellar idea of what I am looking for in a concept. He is unique, not epic, and has a great foundation for everything he has become/learned.
Third, RP SAMPLE. Once the age thing is fixed and I can read over your sample, you will have my approval.

AHH *smacks head* okay, I thought it was still 2021! Haha, *fixes* He's born late in the year, so although he'd be turning 16 by the END of the school year, he'd still be able to be accepted at 15.
Thank you SO much! Cane is very dear to me. He sprung full grown, actually, into my head last week, as a thirty year old, and this was a fun excercise, wondering what he'd be like as a boy. Plus, I know a lot about Reservations and I've never seen that type of character played, really. I'm working on the sample now, however, it probably won't be up until tomorrow, as I've got to head to work shortly.

Some tiny things, first, how is Cain able to learn Math/mechanical things in the first place when he didn't even have any formal education? Mechanical science can be very difficult and pretty advanced, even in schools.
Two, I'm unsure on Cain's literature skills. Just trying to figure it out, I guess. You say his literature skill's awful (appaling), but he can read at an advanced level, and has good comprehension skills? It seems a little contradictory, since I'd consider reading and comprehension a major part of the literature skills too. Or Maybe I just understood.
Third...how can Cain understand anything about races and discrimination when he was two? You said he looked up to Norman when he was that age, and I just think it's a little unrealistic, considering most children at two can barely reason.

The math/mechanics really isn't that difficult. You don't need formal education for that, hence trade schools and just watching and learning. It takes time, and it takes practice, and it takes dedication. I know quite a few people that could do amazing things to your car, but have no idea what 'irony' means. He is completely backwards when it comes to literature. By that, I mean grammar, classics, storytelling, etc. However, because he is familiar with technical terms, about numbers, car parts, and such, he reads those manuals quite well.
I'm sure that Cane could spit out quite impressive technical terms, but not understand you if you told him he was 'taciturn'. 8D His comprehension and reading is in a very specific 'genre'. Literature stumps him, manuals do not. His comprehension is also good because he has a habit of skipping over words he doesn't understand, and getting their meaning from the other words in the passage. A favorite tactic of those with small vocabularies. ;D [I've actually done research on pretty much every aspect of Canaan. I know mechanics from the nearby reservation that have these types of skills]
As for the third thing... That's simply an error. If you noticed Chrys' comments, I had to change his date of birth several times, so originally, his age was older in the history. That's just me overlooking something, so I'll change it once I post this message. It's a simple sentence swap around, since he doesn't actually look up to Norman, he's simply impressed by his grandmother's feelings. *edits paragraph*
8D THANK YOU FOR READING/COMMENTING!

I'm not feeling too comfortable about the mechanical part still, but I suppose, if it's just basic mechanics (like tinkering) then it's fine. Just...nothing like fixing cars and stuff. XP
if there's no other concerns, I'm just going to approve this. Just keep what I said in mind.

I can outline his current skills a little more if you'd like. If you gave Cane a beat down, non-operating vehicle, he couldn't fix it without help. However, he's good under guidance. He's worked in the shop as an assistant, and can do basic things on his own. Oil changes, wheel rotations, replacing fluids, minor dents and scratches [easily, easily fixed] and so on. He can also probably figure out what the problem with the car might be. However, he's young, and can't do heavy work by himself.
If he was entering the school as an 18 year old, with how much time he'd have spent in the shop, I'd say, yes, he could indeed fix your car. he can't do complicated things, because he doesn't know the mathematics necessary. However, he has had hands-on teaching and can do simple things.
What I mean to say is, Cane is someone with natural talent and amazing potential. He can become an amazing mechanical technician, but he isn't one yet. :3
I'm simply explaining so we can both feel at ease. ;D Canaan won't be running around fixing other kid's scooters and stuff willy-nilly, fixing mechanical things in the school randomly or anything else. No god-moddy things for my boy, no worries.
Thank you so much for the approval. <3
